In welcome news for fans of the comedian, Nikki Glaser has officially been named as the host of the 2026 Golden Globes, following her acclaimed stint at this year’s ceremony. The awards body announced that Glaser will once again take on hosting duties for the 83rd edition of the star-studded television and film awards, which is scheduled for January of next year and will air on CBS and Paramount Plus.

It will see the comedian — known for her infamous roasting skills of celebrities like Tom Brady — make history yet again, since the 2025 Golden Globes marked the first ceremony ever hosted by a solo woman.

Glaser took to social media to celebrate the news of her return, sharing a promotional poster for next year’s ceremony with the caption “Round 2!”. Meanwhile, in a press release announcing the news, Glaser said “hosting the Golden Globes this year was without a doubt the most fun I have ever had in my career,” before name-dropping a TV series that’s sure to dominate next year’s ceremony. “I can’t wait to do it again, and this time in front of the team from The White Lotus who will finally recognize my talent and cast me in Season Four as a Scandinavian Pilates instructor with a shadowy past.”

According to Deadline, Glaser’s return to the Golden Globes stage will also come with a (well-deserved) pay rise, following her speculated $400,000 payday for her debut stint as host this year. Better yet, it’s believed Glaser signed a three-year deal to host the Golden Globes, so she can expect an even bigger check come 2027. Glaser’s payment for the gig was the source of much chatter earlier this year, so it’s nice to know she might be earning as much as her male (and in some cases, much worse) counterparts.

It’s fitting that the promotional poster for Glaser’s Golden Globes return sees her wearing boxing gloves, since her 2025 monologue was littered with hilarious jabs. In addition to calling the ceremony “Ozempic’s biggest night,” Glaser also took a swipe at Joker: Folie à Deux’s complete lack of nominations, Stanley Tucci’s side-hustle as an internet cook, and the pronunciation of Timothée Chalamet’s name, with a little help from Adam Sandler.

Clearly chuffed with her performance (duh, they invited her back), Golden Globes President Helen Hoehne said Glaser “brought a refreshing spark and fearless wit” to this year’s ceremony, adding that her “sharp humor and bold presence set the tone for an unforgettable night, making the ceremony feel vibrant and most of all fun.” Fans were equally thrilled about news of Glaser’s return, with one X saying the comedian “deserves it” and another adding that “it only makes sense” for her to reenter the Golden Globes stage.

Other buzzy moments from this year’s ceremony included the awkward exchange between The Rock and Vin Diesel, Sofia Vergara’s heckling of Jodie Foster’s acceptance speech, and Andrew Garfield being… well, Andrew Garfield. Alongside her hosting gig, Glaser just wrapped up her stand-up tour The Good Girl and is now on her Alive and Unwell tour.

Oscars 2025 recap: ‘Anora’ wins big as Adrien Brody takes home his second Oscar and 3 other actors nab their first https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/events/oscars-2025-live-updates/ https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/events/oscars-2025-live-updates/#respond Mon, 03 Mar 2025 05:21:05 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/?p=1838835 It was also an epic night for the 'Dune' sandworm, if we're being honest. ]]>

The 2025 Oscars have come and gone, and the 97th annual ceremony was nothing if not memorable. In a year that finds us literally needing Andrew Garfield to stand on televised stages donning dark-rimmed glasses (thank you, Andrew), we are grateful to have gotten just that ⏤ and so much more.

The big winner of the night was Anora, which took home an impressive five Oscars including Best Picture, Best Actress (Mikey Madison), Best Director (Sean Baker), Best Original Screenplay (Sean Baker), and Best Editing (Sean Baker). It was basically a fabulous night to be Sean Baker, but if your name was Adrien Brody, Zoe Saldaña, or Kieran Culkin, you made out pretty well yourself. Brody took home his second Best Actor Oscar for The Brutalist while Saldaña and Culkin ed Madison in taking home their first (for Emilia Perez and A Real Pain, respectively).

It was also a tremendous night to be a Wicked fan, and not just because of the special performance we got from dazzling leads Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. The blockbuster movie musical ended up winning two awards ⏤ Best Production Design and Best Costume Design ⏤ the latter of which made Paul Tazewell the first Black man to win an Oscar in that category. Netflix’s Emilia Perez, which led the night with 13 nominations, took home gold for Best Original Song (“El Mal”) and Saldaña’s performance in the Best ing Actress category. Controversial Best Actress nominee Karla Sofia Gascón was in attendance at the event after recently missing both the SAGs and the Critics Choice Awards, making the Oscars her first major award show appearance in months.

The ceremony also marked Conan O’Brien’s first time hosting the event, but hopefully not his last. Other notable firsts included Timmy Chalamet getting more love in the show’s first 25 minutes than some people get in their entire lifetimes and Flow winning Best Animated Feature Film, marking the first time Latvia has ever won an Oscar. Audiences were also treated to Nick Offerman providing the off-stage narration we never knew we needed (and hope to get again, especially anytime Amy Poehler presents an award). One of the more jaw-dropping moments of the night (besides Cynthia Erivo singing “Defying Gravity” live, let’s be real) came during a special segment celebrating James Bond. Introduced by Halle Berry in a stunning custom Christian Siriano, the ensuing medley featured performances by BLACKPINK’s Lisa, Doja Cat, and Raye, with a seductive cameo from Margaret Qualley (who might need to be in the next film).

Of course, as much as there was to celebrate, there was also plenty to mourn, like the recent ing of Gene Hackman and Jon M. Chu’s missing Best Director nomination. The “In Memoriam” segment was particularly emotional this year as we once again said goodbye to the likes of Maggie Smith, Shelley Duvall, Teri Garr, Donald Sutherland, and James Earl Jones, to name a few. On the bright side, presenter Mick Jagger received a standing ovation simply for existing and it appeared that Elton John could clearly see him, so that was a win! We were also exposed to a harp-playing sandworm, something I don’t think was on anyone’s Oscar bingo card, and now that Dune: Part Two has taken home awards for Best Visual Effects and Best Sound, I might have to finally see it.

Here is the complete list of Oscar winners, followed by some of the best-dressed humans you ever did see.

And the Oscar goes to…

 • Best Picture: Anora
 • Best Actor: Adrien Brody, The Brutalist
 • Best Actress: Mikey Madison, Anora
 • Best ing Actor: Kieran Culkin, A Real Pain

And the award for Best Dressed goes to…

The Oscars Red Carpet was a sight to behold, and some of the lewks served by our favorite celebs knocked us absolutely flat. First things first ⏤ can we talk about Ariana Grande being an absolute vision in Schiaparelli spring couture?!

Best Actress nominee Fernanda Torres looked glorious in black and told E! that her dream role would be to star in a remake of Young Frankenstein. Can this happen immediately? Please and thanks.

OKAY WHOOPI WE SEE YOU. Christian Siriano literally said that if he could only dress one person for the rest of his career, it would be Whoop. It’s hard to argue when this is the end result.

Cynthia Erivo came wrapped in a bow like the literal gift she is, and it gave queen of the ball.

Our hearts stopped when we saw that Joe Locke and Kit Connor were in the house!

Songwriting legend Diane Warren was also in attendance and looked fabulous as always. (Did anyone catch her MasterClass documentary?! What an incredible career she’s had.)

Wicked star Marissa Bode naturally gave ruby slipper.

And then we spied with our little eyes a sneaky White Lotus star-on-the-rise!

Zoe Saldaña showed up looking like this and said her next dream is to pick up her kids from school for the rest of the year, causing us to melt like a certain Wizard of Oz character.

Make way for the royalty, people!

Not Selena Gomez literally shining in champagne.

Demi Moore is already being rumored to go down in Oscars history for this *moment*.

And then Timmy Chalamet gave straight-up Laffy Taffy! (I can’t.)

Don’t even get me started on my husband. A vision in caramel.

Despite Hulu’s small stroke at the broadcast’s outset (which left over 34K people in pitch-black streaming darkness), the night ran about as smoothly as one could go. Yes, thankfully, there were no La La Land mixups to give viewers or attendees a collective heart attack. Instead, there was a diverse display of cinematic love, with the wealth being spread amongst many of the night’s nominees, most notably Anora. It was a great night for the nominated films, and now that they’ve gradually begun making their ways to streaming, you finally have a chance to catch up on all the ones you missed while you were busy stressing out about $25 eggs and, oh yeah, America’s impending collapse.

Whenever the Oscars swing around, one of the quieter questions is whether the ceremony will go off without a hitch or not. This year’s ceremony has been chugging along pretty smoothly — complete with Conan O’Brien’s apparent new beef with the entire country of Estonia — but it might need to do a better job of vetting its distributors next time.

Indeed, at approximately 4:24 P.M. PST (per Variety), Hulu — famously billed to be streaming this year’s Oscars — suffered a widespread technical problem that left at least 34,000 s in the literal and proverbial dark.

Fifteen minutes, later, the platform’s X tweeted “Having issues logging in? If so – we’re on it! Our team is actively investigating, and we hope to have things back up and running soon,” while also advising affected s to restart the app and keep an eye out for updates.

At approximately 5:48 P.M. PST, the Hulu brain trust has reportedly found the problem and since corrected it. The damage, however, was already done for many.

Indeed, the ceremony kicked off with the highly anticipated and about as inevitable reunion of Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, the two nominated leading ladies of Wicked who honored their newfound Oz roots with their already-legendary vocal chords.

Suffice to say there were a lot of Hulu s/Wicked fans who were none too pleased about missing their personalized highlight of the night on of one of what might be the most poorly timed technical error in streaming history.

Luckily for them, there was still plenty of Wicked to go around, even if the night didn’t shake out quite as successfully as they hoped. Jon M. Chu’s beloved adaptation of the hit fantasy musical was up for 10 awards — picking up wins for Best Costume Design and Best Production Design, but losing out on Best Visual Effects (Dune: Part Two), Best Sound (Dune: Part Two), Best Original Score (The Brutalist), Best Actress (Mikey Madison, Anora), Best ing Actress (Zoe Saldaña, Emilia Pérez), Best Film Editing (Anora), Best Makeup and Hairstyling (The Substance), and Best Picture (Anora).

Ariana Grande changed out of her ‘lampshade’ dress to honor Dorothy for Oscars performance, and thank goodness she did https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/events/ariana-grande-changed-out-of-her-lampshade-dress-to-honor-dorothy-for-oscars-performance-and-thank-goodness-she-did/ https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/events/ariana-grande-changed-out-of-her-lampshade-dress-to-honor-dorothy-for-oscars-performance-and-thank-goodness-she-did/#respond Mon, 03 Mar 2025 02:13:40 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/?p=1838962 Grande's tear-inducing Oscars opening made up for any red carpet losses. ]]>

Ariana Grande fans are losing their minds over her opening performance at the Academy Awards, not least because it allowed her to change out of *that* red carpet dress.

In case you missed it, the pop star and actress turned heads with her Schiaparelli dress during the pre-awards festivities at this year’s Oscars, but not in the way she might’ve hoped. The sculpted frock featured an outurned corset that allowed the tulle skirt to cascade to the floor, which for some fans was instantly reminiscent of a lampshade.

“It’s giving lampshade,” one onlooker wrote of Grande, with another noting that while the actress “will look stunning in just about anything,” the dress nonetheless “looked like a lampshade let’s not kid ourselves.” Thankfully, any goodwill lost from Grande’s red carpet dress was quickly recuperated moments later, when she appeared on stage to open the Oscars ceremony with a duet with Cynthia Erivo

The stars, who are both nominated for their respective roles in Wicked, delivered a goosebumps-inducing rendition of The Wizard of Oz classics. For her part, Grande busted out a performance of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”, while Erivo sang “Home”, which is lifted from The Wiz — another Broadway rendition of The Wizard of Oz. The pair finished off the tribute opening with a t performance of “Defying Gravity,” which had been escapable from this writer’s brain for basically the last three months.

While Grande’s unmatched vocals caught the most attention, that was not to be outdone by her dress, which channelled major Dorothy vibes in a seeming ode to the character’s ruby slippers. Hammering the tribute home, the back of Grande’s dress even featured a slipper sculpture, sending our collective excitement about Wicked: For Good into the stratosphere. “Ariana Grande changed out of her lampshade and into Dorothy’s left slipper,” one fan surmised, with another adding that the singer” sounds so ethereal.”

Another quipped that Grande “defines elegance,” with a fourth declaring it “a stunning performance.” Sadly, “Defying Gravity” was not nominated for Best Original Song (since it was lifted from Wicked’s broadway show and so is not technically “original”), but it did score a whopping 10 nominations across multiple categories. At the time of writing, Wicked already collected a win for Paul Tazewell for Best Costume Design, making Oscars history as the first time a Black man has received the award. It also won the award for Best Production Design, with Nathan Crowley and Lee Sandales accepting the honor.

Grande was up for Best ing Actress alongside Monica Barbaro, Felicity Jones, Erzsébet Tóth, Isabella Rossellini, Zoe Saldaña. Saldaña, who was the frontrunner, unsurprisingly came out on top for Emilia Pérez. In the other acting categories, it was Kieran Culkin who collected the Best ing Actor gong for A Real Pain — which is coincidentally the three words I used to describe the moments after Grande exited the Oscars stage. Thankfully, we’ll see her again when Wicked: For Good hits cinemas in November of this year.

Oh, we also might see her in A24’s Jennifer Lawrence-starring murder mystery based on The Real Housewives, which is a sentence I’ll never tire of reading. In the meantime, I’m off to rewatch Grande and Erivo’s Oscars opening performance and see whether there’s any more tears left to cry in my tear ducts.

Locks have been few and far between this awards season. The Brutalist, Emilia Pérez, and Conclave have all vied for the frontrunner position at different points in time, Mikey Madison and Demi Moore have tangoed in the Best Actress pool over these last few months, and Timothée Chalamet’s SAG Award win the other night has shaken up the Best Actor race significantly.

But among the exciting ebb and flow, we’ve been able to count on one man for pure, unadulterated consistency, and that’s Kieran Culkin. He got the Golden Globe, he got the BAFTA, he got the SAG Award, he got the Critics’ Choice Award, and now — as the wolves foretold — A Real Pain has landed Culkin a Best ing Actor Oscar.

The award marks Culkin’s first-ever Academy Award nomination and now win. The Home Alone alumnus is no stranger to this part of showbiz, as he was famously one of the leading men in Jesse Armstrong’s Emmy juggernaut Succession, but the last time he was nominated by a major awards body for his work in a feature film was in 2003’s Igby Goes Down.

The latest Best ing Actor winner was up against Yura Borisov (Anora), Edward Norton (A Complete Unknown), Guy Pearce (The Brutalist), and Culkin’s former Succession co-star Jeremy Strong (The Apprentice).

Also representing A Real Pain at this Oscars ceremony is Jesse Eisenberg, who’s nominated for Best Writing (Original Screenplay). That script is up against Sean Baker’s Anora, Brady Corbet’s and Mona Fastvold’s The Brutalist, Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance, and September 5‘s writing team of Moritz Binder, Tim Fehlbaum, and Alex David.

The film stars Eisenberg and Culkin as David and Benji Kaplan, two cousins who reunite on a heritage tour through Poland in honor of their late grandmother. The pair are quite the odd couple — David being painfully anxious, Benji being explosively charismatic — but their conflicting personalities are just one part of an equation consisting of family drama, a gutting tragedy, and the history of one of the most horrific evils staring them in the face. Together, the pair reckon with pain of all shapes, sizes, and relevancies, and in their pain, a much-needed cousinly love rears its head, too.

To call Culkin’s work as Benji “masterful” is equal parts redundant and understated — a sweeping of the major awards shows is one thing, but it’s quite another to watch Culkin bring his singular, lovably smarmy thunder to Benji in the film itself. It’s a manic performance full of the energy we’re used to seeing from the actor, but there’s a vulnerability that takes precedence here that subsequently splits off into sweetness and a devastating sorrow.

Indeed, it’s a gut punch of a turn that only Culkin could have crafted, and to see it honored in this way is sure to be one of the finest justices of the whole night, to say nothing of the always-guaranteed, delightfully unhinged speeches that Culkin has become famous for over this last little while.

The ‘La La Land’ Oscars mix-up, ed https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/events/what-happened-at-the-2017-oscars/ https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/events/what-happened-at-the-2017-oscars/#respond Fri, 28 Feb 2025 18:07:44 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/?p=1441607 It was possibly the biggest error in Academy Award history.]]>

Mistakes are commonplace in cinema, but when mistakes happen in real life — on the biggest night in cinema, no less — it goes down in history as one of the biggest blunders ever. Of course, we’re talking about the Oscars, which has seemingly become a controversial night, especially when the biggest mistakes — including jaw-dropping slaps across the face — take place in the blink of an eye.

That being said, one major mistake took place at the 89th Academy Awards, when screen legends Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway announced the Best Picture winner in one of the most bizarre and unfathomable moments in Oscars history. And while Beatty and Dunaway are considered living legends, the problem was certainly not the fact that the duo were presenting. Instead, the only problem was that they were given the wrong card.

So with the 2025 Oscars swiftly approaching, let’s travel back in time and keep our fingers crossed that history doesn’t repeat itself this year.

The incident at the 2017 Oscars, explained

As Beatty attempted to announce the winner for Best Picture, the world-renowned actor looked confused, then turned to his Bonnie and Clyde co-star Dunaway for assistance. Without skipping a beat, she read off La La Land. It was really no surprise. The musical comedy, starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, was nominated for a whopping 14 Oscars and had already won six during the night, so they were heavily favored to win.

But their joy was short-lived — by two minutes and 30 seconds — as the cast and crew gathered on stage to make their speeches, the kerfuffle on stage made it obvious something was amiss. That’s when La La Land producer Fred Berger concluded his speech with, “We lost, by the way.” As Beatty started to clarify what happened, producer Jordan Horowitz interjected:

“Guys, I’m sorry, no. There’s a mistake. Moonlight, you guys won Best Picture. This is not a joke.”

While the audience was stunned, the cast and crew of Moonlight were in disbelief. But the big question is — who dropped the ball? Beatty clarified that he was originally confused because the card he was given said, “Emma Stone, La La Land.” It seems Stone’s Best Actress card was given to Beatty and Dunaway instead of the card for Best Picture

The La La Land cast and crew graciously presented the award to Moonlight, with Horowitz saying he would be proud to hand the award to his friends from Moonlight. As Beatty made his clarification, in case anyone was pointing the blame at him, Horowitz could be seen hugging the director and producers of Moonlight, before presenting the award to producer Jeremy Kleiner.

PricewaterhouseCoopers, the ing firm that counts the votes and determines the winners beforehand, took the blame for the error. ant Brian Cullinan accidentally handed the Best Actress envelope to Beatty and Dunaway by mistake. There are two copies of each envelope just in case something goes wrong, which is how there was another Best Actress card at play. PricewaterhouseCoopers have since established additional protocols to ensure an error like that doesn’t happen again.

Flash forward to now, and both Stone and Gosling have gone on to spearhead a variety of respective projects, with Barbie nabbing Gosling an Academy Award nomination for Best ing Actor last year as Stone now gears up for Bugonia. So while the mishap was undoubtedly embarrassing for all involved, it’s refreshing to know that the cast of La La Land took it on the chin and never harbored any sour grapes.

The Oscars is that one night of the year where Hollywood pats itself on the back for being, well, Hollywood.

They’re not always about recognizing the absolute best. The Oscars are as much about politics, timing, and who’s “due” for an award as they are about pure talent. It’s why we’ve seen incredible performances snubbed (sorry, Glenn Close), and others awarded more for career recognition than the actual film. Still, when someone wins more than once, it’s impossible not to take notice.

Actress with the Most Oscar Wins

While everyone’s busy throwing their bets behind their favorites, the real reigning queen of the Oscars remains…not Meryl (though she’s close), not Daniel Day-Lewis, not Jack Nicholson. Nope, it’s Katharine Hepburn. With four wins for Best Actress, she’s the most decorated actor in the history of the Oscars. And she did it all while thumbing her nose at Hollywood conventions, blazing her own trail, and — get this — never showing up to accept a single one of her awards. Iconic doesn’t even begin to cover it. She only appeared at the Oscars once, in 1974, to present the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award to producer Lawrence Weingarten.

Hepburn’s first win came in 1934, for Morning Glory. She played Eva Lovelace, a small-town girl with big Broadway dreams, and she brought an edge to the character that audiences weren’t used to seeing. Eva was ambitious, cunning, and flawed. And the Academy noticed. At just 26 years old, Hepburn became an Oscar winner, solidifying her status as one of the brightest young stars.

By the late 1930s, Hepburn’s career hit a wall. A combination of underperforming films and her fiercely independent reputation earned her the label of “box office poison.” To put it bluntly, Hollywood didn’t know what to do with a woman who wouldn’t play by its rules. But Katharine Hepburn wasn’t about to fade into obscurity. She staged one of the greatest comebacks in film history with The Philadelphia Story in 1940. While this performance didn’t win her an Oscar, it re-established her as a leading lady — and, more importantly, as a power player. She even had the foresight to buy the rights to the play and essentially sell herself as part of the package to MGM.

In the 1960s, Hepburn was back to being Hollywood royalty. Her second Oscar win came for Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner in 1968. The film tackled the still-controversial topic of interracial marriage in America, with Hepburn playing Christina Drayton, a liberal mother grappling with her daughter’s engagement to a Black man. It was a timely, bold film, and Hepburn’s performance was the emotional anchor holding it all together.

Just one year later, Hepburn delivered another Oscar-winning performance in The Lion in Winter (1969). This time, she played Eleanor of Aquitaine, a razor-sharp queen in a medieval power struggle with her husband, King Henry II (played by Peter O’Toole). The role demanded a commanding presence, and Hepburn delivered in spades. What’s remarkable about this win is that it tied her with Barbra Streisand (Funny Girl) — something that’s only happened a handful of times in Oscar history.

And then there’s On Golden Pond (1982), her fourth and final Oscar win, which came nearly 50 years after her first. By this point, Hepburn was in her seventies, but she was still every bit as captivating as she’d been in her youth. Ultimately, Hepburn proved that women actresses could be compelling and complex

The 31st Screen Actors Guild Awards has officially come to a close, which means the whispers and rumblings continue to heat up as we draw closer and closer to the Oscars.

The award show saw Timothée Chalamet deliver a heartfelt speech about leaving a long-lasting legacy of greatness as he accepted the SAG for his portrayal as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, with Oscars buzz immediately surrounding him and others in the Best Actor category. Demi Moore also won in her respective category for The Substance, while Kieran Culkin nabbed a ing role SAG statue and Colin Farrell stole our hearts over within the television landscape. Oh, and let’s not forget Shōgun unsurprisingly dominating, with Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai both taking home gold.

And now that the ceremony has ended, it is the perfect time to learn more about what we just watched. To start, who exactly gets to vote for these immensely talented people?

How are SAG Awards decided?

Jane Fonda accepts Lifetime Achievement Award at SAG Awards
Image via Netflix

As alluded to by Oppenheimer‘s Cillian Murphy in his 2024 acceptance speech for the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role award, anyone who has full union hip in SAG-AFTRA may cast their votes for the SAG Awards. In other words, the SAG Awards is a ceremony where actors honor actors.

To break it down even further, the nominees are decided by a randomly selected committee numbering 4,200 union (2,100 for television and 2,100 for film) each year. These nominees can then, of course, be voted for by the SAG-AFTRA union , and whoever gets the most votes in their category wins the award.

Okay, so maybe that last bit was a given, but there’s nothing wrong with having all your bases covered. And we do, in fact, got ’em covered.

This year’s Grammy Awards show ‘will carry a renewed sense of purpose’ says Recording Academy CEO https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/events/this-years-grammy-awards-show-will-carry-a-renewed-sense-of-purpose-says-recording-academy-ceo/ https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/events/this-years-grammy-awards-show-will-carry-a-renewed-sense-of-purpose-says-recording-academy-ceo/#respond Sun, 02 Feb 2025 21:08:14 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/?p=1830384 The show will air as planned on Feb. 2.]]>

The 2025 Grammy Awards will carry on as scheduled this year, but with a “renewed sense of purpose,” said Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr.

The Recording Academy announced in January that the awards will still be held on Sunday, February 2, at the Crypto.com Arena despite the devastating fires experienced last month by many in Los Angeles.

The Academy also confirmed the MusiCares Persons of The Year Charity Gala honoring the Grateful Dead will still happen on January 31, and both the Special Merit Awards Ceremony & Grammys Nominees Reception and Clive Davis’ and the Recording Academy’s Pre-Grammy Fundraising Event will take place on February 1.

“Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles. This city is our home, and we mourn the loss of life and destruction that have come to it in recent days,” Mason explained in a statement.

“In close coordination with local authorities to ensure public safety and responsible use of area resources, the 67th Grammy Awards telecast on CBS on Feb. 2 will proceed as planned. This year’s show, however, will carry a renewed sense of purpose: raising additional funds to wildfire relief efforts and honoring the bravery and dedication of first responders who risk their lives to protect ours,” the statement continued.

“In challenging times, music has the power to heal, comfort, and unite like nothing else. The Grammys will not only honor the artistry and achievements of our music community but also serve as a platform to amplify the spirit of resilience that defines this great city of Los Angeles.”

The news comes despite the fact that several organizations and companies canceled their Grammys-related events.

When do the Grammy Awards come on?

The 2025 Grammys will take place on Feb. 2, 5 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. ET. The Grammys will air live on CBS and can be streamed on Paramount+ with Showtime.

Performers at the Grammys include Benson Boone, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, Charli xcx, Doechii, RAYE, Sabrina Carpenter, Shakira, and Teddy Swims.

The awards show will also include an appearance from Taylor Swift, who will as a presenter for the first time.

‘The main event’: Taylor Swift is doing something she hasn’t done ‘in 10 years’ at the Grammys on Sunday https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/celebrities/the-main-event-taylor-swift-is-doing-something-she-hasnt-done-in-10-years-at-the-grammys-on-sunday/ https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/celebrities/the-main-event-taylor-swift-is-doing-something-she-hasnt-done-in-10-years-at-the-grammys-on-sunday/#respond Fri, 31 Jan 2025 14:52:34 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/?p=1830082 People already know what they'll be tuning in to see.]]>

The 67th Annual Grammy Awards is shaping up to be a truly special occasion, because not only is Taylor Swift attending for her numerous Tortured Poets Department nominations, but she’ll also be doing something she hasn’t done in the show for a decade.

Now that the Eras Tour is finally over, having become the highest-grossing concert in history, you mostly glimpse Taylor’s name these days in the context of her beau Travis Kelce’s football matches, where she plays the role of dazzling spectator and team sweetheart. But even disregarding all those gatekeepers who say Taylor’s presence steals the spotlight away from the actual sport (only to be shut by the real experts, who see the value of the Chiefs games being turned into star-studded events), it’s been a while since we saw Taylor in her element last. That is, it’s been a while by Swift’s own standards, who doesn’t seem to be able to go a few months without absolutely dominating the charts and reminding everyone why her fans jokingly refer to her as the music industry.

Unfortunately for Swifties, a new album is nowhere in sight, but that will hardly stop them from singing Taylor’s praises in two days when the 67th Grammys is held in Los Angeles. The record-breaking singer has just been announced as the first presenter for the main awards ceremony, a feat she previously performed a decade ago in 2015.

As you might have expected, the fandom is already calling this the main event, and I can’t quite blame them.

Some wonder if Taylor will finally unveil reputation (Taylor’s Version) at the event. Swifties have patiently awaited it for months, even if Taylor is content to let the anticipation simmer. Whenever there’s the tiniest hint that the remastered version of reputation will see the light of day, the fandom goes into overdrive, only to be disappointed, a cycle they amusingly refer to as “clowning.”

Swift has been known to drop bombshells at award ceremonies (e.g. the Midnights announcement at the 2022 VMAs or The Tortured Poets Department during the 2024 Grammys), so it’s not entirely unreasonable to assume that the same could happen at the 67th Grammys on Sunday, though you should probably expect it if she ends up winning any trophies. Who are we kidding? When she wins a trophy.

Taylor has been nominated in six categories this year: Best Music Video, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year (all for “Fortnight” ft. Post Malone) as well as Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year (for The Tortured Poets Department) and lastly, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Us” in collaboration with Gracie Adams.

Swift broke a record by becoming the first female artist to earn seven nominations for Album of the Year. Throughout her career, she has been nominated a total of 58 times for a Grammy, winning 14 and becoming one of the most celebrated singers in history, a number that’s bound to only increase in a few days when she bags even more trophies for the acclaimed Tortured Poets Department.
