Like any stand-up comedian, Ali Wong has peppered her routine with anecdotes, specifically from her marriage. Her Netflix specials were so filled with stories about her husband it shocked fans when she announced her divorce.

Wong told Vanity Fair that she was taken aback by how much the internet was invested in her marital status, but that would be nothing compared to who she would be romantically involved with next. If there is one thing that is guaranteed to set the internet aflame, it is two beloved comedians coming together.

For a time, the Beef star kept her new suitor under wraps but eventually revealed that he was none other than SNL alum and impression genius, Bill Hader. This pairing simply makes sense, at least in retrospect. At the time of their courtship, Wong told Vanity Fair that she wasn’t fully committed when the prospect of the pairing first came to her attention. She and Hader had met casually in the past and he asked a mutual friend for her number before making his intentions clear.

“Hey, Ali. I just happened to hear the news of your divorce today, and I gotta tell you…I’m excited.”

Hader went on to elaborate that he had a crush on her for a long time and was interested in pursuing a relationship. Wong recalled flying to Europe and finding a surprise when she got there. Hader had sent her a bouquet of flowers and then ed her on her trip. Wong read this as the romantic gesture it was intended as, but not everyone had that reaction. While her female friends swooned at the idea of a man going above and beyond, the same could not be said for her male friends.

“They were like, ‘That dude sounds like a psychopath.’ That’s how cheap and lazy men have become — that now when a fellow man commits any act of kindness, any romantic gesture, it must be a symptom of an undiagnosed mental illness.”

Hader’s gesture won her over and she has once again been taken off the market. But that shouldn’t stop fans from enjoying her newest Netflix special, aptly titled “Single Lady.”

Ali Wong is living her best life in her comedy special

Now streaming on Netflix, “Single Lady” explores Wong’s debauched lifestyle following her divorce. The Netflix comedian still keeps things close to the vest and doesn’t divulge why her marriage ended, but does use many other anecdotes in “Single Lady.”

“I really believe that 40 is the golden age… to get divorced. It is perfect.”

While she isn’t single any longer, the special covers her sexual exploits following the dissolution of her marriage. She explains that now that she’s in her 40s, there is much more crossover in age groups for dating opportunities. She has gone as low as 25 and as high as 60.

Wong also doesn’t name Hader by name, but the comedian later itted that one of their dates was mined for stand-up material. Wong alludes to him by describing a man who could not tell the difference between a rice bowl and a teacup. Clearly not a deal breaker, Wong also explained that she prefers divorced dads in the special because they are used to getting yelled at. Viewers can watch “Single Lady” and catch all the clues of this relationship on Netflix.

The 10 best comedians on Netflix, ranked https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/netflix/best-comedians-on-netflix-ranked/ https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/netflix/best-comedians-on-netflix-ranked/#respond Mon, 13 May 2024 12:50:01 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/?p=1694045 They say laughter is the best medicine, and these Netflix comedy specials prove just that.]]>

Oftentimes, amid the gradually increasing madness of the world there’s nothing more necessary than a well-deserved laugh.

Between jaw-dropping revelations out of Washington, exploitative tell-all interviews with troubled new celebrities, and whatever the heck Marjorie Taylor Greene is up to, stand-up comedy provides the ultimate tonic to quiet all the noise.

In recent years, Netflix has become the go-to destination for comedy specials, providing a stage for everyone from comics just getting their start to bonafide household names. Given that Netflix has an excess of choice (did we really need another Kissing Booth?), it can be tricky to decide which comedian to tune into at the end of a long day.

Since we don’t want to subject you to yet another bout of doom-scrolling, we’re taking out the guesswork with our ranked list of the ten best comedians on Netflix.

10. Hasan Minhaj: Homecoming King (2017)

Working mostly on of Hasan Minhaj’s expert storytelling, Homecoming King sees the comedian and The Daily Show castmate unpack his childhood, with hilarious tales of his experience growing up in an Indian American Muslim family.

While there are plenty of jokes to enjoy — including a particularly hysterical prom story — the special remains compelling even when the punchlines are sparse. In 2018, Homecoming King was honoured with a Peabody Award, and it was undoubtedly the best special to drop on Netflix that year.

9. Jenny Slate: Stage Fright (2019)

Before she was fired from Saturday Night Live after accidentally dropping the F-bomb, Jenny Slate was an awkward high schooler and haunted house survivor. The comedian and actress recounts these stories and more in Stage Fright, a debut special that puts her idiosyncratic voices and maniacal mannerisms on full display.

The world might not have known too much about Slate prior to Stage Fright, but the special — which includes documentary footage — rightfully puts her center stage.

8. John Mulaney: Kid Gorgeous at Radio City (2018)

Pair an iconic venue with an even more iconic comedian and you get John Mulaney’s Kid Gorgeous at Radio City, an expansive stand-up set that documents the comedian’s childhood, days as a writer at SNL, and college life. Like always, it’s Mulaney’s attention to detail which provides most of the laughs, with something as universal as a school assembly being dissected for all its hilarious worth. It’s no wonder this special won an Emmy Award in 2018.

7. Tig Notaro: Happy to Be Here (2018)

Solidifying her status as the undeniable master of deadpan, Tig Notaro’s Happy To Be Here is a showcase of everything we love about the comedian, finding her at her happiest and most optimistic to date. Notaro’s jokes around her own celebrity status and the quirks of Hollywood remain gloriously self-effacing, but her joyful tales of marriage and parenthood display an observational wit we hadn’t quite seen before.

The final 15 minutes are a particular stand-up, as Notaro launches an extended game of potentially inviting her favorite band, The Indigo Girls, on stage. You’ll have to tune in to see if that happens.

6. Nick Kroll: Little Big Boy (2022)

Master of voices and Big Mouth creator Nick Kroll shares his origin story in Little Big Boy, a stand-up special that sketches new contours of his comedic identity. It was his first stand-up set in over a decade, and it features all those demonic and hilarious impressions that fans of his voice work could hope for. Among others, Kroll impersonates his mother, father, a 4-year-old child, and an exaggerated version of himself. Oh, there’s also stories about diarrhea and the many inopportune places it can arrive.

5. Joel Kim Booster: Psychosexual (2022)

Joel Kim Booster’s rising star power is undoubtedly well-deserved, and his 2022 special Psychosexual is the proof. The Fire Island writer and star immediately commands the room and creates a tangible rapport with the audience.

The audience participation — which even comes to include stories about, shall we say, *alone time* — isn’t the only thing that sets Psychosexual apart. Booster’s energetic delivery and masterful crowd work more than warrant a place on your watchlist.

4. Ali Wong: Baby Cobra (2016)

Before her scene-stealing role in Beef, Ali Wong was a bonafide stand-up superstar, with her debut Netflix special Baby Cobra arriving on the cusp of her breakout success. It marked the first time in history that a Netflix stand-up special was delivered by a pregnant woman, and naturally this experience informed much of Wong’s gut-splitting jokes. Beyond that, Baby Cobra is about the comedian’s experience with transitioning from adolescence to adulthood and from single life to marriage.

3. Chelsea Peretti: One of the Greats (2014)

Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Chelsea Peretti is able to elicit laughs simply with the subtle intonation of her voice. In One of the Greats, she proclaims unabashedly that she is the GOAT of comedy, and it’s hard to disagree. This self-aware vanity informs much of Peretti’s set, as she hilariously unpacks observational ticks like small talk, dating, and the pleasure of staying home. For extra measure, One of the Greats features increasingly bizarre and cutaway shots of everything from dogs, a couple making out, and an audience member using a leaf blower.

2. Hannah Gadsby: Nanette (2018)

Australian comic Hannah Gadsby redefined a stand-up set with Nanette, a special that’s just as concerned with jokes as it is with commentary on the pitfalls of misogyny. While there are moments of extreme hilarity, brought on by Gadsby’s dry humor and incisive wit, Nanette is also an exercise in powerful storytelling. Gadsby’s rage, sadness, joy, and internal monologue are on full display in the special, which has rightfully been considered a game-changer in the comedy world.

1. Bo Burnham: Inside (2021)

Few people deliver jokes as hilarious and gut-wrenching as Bo Burnham. In 2021’s Inside, the actor, comedian, and musician looks inward at the effects of the pandemic, politics and the general wasteland of society.

Interspersed throughout the incisive special are moments of genuine sadness, thought-provoking commentary and of course, hilarious original songs. Inside was recorded over the course of one year in Burnham’s home, and it remains a Netflix special masterpiece.

Ali Wong’s height confirmed https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/news/ali-wongs-height-confirmed/ https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/news/ali-wongs-height-confirmed/#respond Wed, 17 Jan 2024 17:35:02 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/?p=1648050 The 'Beef' star may tower above the crowd comedically, but when it comes to her actual height, that's another story. ]]>

Ali Wong is one of the queens of comedy, but while she towers over the comedy competition, she usually falls short, literally, standing next to them. Now we’ve got her actual height confirmed.

Big things come in small packages, and that is certainly the case with Ali Wong. Wong is a stand-up comedian, actress, writer, producer, etc. basically, you name it, and she has probably done it. She is certainly a woman of many talents, with three Netflix specials under her belt: Baby Cobra, Hard Knock Wife, and Don Wong. She also stars in the hit Netflix series Beef, alongside Steven Yeun, and was in the romantic comedy Always Be My Baby. She is the first Asian woman to ever win an Emmy for a leading role. Her list of accomplishments is obviously quite extensive, yet one of the most Googled things about her is her height.

How tall is Ali Wong?

Ali Wong attracts a lot of attention, she’s a very successful comedian and actress, yet one of the things people notice most about her, oddly enough, is her height. Yet never fear, because we are here to clear up the confusion and give a final answer on exactly how tall Ali Wong actually is, or in this case, is not.

According to a report Ali Wong gave to E-News the 41-year-old actress is a self-disclosed 5 feet tall. She jokes she is so short that she can even fit into a tracksuit made for an 11 or 12-year-old. So while Ali is certainly a comedic giant, physically she is quite small.

Okay, so maybe she doesn’t tower over the competition physically, but comedically, Wong is still heads above the crowd. Coming in at only 5 feet tall, she is certainly proof to us all that it is not the size of the package that matters, but what’s inside that truly counts.

Where to watch all the 2024 Emmy-winning shows https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/tv/where-to-watch-all-the-emmy-2024-winning-shows/ https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/tv/where-to-watch-all-the-emmy-2024-winning-shows/#respond Tue, 16 Jan 2024 12:44:31 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/?p=1648371 We've been blessed with a year of excellent television, and here's where to watch the very best of the small screen]]>

Succession and The Bear may have swept up at the 75th Emmy Awards, but a number of other shows earned much-deserved statuettes.

The HBO series about the dysfunctional billionaire Roy family added six wins to its already impressive Emmy haul last night, but their 2024 tally was matched by the FX show about a superstar chef who returns to his family-owned restaurant after his brother’s suicide. They were followed closely by Ali Wong’s Beef, which was honored five times. The White Lotus and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver added to HBO’s overall plunder, continuing their dominance of the event.

Competition was incredibly tough this year, and some truly outstanding shows like The Last of Us and Wednesday went home empty handed. Better Call Saul continued its streak of raking in the nominations without winning anything, much to the chagrin of its devoted fanbase. And there was some big news for Sir Elton John, who secured the final letter of his EGOT thanks to Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium.

If you’re keen to catch up on all this excellent television but don’t know where to start, you can find out where to watch all the Emmy 2024 winning shows below!

How does Ali Wong’s net worth compare to Steven Yeun’s? https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/celebrities/how-does-ali-wongs-net-worth-compare-to-steven-yeuns/ https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/celebrities/how-does-ali-wongs-net-worth-compare-to-steven-yeuns/#respond Tue, 09 Jan 2024 18:25:03 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/?p=1646130 The stars of Netflix's 'Beef' just got a lot more popular.]]>

The stars of Netflix’s Beef walked away happy from the 2024 Golden Globes.

Ali Wong and Steven Yeun, who play dual leads Amy Lau and Danny Cho, secured the awards for Best Actor and Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film, and the series likewise earned the Golden Globe for Best Limited Series. The captivating Netflix show swept in every category it was nominated in, and each award was well-earned.

The Emmy Awards are like to follow in suit, and each fresh award urges new viewers to set sights on the incredible limited series. Its stars are likewise earning fresh acclaim, as dazzled viewers walk away from the show as Yeun and Wong fans. Both stars have lengthy, and successful, careers behind them, with notable work on either side.

What are Steven Yeun and Ali Wong’s net worths?

https://youtu.be/AFPIMHBzGDs?si=1u9l1IaI6rYGlDt3

You may not know their names by heart, but you’ve likely heard at least one or two Ali Wong jokes, and everyone‘s heard of The Walking Dead. Zombies may not be your thing, but even newcomers can likely recognize Yeun’s character, Glenn, on sight.

That’s on top of their other work. Wong has a three Netflix comedy specials under her belt, a slew of television shows — including 2022’s Paper Girls and the animated Big Mouth — and several film appearances to her credit.

Yeun’s work in The Walking Dead is easily his best known, but its far from his only prominent project. He’s discovered a real talent for voice acting — appearing as the lead character in Prime Video’s Invincible and the Tales of Arcadia collection — and he’s been in several dozen various film and television projects, many of which display his incredible range.

That work, and several years of additional experience on top of Wong’s — not to mention those good old Hollywood pay discrepancies — has earned Yeun a slightly higher net worth. All that may be set to change, as new creators recognize and cash in on Wong’s clear talent, but for now Yeun is worth a good $1 million more than his Beef co-star. His net worth currently stands at around $5 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth, and Wong’s is a touch lower at $4 million.

Both Yeun and Wong are likely to see those bank s bulk up in the coming years, as their incredible performances (and those awards wins) earn them more and more profitable roles. Within a few years, we should be seeing the stars everywhere, and they should see those net worths doubling and tripling. Sounds like a win for everyone.

Comedian and actress Ali Wongs star continues to rise as her new series Beef tops Netflix’s charts in over 50 countries, becoming one of the most-watched show on the platform this year.

In the 10-episode dark comedic thriller, Wong stars alongside Steven Yeun as an entrepreneur caught in a feud with Yeun’s character after a road rage incident. The battle quickly escalates from pettiness to full-on revenge as the pair become more and more entangled in each other’s lives. Beef is receiving praise from critics and casual viewers alike, with a near perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Wong and Yeun give standout performances in the chaotic comedy drama, and we especially love seeing Wong show some serious acting chops. While the comedian is no stranger to the screen, she first came on the scene as a stand-up comedian (getting mainstream attention after Netflix aired her comedy special Ali Wong: Baby Cobra) before exploring more acting roles.

Wong has an extensive catalog of shows and films she’s improved with her presence and in light of the success of Beef, it’s beyond time we shared our favorites with our readers. Here’s our ranking of Ali Wong’s top 10 best movies and TV shows.

10. American Housewife (2016-2021)

In the ABC sitcom American Housewife, housewife Katie Otto lives in the wealthy suburb of Westport, Connecticut with her perfectly imperfect family. The suburb is full of picture-perfect families and Otto is a bit of an outcast among the other moms; she finds a community in her two best friends, Doris and Kathy. Wong plays Doris, a complex mom in the neighborhood who is equal parts hilarious and horrendously strict with her children. In the role, Wong utilizes her comedic skills while playing a character the audience doesn’t always like — our conflicted feelings are evidence of a job well done. Wong ultimately left the show a few seasons in, but she was a highlight up until then.

9. Human Resources (2022-Present)

https://youtu.be/PAI6MWo8qZA

Human Resources is a spin-off of Netflix’s Big Mouth (in which Wong also stars), an animated show that gets candid about the human body and growing up. While Big Mouth is more family-friendly, its offshoot is a little more oriented toward an adult audience; Human Resources follows the monsters from Big Mouth when they’re not helping kids navigate puberty in a style reminiscent of The Office. The workplace comedy follows monsters from Big Mouth while introducing us to new creatures tasked with helping humans navigate the many periods of their lives. Both shows have some hilarious moments, but Human Resources wins out by providing viewers with wackier plot points and more relatable scenarios. In the show, Wong voices Becca Lee, a first-time mother as she battles her doubts and successfully gives birth to her newborn with the help of her monsters.

8. Birds of Prey (2020)

While Wong might only play a ing role in 2020’s Birds of Prey, she’s more than memorable as Gotham City district attorney Ellen Yee. The film tells the story of infamous baddie Harley Quinn as she moves on after a bad breakup with the Joker, a task made more difficult when she loses his protection and finds herself wanted both by the police and Gotham’s criminals. Wong is not one of the eponymous Birds of Prey, but the ex-girlfriend and coworker of Detective Renee Montoya; she ends up betraying Montoya’s trust, leading to the latter’s suspension from the Gotham Police Department. This suspension spurs the plot along, and helps Quinn finally find her group. We’d love to see more Wong in future films in the Gotham universe.

7. Ali Wong: Hard Knock Wife (2018)

After the success of her first Netflix comedy special, 2016’s Ali Wong: Baby Cobra, Netflix released a second a short two years later. In Baby Cobra, Wong is pregnant with her first child and is excited to become a mother; in Hard Knock Wife, Wong is pregnant with her second child, and she’s incredibly honest with the audience about how tough motherhood can be. With impeccable comedic timing, Wong shares some harsh truths about pregnancy and motherhood that most women conceal from one another. The comedian gets candid in a way that makes other moms feel seen and refreshingly, she does it without an ounce of shame.

6. Onward (2020)

In Onward, brothers Ian and Barley Lightfoot live in a fantasy world where magic has been all but forgotten in favor of modern technology. On Ian’s 16th birthday, he is gifted with the means to summon his late father for a 24 hour period, but is interrupted by his older brother and fails to complete the spell, only resurrecting the lower half of his father’s body. The siblings journey to find a way to finish the spell, bringing their dad back completely. It’s a sweet story about the importance of family, and Wong plays a small but pivotal part in the plot as officer Gore, a faun police officer. When the two brothers use magic to disguise themselves as their mother’s boyfriend, Gore inadvertently reveals Ian thinks Barley is a “screw-up,” and this causes major tension between the two.

5. Paper Girls (2022)

Adapted from the comic series of the same name, Paper Girls was cancelled after only one season on Prime Video. Don’t let that stop you from checking out the sci-fi series, though; Paper Girls is still a great watch even if we don’t know if it will ever return anywhere. The four titular paper girls find themselves caught between two warring factions of time travelers after they accidentally jump from their year of 1988 to 2019. Wong plays the modern-day version of Erin Tieng, and helps her younger self and friends after they wind up in the present day.

4. Tuca & Bertie (2019-2022)

Tuca & Bertie is an animated series that follows two very different bird best friends in their early 30s as they navigate their professional and personal lives. Wong stars alongside Tiffany Haddish as the career-minded Bertie, a more serious foil to the impulsive Tuca the toucan. In addition to the two best friends, Wong’s Beef co-star Steven Yeun voices Bertie’s boyfriend, a robin who works as an architect. The show might be silly, but it explores several complex aspects of adulthood while still being a hilarious watch. Tuca & Bertie originally aired on Netflix before being picked up by Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim programming block, but was ultimately cancelled last year.

3. Always Be My Maybe (2019)

Wong and Randall Park first met at an event hosted by a mutual friend from the LCC Theatre Company, the Asian American performance group Park co-founded while at UCLA, and continued to stay in touch. The two ed each other and hoped to eventually work on their own script together, a movie Wong told the New Yorker would be their attempt at a classic romantic comedy in the style of When Harry Met Sally. Eventually, Netflix helped get the project off the ground, and Always Be My Maybe was released in 2019. The result is a cute rom-com starring Wong and Park as two childhood friends who reconnect in adulthood when Wong’s character returns to her old hometown of San Francisco to open a restaurant. Expect laughs, love, and a hilarious Keanu Reeves cameo.

2. Beef (2023-Present)

https://youtu.be/AFPIMHBzGDs

Although the newest entry in Wong’s filmography, it was inevitable Beef would make its way on this list. The Netflix series was only released a few weeks ago, but is already a standout among her impressive resume. We won’t say too much about the plot (Beef is a show best watched blind) but Wong shines in scenes where she explores her character Amy’s shame and darker desires. Even though Wong is great on her own, we can’t help but be mesmerized by the few scenes with her and Yeun. The two lead actors play well off of each other and the intense final episode shows the two at their best. Hopefully Beef can by the Netflix curse and get renewed for a second season, so we can see more of the two powerhouse actors onscreen together.

1. Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe (2020)

The beloved Disney animated series Phineas and Ferb officially ended its run in 2015 after four successful seasons, but when the creators were approached by Disney to create a film a few years later, they got to work on the fantastic Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe. The film, released in 2020, gives older sister Candace the main character treatment after she is kidnapped by an alien named Super Super Big Doctor, played by Wong. In many ways, Big Doctor exemplifies Candace’s very worst traits. No longer wanting to feel overlooked, Big Doctor decides to take over Earth and mind control her subjects in order to finally feel important. Sure, it’s a voice role in a kids cartoon, but Wong’s character teaches Candace an important lesson by showing Phineas and Ferb’s older sister what would happen if she continued to resent her brothers.

It’s been nearly a month since Paper Girls finally made the leap to live-action television, having premiered on Amazon Prime Video during the tail-end of July. It proved to be a series that could tango with the best of them, weaving together a brilliant cast with some of the most entertaining sci-fi nuances since The Umbrella Academy and Stranger Things.

The show wasn’t without a healthy dose of star power either, with comedy mainstays Ali Wong and Jason Mantzoukas making turns as an adult version of one of the main cast , and the supreme leader of the show’s antagonistic force, the Old Watch, respectively.

And as it turns out, we wouldn’t have gotten to see Wong’s gutsy yet giddy performance as a grown-up Erin if not for Mantzoukas. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Wong revealed that Mantzoukas sparked her interest in the adaptation with a stack of Paper Girls comics, on which the show is based on.

“Jason was being such a good friend. He sent me this huge box of comic books, and it included the whole series of Paper Girls. I think I finished it in one or two days. I loved it so much. He didn’t even tell me that it centered on a young Asian-American girl!”

She would go on to reveal that once she landed her role in the show, she in turn encouraged Mantzoukas to also throw his hat in the ring for the role of the Grand Father, whom he would ultimately end up being cast as.

Paper Girls is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.

Cheers of joy echoed around the internet when the trailer for Paper Girls, Amazon Prime Video’s latest comic book adaptation, popped into our feeds earlier this month. Now, with the series finally available to the public, the reviews are coming in hard and fast, and it looks like Amazon’s answer to Stranger Things is hoarding its fair share of thumbs-ups if its current 100 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes is anything to go by.

Based on Brian K. Vaughn’s comic book series of the same name, the series follows four friends, Mac, Tiffany, Erin, and KJ, who all have the same job delivering newspapers around their neighborhood in the 1980s. When the girls become trapped in a time warp that sends them all the way to 2019, they get involved in an inter-timeline war, all while meeting future versions of themselves and subsequently coming to with their fates.

Caitlin Welsh of Mashable was fond of the series and argued that Paper Girls was so much more than a good show in the realm of Stranger Things.

But this is a show with an enormous heart, and a beautiful setting for exploring the tension coiled tight inside that moment when childhood is over and adolescence hasn’t quite started. Those kids from Hawkins can blast Kate Bush and splay their hands at each other all they like, but there’s never been a Stranger Things scene quite like the one where Mac, Tiff, KJ, and Erin try to decipher a tampon box leaflet.

Our very own Scott Campbell was happy to praise the series as well, suggesting we could very well be looking at “the latest bingeable sci-fi streaming sensation.”

However, the fast-paced, fun-filled, impeccably-acted, and always engaging eight episodes will more than likely leave viewers crossing their fingers in the hopes that a renewal will be announced sooner rather than later.

And Jenna Scherer of The AV Club echoed similar sentiments, noting that while the show visibly is looking for its feet, we’ll likely find ourselves more than happy to come along for the ride anyway.

…it’s a highly bingeable slice of summer TV fare that, like its heroes, is going through some early growing pains. And considering it finishes on a cliffhanger, we’re crossing our fingers for a second season.

Paper Girls is currently available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.

Vaughan's sci-fi comic is getting an Amazon Prime adaptation.]]>

In one, sweet, simple motion, Amazon Prime Video teed itself up to go toe-to-toe with Netflix’s Stranger Things and The Umbrella Academy with a brand new teaser trailer for the series Paper Girls, based on Brian K. Vaughan’s sci-fi comic book series of the same name.

First announced by the streamer in 2019, Paper Girls takes place in the year 1988, or it does, at least, until protagonists Mac, Tiffany, Erin, and KJ, four best friends who deliver newspapers together, find themselves caught in the middle of a war between different bands of time-travelers, landing them in the year 2019. As their responsibilities escalate from paper delivery to world saving, the girls go on a dizzying, time-jumping adventure whilst encountering their future selves along the way, forcing them to come to gripes with what will be.

Sofia Rosinsky, Camryn Jones, Riley Lai Nelet, and Fina Strazza star as the four protagonists, respectively, while Ali Wong (Birds of Prey) will portray an adult Erin.

The Paper Girls comic has frequently been compared to Stranger Things, with its 80s pop culture homages and kids-on-bikes aesthetic for the protagonists, and the overwhelming presence of time travel may echo similar comparisons to The Umbrella Academy. Without even mentioning the success of the show’s source material, Paper Girls is drawing upon an ethos that has proved worthy of critical acclaim time and time again, and the show’s tantalizing teaser trailer is doing all the favors for Amazon Prime’s latest adaptation.

Paper Girls releases to Amazon Prime Video on July 29.
