Every year it feels like there’s at least one actor, or film, director, or composer, who misses out on their much-deserved Oscar win. Back in 2023, Hollywood legend Angela Bassett was unable to hide her disappointment after losing out on the Best ing Actress award to Jamie Lee Curtis. 1o6h1s

Angela Bassett is deserving of an Oscar 4jn3b

Bassett’s reaction quickly went viral and the actress has since spoken about the moment the camera panned to show her visibly disappointed reaction to Curtis’ win. In an interview with Oprah she claimed she was “gobsmacked.” More recently she told townandcountrymag.com that she felt it was “Interesting that I wouldn’t be allowed to be disappointed at an outcome where I thought I was deserving.”

Two years on and the actress is still standing by her belief that she deserved that award. Honestly? Good for her. The 66-year-old went on to say that she loved applauding others, but felt like she had put in the work in this case.

“I love applauding people. But in that moment… No, I have put in: put in the time, put in good work over time. I didn’t think that was a gift. I thought it was a given.”

Unfortunately that’s the nature of show business. There are winners and losers and sometimes talent isn’t always recognized where it should be. Bassett, nominated for her role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, was up against a group of great ing actresses but ultimately Curtis took it home for her performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once.

While the latter may arguably be a more Oscar-worthy film (depending on who you ask), many think that Bassett’s performance in Black Panther was more deserving of the award and many were just as disappointed as the actor herself when she didn’t win. Fans voiced their displeasure with the decision and even some of Bassett’s fellow actors came out in of her

That’s not to say that Curtis doesn’t deserve an Oscar, but for that role in particular? Just no. It feels like a slap in the face to Bassett who many agreed was the better ing Actress that year. And she had a point when she said that she was “allowed to be disappointed” — she’s human after all.

“I thought I handled it very well, also,” she told Oprah. “And that was my intention, to handle it very well. It was, of course, a supreme disappointment, and disappointment is human.”

Angela Bassett did get her Oscar eventually 22y4r

While the Academy might not have shown any love for her back in 2023, the actress did finally get some recognition for all she has contributed to the arts over the span of her career. In 2024 she was awarded an honorary Oscar at the Governor’s Awards which aims to reward actors who have been overlooked at previous ceremonies.

How could anyone possibly be rude to Ke Huy Quan?]]>
<![CDATA[

Last night was a big night for Oppenheimer star Robert Downey Jr. who took home his first ever Academy award for Best ing Actor. Although he’s receiving a lot of criticism from fans who claim the actor snubbed Ke Huy Quan.

Downey was up against some stiff competition for the award; Robert De Niro, Sterling K. Brown, Mark Ruffalo, and Ryan Gosling were all in the running. Meanwhile, last year’s winner of the award, Ke Huy Quan, stood up on stage to present the award. When he made the announcement the Iron Man star took a moment to celebrate with his wife and wave to the crowd before making his way on stage and taking the trophy from Quan without even making eye with him.

He did, however, shake Tim Robbins hand and fist bump Sam Rockwell before making his acceptance speech; even during his speech, he made time to thank Sam and the “fellas.” Although that only served to make the fact that he ignored the guy giving out the award even more blatant. Watching the whole clip, it’s hard to see it as anything other than a snub.

Naturally, this has upset a large portion of the internet. Ke Huy Quan was the talk of the town last year after his Oscar win for Everything, Everywhere, All at Once. His comeback story was one of the most inspirational and wholesome things to ever happen, alongside Brendan Fraser, who also had an amazing comeback last year. On top of that, he just seems like such a nice guy and as such, people feel protective of him, so seeing Downey not even acknowledge him left a bad taste in many people’s mouths.

Fans aired their grievances out online with some calling the star ‘arrogant.’

Of course, in the excitement of the moment it’s possible to become overwhelmed, which might explain it. Although if the internet does give Downey the benefit of the doubt then that means we also owe Taylor Swift an apology. Last month the singer was heavily criticized for her apparent snub of music legend Celine Dion, the whole thing was very similar to what happened between Dowey and Quan last night. Others also pointed out that Emma Stone also seemingly snubbed last year’s best actress winner, Michelle Yeoh, when accepting her award. It seems not snubbing the people handing out the awards is harder than it looks.

https://twitter.com/ankylosarahs/status/1767080378869940481?s=20

Similar to the Taylor Swift situation, Downey took a picture with Quan backstage after his acceptance speech, so it seems likely that the snub (hopefully) wasn’t intentional. After all, how could anyone have a problem with Ke Huy Quan? The man is just too wholesome.

They were well-deserved, that's for sure.]]>
<![CDATA[

There’s no doubt that the 95th Academy Awards proved to be another memorable night for the Oscars landscape as a whole with one of the most varied array of films put forward, from Top Gun: Maverick to Triangle of Sadness. That being said, the one glaring piece of cinema that stuck in folks’ minds more than any of the others had to be The Daniels’ sci-fi drama, Everything Everywhere All at Once.

As fantastic and engaging as the movie on its own truly was to the public eye, it’s not a surprise that a variety of other actors gained Oscars gold from their performances in the larger-than-life movie. Since its colossal release in theaters back in 2022, the absurdist extravaganza has maintained its popularity amongst film buffs around the world, with a large portion of moviegoers scratching their heads and collectively wondering if the Daniels have any plans to present a much-anticipated sequel — but we’ll likely have to wait on that.

Following the massive success of the movie last year, film buffs scattered to figure out how many Oscars the movie had nabbed, and even in 2024, it appears as though folks are beginning to ask that same question as we near this year’s Oscars ceremony.

So, how many Oscars did EEAAO win? 4j6f6a

As shocking as it might be, the film made an impressive haul at the 2023 ceremony, bringing home a total of seven Oscars across multiple categories after being nominated for 11 awards. Few movies have done as well as the Daniels’ feature, with the last time one film received so many awards being in 2008 with Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire, which won 8 Oscars. Everything Everywhere All At Once received the award for Best Picture as well as Best Director and Best Original Screenplay, beating out competition such as All Quiet on the Western Front, The Banshees of Inisherin and Avatar: The Way of Water.

Michelle Yeoh also brought home the award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, becoming the first Asian woman in the history of the Oscars to win the prestigious award. In addition, Ke Huy Quan was awarded the Best Actor in a ing Role. Quan, most well known for his appearances in Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom and The Goonies, struggled to find work after his early success. During his acceptance speech, he stood and delivered a tearful oration as the crowd gave him a standing ovation. Quan also had an emotional reunion with Brendan Fraser, who’s also had a similarly heartwarming Hollywood comeback story. Fraser won Best Lead Actor for his performance in The Whale; he and Quan last shared the screen in the ’90s comedy, Encino Man

Jamie Lee Curtis won Best Actress in a ing Role, which drew some serious side-eye from fellow nominee, Angela Bassett (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever). This is Curtis’ first win at the Oscars despite being a prominent name in Hollywood for over 40 years. The seventh and final award was for Best Editing, which was awarded to Paul Rogers.

Following their performances, Curtis has gone on to captivate audiences on FX’s The Bear, Yeoh’s fresh-faced project, The Brothers Sun, is proving to be a hit on Netflix, and Ke Huy Quan has since made a major splash on Loki. So it’s fair to state that EEAAO did wonders for these performers’ careers.

In the aftermath of their Oscar wins, however, fans reacted online and celebrated the well-deserved wins for both the creators and the actors; Yeoh’s win was especially important to many.

All in all, there hasn’t been a feature film that made this much of an impact in a long time. And while there was plenty of amazing competition last year, the Daniels’ second feature film is certainly deserving of the attention that it’s getting right now, and it’s great to see movies with a more diverse cast finally doing well amongst audiences and critics. There’s no doubt that the actresses and actors within the film have also done a great job in bringing their performances to life and their awards were well deserved, so here’s hoping we can see a second venture soon.

For those wishing to observe the unforgettable feature for themselves, Everything Everywhere All at Once is available to stream now on platforms such as Netflix, Hulu, Paramount Plus, and Prime Video.

How many Oscars has Jamie Lee Curtis won? 46656k https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/celebrities/how-many-oscars-has-jamie-lee-curtis-won/ <![CDATA[Tristyn Akbas]]> Wed, 28 Feb 2024 14:00:30 +0000 <![CDATA[Celebrities]]> <![CDATA[Events]]> <![CDATA[Movies]]> <![CDATA[95th Academy Awards]]> <![CDATA[Academy Awards]]> <![CDATA[Everything Everywhere All at Once]]> <![CDATA[Halloween]]> <![CDATA[Jamie Lee Curtis]]> <![CDATA[Oscars]]> <![CDATA[Oscars 2023]]> https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/?p=1447425 <![CDATA[
Surely the legendary actress has won some awards.]]>
<![CDATA[

Without question, Jamie Lee Curtis is Hollywood royalty. She is not only the daughter of acclaimed performers Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, but she has been in films since her feature debut in John Carpenter’s horror masterpiece Halloween, which was released back in 1978 and catapulted her career to massive stardom. From there, it was only a matter of time until Curtis nabbed some eye-popping Oscars gold — although it certainly took her a hearty length of time to get there.

Seeing as she has been serving up stellar performances for the last four decades, it should hardly come as a huge surprise that the 65-year-old actress has been nominated for a plethora of prestigious awards. Then again, when you’ve had a career as successful and triumphant as the one that Curtis has had, it probably feels as though the accomplishments and accolades just seem to pour in. With unforgettable flicks such as Trading Places, A Fish Called Wanda, and True Lies in her repertoire, a magnitude of Hollywood gold was definitely in her future.

So with a vital resume as impressive as one resume can possibly get, it’s no wonder film buffs have continued to wonder over the years just how many Academy Awards Curtis has managed to actually take home.

So, how many Oscars has Curtis won in her career? 371j65

Believe it or not, Curtis has only won one singular Oscar in her illustrious career. Just last year, she was awarded her only Oscar during the 95th Academy Awards, taking home the statuette for Best ing Actress for her role as Deirdre Beaubeirdre in the massively popular feature Everything Everywhere All at Once

Truth be told, it is astonishing that she has only been nominated and won once in what is nearly half a century of great work. But just because she was not recognized by the Academy over the years does not mean that she did not see recognition for her work in other areas. Curtis has been nominated for Golden Globes, BAFTA Awards, and an Emmy. In fact, she won a BAFTA for 1983’s Trading Places, the John Landis comedy starring Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd. She also managed to take home Golden Globes for her roles in both Anything But Love and True Lies.

Why hasn’t she been awarded Oscars before now? It might be because for most of her career, Curtis has been doing a variety of genre projects, from Halloween to Scream Queens, to Trading Places all the way to Freaky Friday. The Academy tends to overlook genre films, especially comedy and horror movies, so that’s undoubtedly why she doesn’t have a longer list of nominations.

Last year’s Oscars seemingly changed the narrative, however, where a genre movie received all the love at the Academy Awards, and she won for the sci-fi film Everything Everywhere All at Once. She was not the only cast member to walk away with an Oscar as her co-star, Ke Huy Quan, also managed to win Best ing Actor while the film managed to garner a total of 11 nominations, the highest for any of the nominated films in 2023.

And with Curtis’ Oscar finally secure, folks have started to question whether or not she could receive an award for her performance as Donna Berzatto in FX’s The Bear — a performance that was praised by critics and fanatics of the series alike. Despite sadly missing the cutoff for the 2023 Emmys, it’s worth noting that she’ll certainly be eligible to be nominated for this year.

Ke Huy Quan's career renaissance just won't stop. ]]>
<![CDATA[

Ke Huy Quan boasts one of Tinsel Town’s most heart-warming comeback stories of all time. The actor rose to fame on the strength of his childhood performances in blockbuster hits like Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and The Goonies but slowly slipped off of Hollywood’s radar, instead appearing in foreign market films and eventually finding work behind the camera as a fight choreographer and assistant director.

That all changed in 2018 when Quan saw the movie Crazy Rich Asians and, believing Hollywood’s discriminatory casting policies had changed, decided to work to make his dreams of acting success a reality. Now, Quan’s Oscar-winning role as Waymond Wang in 2022’s surprise art house hit Everything Everywhere All at Once has brought him back into the spotlight. The film and Quan have amassed critical acclaim and won a slew of awards. Outside the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Quan has won dozens of other Best ing Actor awards from Film Critics associations nationwide and even picked up the SAG award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a ing Role.

With the now Best Picture-winning Everything Everywhere All at Once and Quan’s career looking brighter than ever before, including most recently having a prominent role in the MCU Disney Plus show Loki season 2, here are 10 of his best performances in movies and TV, ranked.

10. Red Pirate 4c373p

Quan’s fanny pack action sequence in Everything Everywhere All at Once is one of the movie’s most riveting action sequences but Quan has a long history with action films. After his career as a child actor was drawing to a close Quan appeared in the 1997 Taiwanese actioner Red Pirate. He starred as Hong Kong inspector Kwai Chia-Chiang, who travels to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam to try and bring down a notorious crime lord.

9. Breathing Fire 2t3ya

Quan’s martial arts movie debut was Breathing Fire, a 1991 remake of the 1977 Hong Kong action movie The Flash Legs, aka Shaolin Deadly Kicks. The film was produced by Tan Tao-liang – a former martial arts movie star who was Quan’s Taekwando mentor. The film nearly featured the late Power Rangers star Jason David Frank as Quan’s adoptive brother but Frank had to refuse the role due to scheduling conflicts.

8. Second Time Around 26u1h

Quan starred in this 2002 Chinese romantic drama as the protagonist’s best friend. In a strange twist the film — which would feature Quan’s last performance for nearly twenty years — also featured the use of parallel universes (although not nearly the same amount that Everything Everywhere All at Once utilizes).

7. Together We Stand 73546r

After earning big-screen success, Quan had his first major television role in the short-lived 1986 sitcom Together We Stand. The show featured Elliott Gould and E.T.’s Dee Wallace as a married couple who adopt two children in addition to their biological son and daughter. Quan starred as Sam – an Asian-American orphan adopted by the pair. Although initial ratings were high, they soon plunged and the show was canceled after only one year on the air.

6. Finding Ohana 73o2f

While fans have been clamoring for a sequel to The Goonies for some time now, this 2021 Netflix family adventure film is probably as close as they will ever get to having one. Finding ‘Ohana is loosely based on the 1985 hit directed by Christopher Columbus and featuring Quan in one of his early childhood breakout roles. A pair of siblings move to Hawaii and find themselves in the middle of a Goonies-style hunt for pirate treasure. Quan was the only member of the original cast to appear in the movie.

5. Encino Man 64642f

Though Quan only plays a small role in this fish-out-of-water story of a stone-age teenager transplanted to ’90s-era California, it did introduce him to star Brendan Fraser. The two formed a friendship that has continued to this day, a fact they are both celebrating in a year where both of their stars have changed trajectory and the two of them are celebrating critical acclaim in a way neither has for years if ever.

4. Loki season 2 4f636t

Though it’s early in its run, Ke Huy Quan’s appearance as the Time Variance Authority agent Ouroboros in Loki‘s second season is already proving to be a standout performance. That’s an impressive feat when you consider he is sharing scenes with Hollywood heavy-hitters such as Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson. However, with an Oscar now under his belt, it isn’t entirely surprising to see him completely knock it out of the park with his role as a quirky technician for the mysterious agency that exists outside of time. Coming off as both authoritative and yet friendly and eccentric, Quan carves out a unique character in the Marvel pantheon despite it seeming to have a lot of similarities with his Everything Everwhere character on paper.

3. Goonies 2e4s2g

Goonies is undoubtedly Quan’s second-biggest role of his childhood and one that is still beloved by Gen-X kids and Millennials alike. His performance as the gadget-loving kid genius and James Bond fanatic Data was the role that cemented his child star career. Quan has stated that he’s even open to revisiting the character although he finds the idea of a sequel unlikely given the death of the movie’s director Richard Donner.

2. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom v1zk

Very few people get to make their movie debut in an Indiana Jones movie, much less one of the most popular sequels of all time. Quan nailed down the role of Short Round when he was only 12 years old and auditioned for his part at his own elementary school. Before winning the part, Quan had no plans to become an actor. “I love Steven Spielberg. I love this man with all my heart,” Quan told Variety. “And after I gave my speech on the stage, I looked over to him, and he gave me a standing ovation. Can you believe it? I could not believe it. Here is the most successful director of all time. Gave me a standing ovation. And he gave me a lot. Gave me my first job. He’s the reason why I fell in love with acting.”

1. Everything Everywhere All at Once 16415

Waymond Wang — the husband of Michelle Yeoh’s Evelyn Quan Wang — may be the role Quan was born to play. Though his character at the start of the film is a nebbishy, almost henpecked husband, by the end of the film we get to see Waymond transformed into a multitude of alternate universe versions, not only showing the heart of the character but allowing Quan to demonstrate the extreme acting range that has made him the darling of this year’s awards season. He even got to utilize his impressive skills as a martial artist. It’s safe to say no one will ever see a fanny pack the same way after seeing Quan in Everything Everywhere All at Once.

when every other franchise was accused of copying Marvel?]]>
<![CDATA[

Thanks to a string of critical and commercial disappointments, the previously-impenetrable armor of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been cracked like never before, and we’ve reached a point where not even the return of a universally-beloved character is immune from criticism, after the trailer for season 2 of Loki was accused of being a multiversal ripoff.

Of course, there was once a time when every major IP in Hollywood was batting away accusations it had been reading a little too closely from Kevin Feige’s playbook, but the times have changed after fans and general audiences alike slowly but surely grew sourer on the never-ending deluge of content.

As the first Disney Plus series to have been renewed, Loki is already unique in and of itself, but a tweet that acknowledged its own potentially inflammatory nature has bravely poked its head above the online parapet to claim the DNA of Everything Everywhere All at Once and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is there for all to see.

It’s not exactly a groundbreaking analysis when you consider the Academy Award-winning star of the former is front-and-center in the footage, while the latter also happens to be a Marvel Comics adaptation dealing with fractured timelines and alternate realities, but calling Loki a facsimile seems harsh.

MCU ers have been burned more often than they could have ever expected since the Multiverse Saga began, so regardless of whether you think it’s a ripoff or not, let’s just hope Loki delivers the goods when it lands in October.

Kevin Feige has bet big on the Multiverse Saga, but the jury remains well and truly out on whether or not it’s paid off as the Marvel Cinematic Universe struggles to win over the doubters who believe the franchise has finally bitten off more than it can chew.

In fairness, James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has won strong reactions from critics and made a lot of money at the box office, but it also can’t help but be noticed the trilogy-capper isn’t tied into the overarching tapestry of Phases Five and Six in the slightest. In fact, in less than two weeks from now, the MCU could very well end up as only the fourth-best multiverse to hit theaters in a little over 12 months, which hammers home the size of the task at hand.

The number one spot belongs to the multi-time Academy Award-winning instant classic Everything Everywhere All at Once, although Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has notched early reactions and reviews that indicate it’s going to be every bit as good as its formidable predecessor.

Then there’s The Flash, which has been touted as one of the best superhero blockbusters of the modern age, one that also hits the reset button on a shared sandbox that’s being led into a bright new future by none other than former MCU stalwart James Gunn. There’s still plenty of time to arrest the slide, but so deep into its tenure as cinema’s most bankable and bulletproof brand, being anything less than the best isn’t good enoug.

Oscar-winning actress Michelle Yeoh shared her insight on the possibility of a sequel for A24’s Everything Everywhere All At Once. A film about a mother who learns about the multiverse through another version of her husband won Best Picture at the 2023 Oscar awards and made a massive sweep during this year’s award season.

Yeoh spoke during the Kering Women in Motion talks during this year’s Cannes Film Festival, where she spoke about her experience as an actress and how times have changed for Asian actors in the industry. Variety reported that Yeoh commented on the possibility of a sequel for the A24 hit. Unfortunately, Yeoh believes that a sequel isn’t something that will be in the works since she believed that the film would just be “doing the same thing.”

“There’s no sequel. We would just be doing the same thing.”

Yeoh talked about what she thought made Everything Everywhere All at Once a success and how a sequel couldn’t recreate it. The actress claimed that a film getting a bigger budget to do more stunts, CGI, and violence wouldn’t make the film any better. What made EEAAO the huge hit we know and love today is its storytelling.

In the film, Evelyn Wang learned that in order to save the multiverse, she needed to save her daughter through love and acceptance. During the final battle, Evelyn used her knowledge of the multiverse to see what made her opponents feel like they were loved and accepted just so she reach her daughter. So it makes sense why Yeoh believes that the story shouldn’t overshadow the action.

“There are mega films that suffer terrible losses, yet they still go and keep doing the same thing. It’s the studios thinking that’s their comfort zone: these movies, the budgets get bigger and they feel more violence, the more CGI will make it better — but the truth of the matter is it’s not. It’s really storytelling. In Everything Everywhere All At Once, even though we traveled the multi-verses, the main theme was love.”

While it’s unfortunate that Everything, Everywhere All at Once part two won’t be a thing, Yeoh added she received a script that didn’t describe her character as “Chinese or Asian looking,” which is a sign of the industry truly moving forward.

After arriving at Cannes, Michelle Yeoh sat down for an interview where she described her first experience at the festival, as well as how things have changed in the business since then.]]>
<![CDATA[

Oscar-winning actor Michelle Yeoh has arrived at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, to the delight of pretty much everyone. In an interview with Variety, she discussed her first experience at the festival and why she feels optimistic about the direction of the film industry.

Considering that last week’s coverage of Cannes was dogged with controversy over the French celebrating Johnny Depp and other alleged abs, as well as some disappointing notes for the new Indiana Jones movie, Yeoh’s presence feels like a ray of sunshine — in a literal sense for attendees, as her interviewer credited Yeoh with finally bringing some good weather to the Palais des Festivals when she flew in over the weekend.

Among the many topics discussed, Yeoh dug into her first experience with the festival, which took place 23 years ago when she attended Cannes to promote Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Yeoh discussed what an overwhelming visit it proved to be, noting, “Cannes is a great place, but it can also be very brutal. If they don’t like your film, they tell you right away.”

Luckily, there was a standing ovation right in the middle of the film’s first screening, following an early action scene where Yeoh runs up the sides of walls and across rooftops. The film went on to become a box office success and was eventually nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture.

When asked about the state of the film industry today, Yeoh explained, “We fight for women continuously. We fight for equality. We fight for diversity. … But it also has to come from the top. If it doesn’t come from the top, it’s very hard for it to trickle down to the bottom.” However, Yeoh noted, the success of her recent films has forced Hollywood decision-makers to the same things she does.

“It started with Crazy Rich Asians,” she said, adding that the movie’s success set a “small fire” that kept growing. According to Yeoh, it had been 26 years since a “homegrown American movie” had an all-Asian cast, with The Joy Luck Club. The box office success of Crazy Rich Asians helped studios realize that Americans are willing to watch primarily Asian casts. Then, Yeoh noted, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was a success for Marvel, bringing the first Chinese superhero to the mainstream. Yeoh said that Shang-Chi “opened the door even wider.”

Her most recent success, of course, is last year’s Everything Everywhere All At Once, which was a hit at the box office and snagged several Oscar wins — including Best Lead Actress for Yeoh herself (the first time an Asian performer has won) and Best Picture. With that film, Yeoh said, “we just kung-fu’d our way through that glass ceiling.”

Even jet-lagged and forced to confront an onslaught of camera flashes, Yeoh was every bit as energetic and composed as expected. Beyond being a consummate professional who thankfully steered the Cannes narrative in a positive direction, she also revealed some worthwhile thoughts about the gender divide in Hollywood: “In the past, I’ve found that women are very critical of themselves,” she said, noting, “Men are not. Women, we nitpick at maybe our good things, even.”

But that might be changing, according to Yeoh. She said, “[E]specially in the last few years, you can see that women are speaking out a lot more for themselves.” Let’s make that the thesis of this year’s Cannes, shall we?

How many people can say they took a selfie with Joe Biden?]]>
<![CDATA[

If you thought Ke Huy Quan‘s comeback journey ended at the 95th Academy Awards, think again. The Everything Everywhere All At Once star continues to make waves, as his ion for taking selfies has landed him on the social media channels of none other than Joe Biden!

The US President took to Twitter to share a heartwarming video of his meeting with the effervescent star, who arrived with his wife, Echo, in an ornate stateroom at The White House. As they posed for a photo opportunity with the press, Quan turned to the leader of the free world and said, “Hold on, I forgot to ask you for one thing. You may not know this, but I love taking selfies. It would be the selfie of all selfies!” The self-proclaimed selfie expert playfully took Quan’s mobile phone from his hand, slipped an arm around his shoulders, and asked, “Are you ready"> https://twitter.com/Mar_DC767620022/status/1654194304334680066?s=20

Quan is a reminder not to be discouraged when our dreams are delayed. Some of the best things in life take time to come to fruition, but when they do, they are worth the wait.

‘Skeleton Crew’ recruits yet another MCU alumni for ‘Star Wars’ directorial duties 63c59 https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/news/skeleton-crew-recruits-yet-another-mcu-alumni-for-star-wars-directorial-duties/ <![CDATA[Parker Whitmore]]> Wed, 05 Apr 2023 17:57:36 +0000 <![CDATA[Celebrities]]> <![CDATA[Movies]]> <![CDATA[News]]> <![CDATA[TV]]> <![CDATA[Disney Plus]]> <![CDATA[Everything Everywhere All at Once]]> <![CDATA[Skeleton Crew]]> <![CDATA[The Daniels]]> <![CDATA[Thunderbolts]]> https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/?p=1465152 <![CDATA[
We can hardly keep track of all the creatives connecting themselves to 'Skeleton Crew.']]>
<![CDATA[

Star Wars continues to churn out new stories at an incredible clip, and as shows like The Mandalorian, Andor, or Tales of the Jedi find their niche — one new series looks to repeat their success. Following a group of children lost in space, Skeleton Crew exists as an original coming-of-age tale.

Starring Jude Law, this series is entirely new territory for the folks at Lucasfilm, and we can hardly wait. Sadly, though, not much else is known about the plot or cast of Skeleton Crew. Like so many of their projects, Disney has remained fairly tight-lipped, and odds are we won’t find out much more until the show airs on Disney Plus later this year.

Still, as more and more information is slowly released, the list of talent attached is truly astounding. Created by Jon Watts (responsible for Marvel’s Spider-Man trilogy) and Chris Ford (writer of Spider-Man: Homecoming), Skeleton Crew has also tagged Green Knight director David Lowery to helm at least one episode. Color us impressed.

Even amongst all that fanfare, yet another MCU collaborator has ed the fray. Jake Schreier, the man responsible for Marvel’s movie Thunderbolts, has been officially connected to direct. The masters Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau find themselves producing the series, and if you needed more confirmation that Skeleton Crew was going to be one of a kind — Everything Everywhere All at Once directors, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, filmed at least one episode as well. With so many creatives attached to this project, we’ve started to lose track.

This level of cross-pollination between the MCU and that galaxy far, far away is certainly compelling. Whether or not it will be good for the overall direction of either property still remains to be seen. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we’ve got a new episode of The Mandalorian to watch — and it’s a doozy.

Yet more behind-the-scenes chaos at Lucasfilm as Damon Lindelof said to have already walked out on 'The Rise of Skywalker' sequel.]]>
<![CDATA[

Once again, we’re on the eve of a new episode of The Mandalorian. Since The Rise of Skywalker, Star Wars has made itself a comfortable home on Disney Plus, with multiple series under its belt and others in various stages of production for release over the next year or so.

But while Lucasfilm has its TV production pipeline down to fine art, the same can’t be said about Star Wars on the big screen. At times, it’s looking like there might be some kind of Star Wars curse, as multiple movies are announced with a blaze of publicity only to never make it out of the development stage.

Recent casualties include Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron and Kevin Feige’s movie, which didn’t even get as far as having an official name. That can be added to a teetering pile of failed projects including Game of Thrones‘ David Benioff and D.B. Weiss movie, James Mangold’s Boba Fett, and a canceled Obi-Wan Kenobi trilogy from Stephen Daldry. And now, if this report is to be believed, yet another project is in trouble.

Damon Lindelof may have already departed ‘Star Wars’ under mysterious circumstances 3618v

It’s accepted knowledge that Disney is getting antsy that it’s been four years since The Rise of Skywalker and there’s been no cinematic Star Wars release. Lost creator Damon Lindelof’s project was supposed to fill that gap, with him teaming up with writer Justin Britt-Gibson to deliver a movie picking up where the sequel trilogy left off. Word was it’d feature at least some returning sequel trilogy characters, though wasn’t envisaged as a continuation of the Skywalker Saga and wouldn’t be ‘Episode X’.

This movie may now be in dire straits, as Above the Line is reporting that the pair turned in a script in mid-February and then quit the project days later. Now Lucasfilm has hired a new writer for the movie, though there are no clues as to their identity:

If you’ll permit us to read between the lines a little, it seems fairly clear that Disney and Lucasfilm hated Lindelof and Britt-Gibson’s proposed story so much that they didn’t see any point in providing script notes and simply squelched the whole project. We’re now very curious about what was in this story that was so objectionable, though as yet, there’s no comment from either party on what really went down.

It’s worth underlining that the movie is still going ahead under Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, with tentative production and release dates of February 2024 and December 2025 respectively. But let’s face it, we’ve seen plans and release dates from Lucasfilm before, so let’s just treat this as a best-case scenario. Either way, we suspect there’s going to be more internal chaos at Disney before a new movie emerges.

We wait nervously to find out if Taika Waititi’s Star Wars movie will actually go ahead.

‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ directors secretly signed up for ‘Skeleton Crew’ 643h14

Fresh from a dazzling round of Oscars success, it’s emerged that Everything Everywhere All at Once directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert signed on to direct at least one episode of Disney Plus show Skeleton Crew (via One Take News). The show comes from MCU Spider-Man director Jon Watts, will be set around the time as The Mandalorian, is described as a “coming of age story” inspired by The Goonies, and will star Jude Law.

The Skeleton Crew shoot began in September 2022 and wrapped on Jan. 22, so Kwan and Scheinert have presumably quietly completed filming of their episode and it’s now in post. Scoring the Daniels (as they’re collectively known) on the eve of their Oscars success is something of a coup for Lucasfilm, though we wonder if they’ll be allowed to bring some of the same offbeat energy to Star Wars.

Skeleton Crew is scheduled for release on Disney Plus sometime in 2023, so expect to see more on this show when Star Wars Day rolls around on May 4.

Ashley Eckstein reveals how ‘The Clone Wars’ ditched Ahsoka’s unwanted boyfriend 5a1b4a

Ahsoka Tano was once planned to have a boyfriend in season 7 of The Clone Wars, with the character apparently even receiving voice acting before being cut. Eckstein dropped the bomb about Ahsoka’s love life in a recent appearance at the Emerald City Comic Con (via The Direct), confirming that he was called Nyx Okami and that she “wasn’t super crazy about” it.

In the end, Okami was replaced by the Martez sisters and Okami didn’t make it to screens. Here’s how Eckstein tells it:

“I think they made everything that I recorded, because they did adjust it, but the episodes with Trace, and Rafa, and the Martez sisters, that was originally an arc with… Ahsoka had a boyfriend and his name was Nyx Okami. And so yeah, it was originally that arc, so we essentially just remade it, and they changed it to the Martez sisters, which I have to say, I was very glad they changed it to the Martez sisters, because Ahsoka didn’t have time for a boyfriend. I wasn’t super crazy about that.”

Dave Filoni has previously mentioned Okami, saying Ahsoka would have first encountered him in the Coruscant underground, and that he imagined him as a Han Solo-style rogue. The aim was to show a more emotional and personable side to Ahsoka in more relaxed situations, though we’re glad they decided to ditch Okami and replace him with the Martez sisters.

That’s all for today’s update, meaning it’s now time to stoke the hype fires for tomorrow’s new episode of The Mandalorian. After the third episode took an unexpected detour to Coruscant to catch up with Dr. Pershing, we have no idea where we’re going next. However, smart money says we’ll see Bo-Katan trying to fit in with Din Djarin’s Mandalorian cell and hopefully a reveal of why Pershing’s mind had to be wiped clean. We also suspect the return of Giancarlo Esposito’s Moff Gideon isn’t too far away…
