And drops a recent history lesson while he's at it. ]]>

California Governor Gavin Newsom didn’t hold back when responding to Stephen Miller’s incendiary X post accusing Los Angeles officials of “handing over your streets” to “insurrectionist mobs” and labeling the city a “criminal sanctuary” filled with “illegal alien invaders, cartel killers, foreign terrorists, transnational gangs.” 4a594g

Miller raged, “When our courageous ICE officers… came under violent organized attack you and the LA Mayor left them… to fend for themselves.” He added, “You still refuse to arrest and prosecute the arsonists, seditionists and insurrectionists.” In other words: “Just so you know, L.A. is falling apart.” Miller ranted that Newsom’s “istration is fighting to save the city,” but failed to act.

Newsom’s legendary clapback? “The only people defending insurrectionists are you and @realDonaldTrump,” he wrote on X—then pulled the rug out with: “Or, are we pretending like you didn’t pardon 1,500 of them?” Ouch.

Behind the scenes: Trump’s January 6 pardons b3e3c

Let’s rewind: On January 20, 2025 (his inauguration day), Donald Trump issued pardons or commutations for around 1,500 January 6 rioters, including leaders of the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers. He dismissed the attack on police as a very minor incident in a Fox News interview.

Critics slammed the pardons as a direct signal to radical groups, as if to say, “If you act on my behalf, you’re untouchable.” Newsom and others labeled it a mockery of justice, and Newsom’s jab proves the point.

What’s igniting L.A. now? ICE raids and protests 5cy70

Fast forward to June 2025: Federal ICE carried out raids across L.A., arresting dozens, some of whom were minors, and triggering protests that some officials described as peaceful, others called “violent insurrections.”

Trump responded by federalizing the National Guard without California’s consent, deploying nearly 2,000 troops and warning of Marines if things got worse. Tom Homan, Trump’s Border Czar, even accused local leaders of fanning the flames.

Newsom, meanwhile, called the move “unlawful,” “unconstitutional,” and “authoritarian,” and sued Trump and the DoD—emphasizing that L.A.’s law enforcement had cooled things down before federal troops rolled in.

Political tension: Newsom vs Trump 374q4l

This showdown isn’t just about L.A.—it’s political theater. Trump’s heavy-handed tactics, including calling local protests “insurrections” and threatening to arrest Newsom, echo his history of labeling political opposition as enemies. The Governor’s lawsuit and rhetoric underscore the larger battle over state sovereignty, the Constitution, and Trump’s ambitions. Newsom is positioning himself as the state’s defender, and Trump as the chaos-loving authoritarian.

This clash strikes multiple chords: Trump’s January 6 pardons, the federal militarization of L.A., and how state governments can—or should—stand up to federal overreach. It’s a juicy combo of justice, local rights, and national politics, tied together by a top-tier Newsom zinger.

<![CDATA[

The United States Marine Corps is an expeditionary force primarily designed for combat, so it’s a dark day for the nation when they’re deployed by Donald Trump against ordinary Americans. Marines being deployed on U.S. soil isn’t unheard of, but in recent history they’re generally tasked with disaster relief in the wake of natural disasters.

That means Trump mobilizing 700 marines onto the streets of Los Angeles to battle civilians is yet more proof that America is in deep trouble. Even the LAPD has sounded a note of extreme caution over the arrival of the Marines, saying that they’re not coordinated with police movements and so represent a “significant logistical and operational challenge”.

California Governor Gavin Newsom is horrified at Washington effectively declaring war on California with a military incursion. Taking to X, he praised the Marines as serving a “valuable purpose” to the country but underlined that “they are not political pawns.”

Newsom argues that: “The Secretary of Defense is illegally deploying them onto American streets so Trump can have a talking point at his parade this weekend. It’s a blatant abuse of power. We will sue to stop this. The Courts and Congress must act. Checks and balances are crumbling. This is a red line — and they’re crossing it. WAKE UP!”

Provoke and violently respond 1g6368

It’s fairly clear what Trump is trying to do, and Newsom called it out in a statement. The ICE raids that snatched away people’s friends, family, and co-workers were intentionally aggressive and violent, designed to inflame existing tensions against ICE. They knew protests would erupt and, as Newsom explained, the aim was to intentionally cause chaos on the streets.

A few agent provocateurs in the crowd, a bit of property damage, and Trump has his justification to send in the military to stamp out the disobedience. Other states will be nervously watching as California becomes an explicit warning of what’ll happen to any state that dares to stand against the Trump regime.

Many on social media say these events sound like the beginning of a second civil war. Ordinarily, talk like that is overly dramatic, but with Trump unleashing the Marines on the residents of Los Angeles, who knows?

He is knowingly abusing his power.]]>
<![CDATA[

Donald Trump’s decision to bring in the National Guard to quell the protests in L.A. have been criticized by people across the country. While he may try to justify it, Trump’s own words from five years ago have come back to haunt him.

A viral video from sometime around 2020 shows Trump answering questions about restoring law and order to the country. Responding to the interviewer Trump triumphantly claimed that he had restored order, “except in Democrat run cities.”

The National Guard was deployed in L.A. over the weekend, a move which has been branded as “dangerous” by experts. The decision was made in response to anti-ICE protests which had erupted across the city. According to Donald of the past, he could not do anything as he was unable to call in the National Guard unless the local governor had specifically asked him to.

“We have laws, we have to go by the laws. We can’t move in the National Guard, I can call insurrection but there’s no reason to ever do that even in the Portland case. We can’t call in the National Guard unless we’re requested by a governor.”

So it seems Trump was well aware of the law and more than happy to follow it back then. But the current Donald would never let something as insignificant as the law get in his way. Despite California governor Gavin Newsom making it clear that he did not give approval for the National Guard to be sent to L.A., Trump has done so anyway.

Donald Trump has commandeered the National Guard 301o6b

Newsom accused the president of commandeering the National Guard, calling it “illegal and immoral.” The California governor also vowed to sue Trump while the president has threatened to have him arrested.

Of course Trump likely doesn’t care for what the law says. He probably doesn’t even care for what he said five years ago either. He’s shown multiple times that he lacks principles and integrity and the worst part is people will defend this behavior. Trump hid behind the law as an excuse for his actions back in 2020 because it suited him then. Now that the law no longer serves his purpose he’s happy to cast it aside.

On X many called out the president’s current involvement in the L.A. protests. One indvidual called out the president for being a hypocrite, but that’s not exactly a surprise for Donald Trump any more.

Even Bernie Sanders chimed in as he offered a grave warning claiming that Trump’s deployment of the National Guard “is about expanding his never-ending grasp for more power. It is about moving this country toward authoritarianism.”

Ultimately it seems as though Trump is knowingly ignoring the laws. The interview from 2020 proves that he is aware that what he’s doing is a gross misuse of his power, and yet he’s doing it anyway.

We’re guessing that the of the National Guard and Marine Corps have conflicting feelings about being ordered to wage war on American citizens. They signed up to protect their country, and here they are, strolling down the streets of Los Angeles with the ‘enemy’, their fellow Americans.

But this is precisely what Donald Trump wants, and he’s using military force against ordinary citizens as a show of power: this is what will happen to you if you resist your friends, family, and co-workers being suddenly snatched by masked ICE goons in tactical gear.

As you might imagine, California Governor Gavin Newsom is furious that the President has ordered troops onto his streets and has already vowed to launch legal action defending the principle of states’ rights. It should be underlined that the President ordering troops onto domestic streets is extraordinarily rare, with the last time way back in 1965 when LBJ used them to protect civil rights marches.

Logistical failure 4w4734

But, as with all things to do with the Trump istration, they talk a big game but always forget about the details. In this instance, nobody considered where 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines would be quartered in Los Angeles. After all, the Third Amendment of the Constitution expressly forbids “the quartering of soldiers in private homes without the owner’s consent”.

All of which is why Trump’s troops are curled up in a dank and dingy warehouse with no amenities and forced to sleep on a damp concrete floor. Newsom highlighted this shabby treatment on X: saying “You sent your troops here without fuel, food, water or a place to sleep” and that “If anyone is treating our troops disrespectfully,” it’s Donald Trump.

Tellingly, MAGA’s defence is that this is normal for soldiers “at war”. So, I guess there you have it, Trump is now at war with the state of California, a conflict he is intentionally escalating and provoking. When the dust settles, the message to ordinary Americans will be clear: dissent against the Trump regime will not be tolerated, and if there is any other mass protest against him, expect it to end with citizens staring down the barrel of a soldier’s rifle.

The next flashpoint will be his multi-million-dollar North Korea-style birthday parade this coming weekend. Protests are expected, but at this point, we wouldn’t be surprised if soldiers attacked those involved, arrested en masse, and tossed them into some extrajudicial hellhole.

In a shocking escalation of federal-state conflict, President Donald Trump suggested that California Governor Gavin Newsom should be arrested.

The incendiary remark came amid ongoing protests in Los Angeles sparked by controversial ICE raids and Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops. Newsom declared Trump’s acts “illegal” and vowed to challenge them in court.

Why Trump is targeting Newsom 4y4n2y

The clash has deep roots in immigration politics. Following ICE-led raids in Los Angeles targeting undocumented individuals, massive protests erupted. Federal authorities responded with tear gas, rubber bullets, and mass arrests. Trump accused local leaders of being “weak” and failing to protect federal officers. Trump also portrayed demonstrators as “professional agitators” and “insurrectionists” who “should be in jail.”

On June 7, Trump ordered approximately 2,000 National Guard to Los Angeles. That’s an unprecedented act since 1965 that byed state permission. This prompted Newsom and state Attorney General Rob Bonta to file a lawsuit accusing Trump of unlawfully federalizing California’s National Guard in violation of the Posse Comitatus Act.

Trump doubles down on arrest rhetoric 6g4e72

Trump didn’t stop at troop deployment. As Axios reports, when asked if White House if border czar Tom Homan should arrest Newsom, Trump replied bluntly, “I would do it if I were Tom. I think it’s great. Gavin likes the publicity…he’s done a terrible job.”

Perhaps most surprising of all, Trump added that while Newsom is “a nice guy,” he is also “grossly incompetent” and deserves to be arrested for his handling of the crisis.

Newsom’s defiant reaction 4m2c2i

Unimpressed, Governor Newsom took to X to strike back: “The President of the United States just called for the arrest of a sitting Governor. This is a day I hoped I would never see in America. … this is an unmistakable step toward authoritarianism.”

In this moment, Newsom framed Trump’s demand as an alarming threat to democratic norms, warning that any president using federal power to criminalize a state governor crosses a dangerous line.

The situation in Los Angeles 1h4s1c

Los Angeles has become a hotbed of protest. ICE raids followed by harsh crackdown—tear gas, rubber bullets, and multiple arrests—ignited anger among immigrant communities, local leaders, and civil rights advocates. Reports indicate that at least 100 protesters were detained and several officers injured as tensions boiled over.

Mayor Karen Bass echoed Newsom’s condemnation, describing these tactics as terrorizing to LA’s immigrant communities and decrying the federal response as unjustified and inflammatory.

What’s next? 1s1z2q

California is set to sue the federal government to block Trump’s troop deployment and take legal action over the unprecedented National Guard federalization. Newsom and the state’s legal team argue that Trump’s actions overstep constitutional bounds.

Meanwhile, the political tone has shifted dramatically. A president suggesting a governor’s arrest represents a troubling pivot toward authoritarianism—one that Newsom and others warn could endanger the very principle of state sovereignty.

California Governor Gavin Newsom’s istration has declared the Trump istration’s deployment of National Guard troops to Los Angeles “unlawful,” marking a significant escalation in tensions between state and federal authorities over immigration enforcement.

According to Politico, the deployment of approximately 300 National Guard troops to Los Angeles on Sunday came as protests against immigration raids entered their third day. The move represents the first time since 1965 that a president has federalized a state’s National Guard without the governor’s approval, when President Lyndon B. Johnson sent troops to Alabama.

“We’re going to have troops everywhere,” Trump told reporters on Sunday, as his istration defended the decision to deploy forces. “We’re not going to let this country be torn apart like it was under Biden.” The deployment came in response to demonstrations that began Friday in downtown Los Angeles, following an immigration raid at a suburban Home Depot.

Tensions rise as the Defense Department considers additional military deployment 4y2i17

The situation could intensify further as the Trump istration contemplates sending 500 Marines to Los Angeles County, with Defense officials confirming that military personnel have received “prepare to deploy” orders. In a high-stakes move, Marines are reportedly being primed for an “attack on U.S. citizens” during the unrest. Meanwhile, border czar Tom Homan has warned that raids will continue daily and suggested that both Governor Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass could face arrest if they interfere with immigration enforcement.

In response to the federal intervention, Newsom’s legal affairs secretary, David Sapp, sent a letter to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth arguing that state and local police agencies had the situation under control. The letter emphasized that federal intervention would only worsen the conflict and represented a “serious breach of state sovereignty.” Against that backdrop, Newsom defiantly responded to Homan’s threats, “arrest me, tough guy”, making it clear he won’t back down.

The deployment has sparked widespread criticism from Democratic leaders across the country. Former Vice President Kamala Harris, a Los Angeles resident, characterized Trump’s action as a “dangerous escalation meant to provoke chaos.” Democratic governors united in condemning the move as an “alarming abuse of power,” emphasizing that governors are traditionally the commanders in chief of their National Guard units.

The situation on the ground remains tense, with protesters and law enforcement clashing during demonstrations. In one incident, law enforcement used tear gas on protesters who approached National Guard troops, though the specific agency responsible for deploying the tear gas remains unclear. Demonstrators have been seen blocking major roadways, waving Mexican flags, and holding signs in protest of the immigration enforcement actions.

The current crisis has effectively ended a brief period of cooperation between Trump and Newsom, which had emerged during Trump’s recent visit to Los Angeles following the fires. As the situation continues to develop, Governor Newsom has traveled to Los Angeles to meet with local officials and receive briefings from law enforcement, highlighting the growing significance of this constitutional showdown between state and federal authorities.

Trump ordered around 2,000 National Guard troops to be deployed.]]>
<![CDATA[

California Governor Gavin Newsom announced plans to take legal action against the Trump istration after National Guard troops were sent to Los Angeles without his approval. The deployment happened during protests that broke out following a series of immigration related arrests in Los Angeles County. Over the weekend, clashes between protesters and police led to property damage and multiple arrests.

The protests started after large-scale immigration enforcement operations on Friday, which resulted in many arrests and sparked demonstrations throughout the weekend. While some protests stayed peaceful, others turned violent. In some cases, protesters burned vehicles and threw rocks at law enforcement. In San Francisco, a peaceful protest later became chaotic, leading to sixty arrests. In Los Angeles, police reported thirty-nine arrests during the demonstrations.

Per CBS news, President Trump ordered around 2,000 National Guard troops to be deployed. This decision was made without consulting or requesting approval from Governor Newsom. The Trump istration defended the move, saying it was necessary to stop the growing violence and restore order. Officials also pointed out that some of those arrested in the operations were accused of serious crimes, including domestic abuse and child rape, as further reason for federal involvement.

Newsom to sue Trump over National Guard 4x1t4c

Governor Newsom strongly criticized the deployment, calling it an illegal and unethical misuse of federal power. He argued that state and local law enforcement had the situation under control and that the President’s actions only made tensions worse. Newsom accused the President of deliberately trying to cause more chaos and violence. He also warned that this federal order could set a dangerous precedent, allowing the National Guard to be sent to any state without the Governor’s consent.

Newsom’s lawsuit will focus on the claim that the federal government unlawfully took control of the National Guard without the state’s permission. He says this action broke long-standing rules and traditions regarding how the National Guard should be used. Newsom is going all out against the deployment.

The Governor stressed that California did not need help from the National Guard and that the President’s decision was meant to provoke conflict. In a letter to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Newsom formally asked the federal government to cancel the deployment order.

Newsom wrote, “This is exactly what Donald Trump wanted. He flamed the fires and illegally acted to federalize the National Guard. The order he signed doesn’t just apply to CA. It will allow him to go into ANY STATE and do the same thing.” He also mentioned speaking with President Trump for about forty minutes, though it is unclear whether this conversation happened before or after the deployment was announced.

The last time a president sent National Guard troops to a state without the Governor’s request was in 1965 when President Lyndon B. Johnson deployed troops to Alabama to protect civil rights marchers.

California governor defies federal threats during fiery LA immigration protests.]]>
<![CDATA[

Tensions rose quickly in Los Angeles after federal agents carried out a series of large immigration raids. The raids focused on immigrant communities and led to widespread protests, which resulted in clashes between demonstrators and police. The situation grew much more serious when President Trump sent 2,000 National Guard troops to the city, a decision that ignored and upset California state officials.

At the heart of the growing conflict is a heated argument between California Governor Gavin Newsom and the Trump istration’s border leader, Tom Homan. According to The Daily Beast, Homan issued a strong warning, “I’ll say about anybody, you cross that line; it’s a felony to knowingly harbor and conceal an illegal alien. It’s a felony to impede law enforcement doing their job.” This warning was aimed directly at Governor Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, accusing them of interfering with federal operations.

Governor Newsom responded boldly to Homan’s threat, daring him to act on it. Newsom said to NBC, “He’s a tough guy. Why doesn’t he do that? He knows where to find me. That kind of bloviating is exhausting. So, Tom, arrest me. Let’s go.” Newsom described his actions as standing up for his community and resisting what he called aggressive tactics by the federal government. He also said the situation had been made worse unnecessarily.

California governor isn’t afraid of bullying from border officials 5q406k

The protests themselves have been chaotic. Dozens of people were arrested over the weekend, and there were reports of violence, including people throwing objects at police and damaging vehicles. Newsom said he was troubled by the violence but also blamed President Trump for causing the unrest by sending National Guard troops without talking to state leaders first.

Mayor Bass, while also disagreeing with the National Guard deployment, responded more calmly. She called Homan’s threat unnecessary and said she did not want to make the conflict with the federal government worse. She stressed the importance of calming tensions and having discussions. Bass’s approach was more diplomatic compared to Newsom’s direct confrontation.

A major disagreement involves Newsom’s version of a phone call with President Trump before the National Guard was sent. Newsom said the topic of troop deployment never came up during their conversation, which directly conflicts with the istration’s actions. Newsom said “We talked for almost 20 minutes, and he barely — this issue never came up, we had a very decent conversation.”

He accused the president of lying and misrepresenting their discussion. The disagreement shows how badly communication and cooperation between state and federal leaders have broken down.

So, what’s the takeaway here? For one, don’t believe everything you read on Truth Social. ]]>
<![CDATA[

President Donald Trump has once again been caught rewriting reality to suit his narrative.

Trump took to Truth Social late on June 7 to commend the National Guard for their “great job” restoring order in the city, while lambasting California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass as incompetent leaders. The only problem? The National Guard hadn’t even arrived yet, according to Newsom.

Governor Newsom, never shy about challenging Trump’s claims, quickly refuted the former president’s statement. On June 8, Newsom posted on X: “For those keeping track, Donald Trump’s National Guard had not been deployed on the ground when he posted this.” On Saturday, June 7, protests broke out in Los Angeles following immigration raids that saw over 40 people arrested. The demonstrations turned volatile near a Home Depot in Paramount, where federal agents deployed flash-bang grenades, tear gas, and pepper spray while protesters hurled rocks and cement at vehicles.

In response to the unrest, Trump signed a memorandum to deploy 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles. However, this move marked a rare and controversial step: Trump byed the state’s governor and activated the National Guard without Newsom’s consent. This was the first time since 1965—when President Lyndon B. Johnson sent federal troops to Alabama to protect civil rights demonstrators—that a president had unilaterally activated a state’s National Guard.

Trump’s decision to intervene unilaterally raises significant questions about the balance of power between states and the federal government. Typically, the National Guard operates under the control of state governors unless the president invokes the Insurrection Act, a law dating back to 1807 that allows federal troops to be deployed domestically in extreme cases of civil unrest.

Trump’s post on Truth Social fits a broader pattern of self-aggrandizement and misinformation. In his June 7 post, he credited the National Guard with calming two days of unrest, even though they had not yet arrived. He also blamed the violence on “Radical Left instigators” and “paid troublemakers,” a familiar trope in Trump’s rhetoric that often serves to delegitimize protests.

Trump’s post went further, bizarrely banning masks at protests: “Masks will NOT BE ALLOWED to be worn at protests. What do these people have to hide, and why???” While the comment was likely intended to frame protesters as suspicious or criminal, it also reveals a lack of understanding about protest dynamics, where masks are often worn for safety reasons, particularly when tear gas is in play.

California reportedly pays over $80 billion more to the state than it gets back.]]>
<![CDATA[

The growing tension between California and the federal government has reached fever pitch, with Governor Gavin Newsom going on record to say he’s even considering withholding tax payments from the state.

President Trump is reportedly weighing “large-scale” funding cancellations in California. According to POLITICO, the Trump istration isn’t acting in a vacuum — it’s using federal funding as a leveraging tactic. We’ve already seen this tactic in play with how Trump treated PBS and Harvard University.

But now, Trump has expanded the scope. There’s talk of a potential full termination of federal grants to all universities in California. Research funding, student aid — all of it could be affected by this latest move. And this isn’t out of the blue. Trump is reportedly using the potential cuts to pressure the state over laws — particularly those regarding trans athletes. But Newsom isn’t rolling over. In fact, he issued a biting response.

He took to Trump’s frenemy’s site, X, and gave Trump yet another thing to worry about. Newsom suggested that California could withhold tens of billions of dollars in taxes. The governor cited research from the Rockefeller Institute, which shows that California pays far more in federal taxes than it gets back — what’s formally called a “donor state.” Reportedly, in 2022, California paid $83 billion more to the federal government than it got in return. On X, Newsom boldly suggested, “maybe it’s time we cut that off.”

Federal taxes are mostly collected through the IRS from individuals and corporations — they don’t simply flow from the state in a way that Newsom could just cut off directly, as he made it seem. So this should probably be read as Newsom making a strong political statement. He’s been very clear about his intent to stand up to an increasingly chaotic president. This is, above all else, about the message.

The White House apparently heard the threat. When asked about Newsom’s comments and the plan to cut off funding to California, officials said that no final decisions had been made. However, the White House did take the opportunity to criticize the state’s policies — calling them anti-energy, pro-sanctuary, soft on crime, and pro–child mutilation. They labeled California a “nightmare” and reiterated their goal of forcing the state to realize the “Californian dream.”

Gavin Newsom’s name has been floated as a presidential hopeful. This show of strength — standing up to MAGA and forcing a retreat — could certainly bolster his national appeal. Still, it’s worth noting that Newsom has been pragmatic in his dealings with the Trump istration. While the public may focus on the sparring and theater, behind the scenes it’s a different story. Newsom has reached out to the White House during crises — including the LA fires — and has actively worked with them to help maintain Hollywood as the epicenter of the film industry.

They clash over policies, disagree on tariffs, cooperate during disasters, and negotiate when industry is on the line. It’s messy — but also, politics as usual. Newsom may not be perfect, but he’s showing Democrats a strong and strategic approach to dealing with Trump.

Newsom's own words may come back to haunt him. ]]>
<![CDATA[

In a fiery post on Truth Social, President Donald Trump launched into a transphobic tirade directed at California Governor Gavin Newsom, whom he mockingly referred to as “Newscum.”

Trump condemned the state’s policies on transgender athletes and issued a controversial directive threatening to withhold federal funding unless California complies with federal standards, as he interprets them, regarding women’s sports.

“Large scale Federal Funding will be held back” 6n2q5k

The post came in response to recent headlines involving a transgender athlete who won multiple events at a major high school track competition in California. The athlete, a trans girl who had previously competed as a male without distinction, dominated several races, qualifying for the state finals. Critics argue that her physical advantages create an uneven playing field, reigniting the nationwide debate over transgender inclusion in women’s sports.

Trump declared that “California, under the leadership of Radical Left Democrat Gavin Newscum, continues to ILLEGALLY allow ‘MEN TO PLAY IN WOMEN’S SPORTS.’” He cited the recent athletic victory as an example of the “unfairness,” claiming that as a male the athlete was “less than average,” but “practically unbeatable” now in girls’ events. “THIS IS NOT FAIR, AND TOTALLY DEMEANING TO WOMEN AND GIRLS,” Trump wrote.

He then upped the ante, warning that “large scale Federal Funding will be held back, maybe permanently, if the Executive Order on this subject matter is not adhered to.”

Most provocatively, Trump claimed that Governor Newsom “himself said it is ‘UNFAIR,’” referencing a statement Newsom made during a recent podcast interview. Newsom told Charlie Kirk on Newsom’s podcast, “It’s an issue of fairness.”

Newsom added, “I completely agree with you on that… It’s easy to call out the unfairness of that. There’s also a humility and a grace. You know that these poor people are more likely to commit suicide, have anxiety and depression and the way that people talk down to vulnerable communities is an issue that I have a hard time with as well.”

Newsome continued, “So both things I can hold in my hand. How can we address this issue with the kind of decency that I think you know is inherent in you">Trump orders local authorities “get involved”

Despite Newsom’s nuanced position, Trump seized on the word “unfair” as an ission of fault and used it as justification to intervene directly. “I will speak to him today to find out which way he wants to go,” Trump said. “In the meantime I am ordering local authorities, if necessary, to not allow the transitioned person to compete in the State Finals. This is a totally ridiculous situation!!!”

Trump’s directive to “local authorities” has no binding legal power, but it reflects the increasingly aggressive posture of right-wing leaders toward transgender rights. Conservative lawmakers in multiple states have ed laws barring transgender athletes from participating in girls’ and women’s sports, claiming competitive imbalance and safety concerns.

LGBTQ+ advocacy groups have condemned Trump’s comments as dangerous and dehumanizing. “Trans youth deserve to play sports like any other kid,” said a spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign. “Trump’s rhetoric escalates discrimination and puts real people at risk.”

As the transgender athlete prepares to compete in the California State Finals, the spotlight intensifies not just on her performance but on a political battleground that extends far beyond the track.

Newsom pushes for a statewide homeless encampment ban.]]>
<![CDATA[

California Governor Gavin Newsom has stepped up his efforts to tackle the state’s homelessness problem by once again urging cities and counties to ban homeless camps on public property. This move follows an earlier executive order that required state agencies to clear camps from state land and now encourages local governments to do the same.

The governor made this announcement at the same time as releasing $3.3 billion in Proposition 1 funding, which is set aside to create more housing and treatment options for people who are homeless or struggling with mental illness. This new funding comes on top of the $27 billion the state has already committed to fighting homelessness, per AP News.

Newsom shared a sample law for local governments to use as a guide when creating their own rules about homeless encampments. The model law suggests banning long-term camping in one spot and preventing camps that block sidewalks or walkways. However, it also says that officials must try to offer shelter options before clearing any temporary living spaces, as reported by Reuters.

The city of Los Angeles already has rules in place that ban encampments within 500 feet of schools and daycare centers and prevent camping within five feet of doorways or in ways that block wheelchair access.

The governor’s proposal has received both and criticism. Some see it as a needed step to improve public safety and take back public spaces, while homeless advocates argue that the state does not have enough ive housing or shelter space to house everyone who would be forced out of encampments. These advocates say the proposed bans ignore the real causes of homelessness, such as the lack of affordable housing and California’s high cost of living.

The legal situation around encampment bans changed after a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that said it is legal to ban public camping, even if there is not enough shelter available. This decision allowed 42 of California’s 482 cities and two of its 58 counties to camping bans. This trend is happening across the country, with about 160 cities and counties nationwide adopting similar rules. The Supreme Court’s ruling played a big role in shaping the governor’s plan and the model law he proposed.

On the other hand, conservative groups like the Cicero Institute are pushing for even stricter measures. They want California to laws that would let the state sue cities if they do not do enough to handle encampment problems. They argue this would make sure cities take responsibility for protecting both homeless residents and the general public. This viewpoint stresses the need for stronger enforcement and ability at the local level.

Governor Newsom’s plan to address homelessness includes multiple strategies, such as putting more money into housing and treatment programs while taking a harder stance on public encampments.
