Ginny & Georgia just landed on Netflix, and already, before some can even check out all the episodes, fans online have quickly binged the entire season and are clamoring for answers on a potential new season.

Good news: Season 4 is a go. Confirmed by Netflix itself — can’t get more official than that. In fact, in Feb., the renewal had already confirmed that the show will be back for at least one more season. Ginny & Georgia is already one of their best-performing titles — and now climbing to just best overall.

Creator of the series Sarah Lampert was the first one with the good news for fans, with a post that showed a Zoom call screenshot of the writers’ room. The caption of the photo read: “First day of the season 4 writer’s room!!! Based on today alone, season 4 is going to be a RIDE.”

In the comments of the post were fans showing relief that that means they probably won’t have to wait long for a new season. One commented, “Oh thank god ur already on to season 4 we won’t have to wait too long this time.” Which is certainly a worry, considering shows these days have disappointed fans with multiple-year waits just for a season with a short 9 episodes. But considering this news — and the run of shows like The Bear being closely knit — we might truly finally be back.

There’s no official release date as of this moment. But if you look at Season 3—which ends on one of the show’s biggest cliffhangers yet — it’s clear Ginny & Georgia is hitting its high gears with no intention of slowing down. It wouldn’t be shocking if Season 4 is right around the corner. The cat’s out of the bag now: Georgia might be pregnant! This sets up some big mysteries for Season 4 that go far beyond the pregnancy itself. Is it Paul? Or is it the beloved Joe?

On social media, there are already reactions that split the discussion into two; some fans are claiming that the show has always been about how Joe was Georgia’s one true love all along. Season 4 will no doubt majorly focus on Georgia’s love triangle. The stakes are now raised as high as possible. But the kids went through a tough time too. Marcus ended the season being sent to rehab. The fans want him to get better, obviously. But there are also some lingering issues there with Max. The show will probably dig into that sibling betrayal. The entire cast of the show will be busy for the season.

Everything is pointing toward the supposition that Ginny & Georgia can’t afford a 2-year break this time around. The suspense can only hold in fans’ minds for so long before they find something else to care about. And we haven’t even mentioned Ginny. Throughout the entire season, she’s been getting involved in more and more morally grey decisions to protect Georgia. And Ginny is also separating with Georgia to spend time with Zion.

The season will have so much to bite and so many shifted dynamics and loyalties. And the kids are also finally coming to their own.

If there’s one thing the internet agrees on, it’s this: we’re all a little too obsessed with emotionally unavailable teenage boys in TV dramas. Case in point? A viral X post that’s got Ginny & Georgia season 3 fans absolutely losing it over their favorite “depressed lover boy” characters.

In the post, @lifesatamasha compares Marcus from Ginny & Georgia to Conrad from The Summer I Turned Pretty, writing: “conrad is exactly the long lost brother of marcus from ginny and georgia… what’s with me liking all of these depressed lover boys?? ” Comment showed up for the depressed lover boy flowers, one stating simply, “I love them both so much.” Same, bestie.

The post is paired with tearjerking screenshots of both characters giving devastatingly emotional monologues about how loving someone hurts too much because they don’t love themselves. Yes, we’re crying too.

Wait—what is “Ginny & Georgia” again?

For the uninitiated (where have you been?!), Ginny & Georgia is a coming-of-age Netflix dramedy that follows 15-year-old Ginny Miller and her 30-year-old mother, Georgia, as they settle in a picturesque New England town to escape Georgia’s mysterious, and let’s say… legally questionable, past.

The show balances teen angst, murder cover-ups, mental health struggles, and surprisingly sharp dialogue. Think Gilmore Girls meets Big Little Lies, but with more therapy and better lighting.

Marcus Baker, played by Felix Mallard, is Ginny’s brooding next-door neighbor and sometime-boyfriend. He spends most of his screen time staring out windows, playing guitar, and trying not to self-destruct—all while being painfully in love with Ginny. Basically, if you’ve ever said “I can fix him” out loud, Marcus is your guy.

So, what’s the deal with season 3?

Ginny & Georgia season 3 is streaming exclusively on Netflix. It picks up after the bombshell finale of season 2, where Georgia’s wedding turned into a full-blown police takedown (spoiler alert: murder charges were involved).

Engagement and completion are two fairly banal words in isolation, but they’re key when it comes to Netflix deciding which of its original shows are worthy of being renewed, and which are set to be cast onto an ever-expanding pile of abandoned originals.

The streaming service has thrown massive sums of money at effects-heavy and fantastical TV shows in the hopes they’d become the next breakout success story, but the fact almost 30 such projects have been axed since the beginning of 2020 alone indicates the misses drastically outweigh the hits.

In a damning indictment of ourselves as subscribers, though, the in-house exclusive with the highest completion rate is a dramatic comedy without a lick of CGI, set pieces, monsters, or explosions. PlumResearch (via What’s on Netflix) has crunched the numbers and determined that Ginny & Georgia has the single highest completion rate among any Netflix OG, with a 73.7 percent marker putting it a mere 0.6 percent ahead of runner-up Manifest, which was ironically canceled by NBC before finding salvation.

Not only that, but Ginny & Georgia was also bestowed with an honor that’s virtually unheard of among Netflix’s vast content catalogue; four months after season 2 premiered to critical approval and monstrous viewership figures, the series was handed a two-season renewal to guarantee it’ll last at least four runs of episodes.

The number of shows that can’t even last beyond one season is alarming to put it lightly, but maybe we’ve been the problem all along when the most-completed production in Netflix’s arsenal is a macabre character-driven story that isn’t concerned with being bold or splashy.

One of 2022’s biggest Netflix hits, Wednesday has spent its 11th week on the Netflix global top 10, with over 28 million hours viewed. Of course, it has spent every week on the charts after the series was released in November last year. 

But, even though the series has been popular it was dethroned this week, placing third on the charts. Instead, the new Netflix supernatural detective series Lockwood & Co. has managed to take the top spot with a whopping 39 million hours watched by s this week. Coming in second place, just below Lockwood & Co. at 38 million hours, is the second season of Ginny & Georgia, which was released last month.

If you are unfamiliar with any of the shows, Wednesday is the Jenna Ortega-led spinoff of The Addams Family, following the titular Wednesday Addams and her adventures in a spooky, kooky boarding school. Lockwood & Co. is based on a series of books by Jonathan Stroud, and it follows a girl named Lucy, played by Ruby Stokes, who has psychic abilities and s a detective agency that is run by two boys, George (Ali Hadji-Heshmati) and Anthony (Cameron Chapman).

Ginny & Georgia is a dramedy that follows a single mother named Georgia (Brianne Howey) and her daughter Ginny (Antonia Gentry), who along with Ginny’s brother Austin, move to a town called Wellsbury after Georgia’s husband dies. You do not have to take our word for the quality of these shows, as the audience has spoken, dedicating millions of hours to consuming Netflix’s exclusive content. 

Just because Wednesday has been dethroned it does not mean that the series will slow down any time soon, as new Jenna Ortega fans are popping up every day. It would not be too surprising to see a surge in viewership once her newest film, Scream VI, debuts in March. You have to wonder just how much longer Wednesday will stay in the top 10, as it seems to be losing roughly 10 million viewers week to week. 

It’s also worth noting that because of Wednesday’s long viewership tail, the second season of the series has the potential to rival even the first season, which broke a few different Netflix records. It might even be able to sur both Stranger Things and Squid Game to become the most-watched Netflix series of all time.

A true oddity has been discovered on the Netflix charts, with a series not only seeing its second season release without cancelation, but also topping the charts ahead of much-favored competition.

Ginny & Georgia’s second season is a rare triumph on the Netflix charts, with the darkly comedic drama somehow pipping both the science fiction original Kaleidoscope but also Wednesday to the top spot. With a staggering 180 million hours viewed in its first week, it has completely blitzed all of its competition.

The numbers are astonishing, with it seeing 70 million more hours viewed than the second-placed Kaleidoscope and 100 million more than the perennially charting Wednesday in third. Ginny & Georgia saw a middling first season critically, but clearly, the audience demand for more has been met by Netflix.

The success comes particularly poignant after the cancelations of shows such as 1899 and Warrior Nun after strong critical outings but not the same levels of viewership. Ginny & Georgia undoubtedly helped by its release only coinciding with Kaleidoscope which has relied more on word of mouth to get where it is.

Following a bizarre murder plot and a former teen mom, Ginny & Georgia had been under fire before for its perceived failure to properly handle social commentary on race. Somewhat amusingly, the series also found itself on the wrong side of Taylor Swift’s fanbase after a joke making fun of her history of relationships which was deemed to be slut-shaming.

Netflix knows a thing or two about lighting a furious fire under its subscriber base, which largely tends to revolve around the never-ending procession of hit fantasy shows the streaming service loves to cancel so much. In a highly unexpected twist, though, one of the platform’s most controversial recent originals is a relatively tame-sounding dramatic comedy.

Ginny & Georgia recently returned for its second season, with the plot picking up with the former half of the title duo reconciling with the fact her mother is a murderer. After discovering her stepfather’s death wasn’t an accident, the latter half of the equation needs to offer a maternal olive branch to ensure they can start to rebuild a fractured familial relationship, without any more revelations coming to light.

The first season scored strong viewing figures, ultimately succeeding where so many fantasy favorites did not by securing a renewal. However, it hasn’t been without backlash. The expression “Oppression Olympics” was roundly savaged when it started trending, creating an unwanted vacuum of negative publicity.

Then there was the show’s gall to openly take a shot at Taylor Swift, something that never goes down well on the internet. Interpreted as misogynistic and offensive, the musician even addressed the furor directly. Not only that, but exchanges deemed as derogatory towards Lady Gaga and Lana Del Rey led to even more fury and a sustained review-bombing campaign, which has ittedly done nothing to dent Ginny & Georgia‘s popularity if we look at its performance.

Per FlixPatrol, the sophomore run of episodes has cast aside aspersions of Twitter trolls to snag the number one spot in 58 nations around the world. While that’s no guarantee another renewal is on the cards, it’s an encouraging sign, and not being set in the fantasy genre is always a bonus when it comes to Netflix originals.

First released in February 2021, Ginny & Georgia became a fan favorite as they followed the often comedic drama of a single mother with two kids trying to find a life for herself in New England after being on the run. It’s been almost a year, but season two finally dropped, and now Twitter is going crazy over it.

Ginny is obviously the star of the show, getting the top billing and all. Played by Antonia Gentry, Ginny is Georgia’s teenage daughter who has been hustled around from place to place and would like to just settle down for once. Played by Brianne Howey, Georgia is a free spirit with a few tricks up her sleeves when it comes to manipulating situations — and a few secrets in her closet when it comes to her shady past.

Now that season two is streaming, the tweets are flying! This one is so on point, it’s scary.

Imagine having this much hatred toward Ginny, a teenager. Of course, she’s not perfect but she’s growing up with confusing information that she’s acting on the best way she can. Some fans just aren’t trying to hear all that.

This fan seems mad at everyone. While Georgia and Paul are a good couple, the series introduces Joe and Zion as other love interests that could possibly take the story in another direction. Of course, dramas aren’t any good without the twists and turns they provide, but they don’t make every fan happy.

Who is being neglected? The story has two names in the title, but there are three people in that family. Austin seems to be missing out on so much, like the therapy he needs to catch up in this world and try to move on with some kind of semblance of good health.

It’s a comedy. Fans would do better by reminding themselves of that. Don’t let the details of the drama trigger deep psychological trauma.

While Marcus is getting lots of love, Ginny is continually taking a beating. Fans say she’s insufferable and that might be because she looks at her mother negatively for the mistakes she’s made. But she got them where they are. and Ginny doesn’t give her the credit she deserves, nor does she know how to care about how anyone else feels.

Without spoilers, these are just some of the ups and downs fans have to look forward to in season two. It’s been a long time coming but Ginny & Georgia is streaming now on Netflix!
