Justin Bieber is making no effort to quash the speculations about his allegedly dying marriage to his wife, Hailey Baldwin. If anything, he’s making things worse, especially with his latest eyebrow-raising social media activity. Apparently, the singer felt the need to flirt with another well-known artist, and he did so in a very public manner that there’s intense buzz yet again about a possible divorce between him and his model wife.

Just recently, the 30-year-old pop singer was caught gushing over actress Keke Palmer‘s Instagram post, which featured a photo of the latter rocking a white crop top, low-rise beige pants, and a silk Burberry scarf. Bieber allegedly wrote on the photo, “She said I’m poppin out [heart-eyes emoji],” but then the comment quickly disappeared. However, Comments by Celebs was able to immortalize it with a screenshot. Also, even though the comment is no longer available, Bieber’s “like” remained, and it didn’t go unnoticed by eagle-eyed fans.

Bieber’s gesture quickly prompted several reactions from his fans and casual IG s on Comments by Celebs’ post. “He’s always showing so much love to other girls in the comments,” one wrote, while another suggested, “Justin Bieber already trynna move on from Hailey.”

In January, JB and Baldwin, 28, caused a huge commotion online after some people noticed that the former had unfollowed the latter on Instagram, sparking speculations that there could be trouble in paradise. However, the “Peaches” singer quickly shut down the assumptions by addressing the issue directly on his IG , saying someone had hacked into his and unfollowed his wife.

But even before the unfollowing incident, there was already a bit of chatter online on how the couple, who welcomed their baby boy, Jack Blues Bieber, in August, appeared to be throwing cryptic posts against each other on social media. The purported online “war” between the two started when Bieber shared Jacquees’ “B.E.D.,” a song about a man uninterested in serious romance. The digital cold war escalated with more pointed song choices until Baldwin ended it with SZA’s “30 for 30,” featuring the icy lyric, “But if it’s f* me, then f* you.”

Many interpreted the bizarre musical exchange as a ive-aggressive marital spat, while others speculated it was just a PR stunt for Bieber’s music. However, it did not help when the Rhode Beauty founder seemingly rushed to her BFF Kendall Jenner’s side sometime in January to have an all-girls getaway with their other pals in Aspen, Colorado. Nevertheless, before it could even cause another wave of split rumors, it was revealed that Bieber was also in Aspen at the time, but he was mostly spending time with his friends.

But now Bieber is back to causing more drama. It’s not clear what he was trying to prove or achieve with his peculiar comment on the 31-year-old actress’ post, but it is worth noting that the two have a history of expressing iration for each other publicly, according to the Daily Mail. The Nope star has spoken highly of Bieber over the years, calling him “such a sweet guy” and “very charming.” Their friendship even led to a 2022 appearance on Baldwin’s YouTube series, Who’s In My Bathroom?, where the two women bonded over snickerdoodle cookies and a spelling bee.

With Palmer newly single following her split from Darius Jackson in late 2023, and Bieber seemingly stirring the pot with his online antics, fans are left wondering if his comment was just him trying to be friendly or something more.

The buddy film is one of the most vicious undertakings any filmmaker can find themselves in. It offers more than enough freedom in the realm of premise, be it grounded (Planes, Trains, and Automobiles) or madcap (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas), but it’s not always the easiest task to create a story that allows your two leads to thrive without overshadowing each other. And in some cases, it can be dangerously alluring to lean on the sparkly-but-rickety novelty of two celebrities playing off of each other in a quirky situation (see: anything with Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart).

One of Them Days — the feature screenwriting debut of Rap Sh!t mastermind Syreeta Singleton — doesn’t fall into either of these traps, but that’s unfortunately less to do with the immaculately paired Keke Palmer and SZA (in her feature film debut) and more to do with the film’s refusal to build itself around them whatsoever. Indeed, there’s a scrumptious wisdom to the world of One of Them Days that’s tragically absent in the way that it’s approached, and despite the somewhat-contagious fun that Palmer and SZA had on this set, the end result is a rather limp affair lacking in tooth, spine, and mind.

The film stars Palmer and SZA as Dreux and Alyssa, two best friends and roommates whose fortunes wind up in free-fall when Alyssa’s boyfriend Keshawn (Joshua Neal) makes off with their rent money. With just nine hours until they get evicted, the duo wrap themselves up in whatever shenanigans they can so as to keep a roof over their head by day’s end.

One of Them Days lives and dies by its adherence to unity. This is true in the context of Dreux and Alyssa as a pair, as well as the community-centric environments that the film takes place in. The snappy sass that effortlessly emanates from the two leads is most effective when Palmer and SZA are playing off of/ganging up on a third person, and there’s a recurring theme of people looking out for each other that a heartier film would have leveraged more effectively, but is a mostly welcome ingredient here nevertheless.

But the critical mistake that One of Them Days makes — and it’s hardly alone in making it — is the lack of structure in its comedy; an ironic misstep, given that unity is its greatest strength. Indeed, the film commits the great comedy sin of throwing random gags, set pieces, and quips at the audience in hopes that more will land than not.

This is a frankly unacceptable approach to cinematic comedy no matter how you swing it. Comedy operates on a level of subjectivity that’s much deeper than most any other storytelling element out there, and that volatility needs to be counteracted by a sturdy framework, which would in turn give the film more of a comedic identity.

Instead, One of Them Days takes a sort of fire-and-forget approach to its comedic beats, quickly shuffling goofs in the door and shuffling them out just as hastily, with hardly an iota of tension to them. This is not a film that’s interested in being funny; it’s a film that wants to have funny things inside of it. The problem is that it can’t decide what it believes is funny, and so runs the gamut of raunch, slapstick, antagonistic, awkward, and whatever else it can pull out of the proceedings that could plausibly appeal to some abstract sense of humor.

Similar vices litter the plot, which somehow manages to overstuff itself while simultaneously starving itself of true development, as though half of the film’s bells and whistles were dreamed up solely to hit its ittedly refreshing 97-minute runtime. Aziza Scott plays Berniece, a ruthless bully who pursues Dreux and Alyssa for a painfully contrived reason, despite the fact that this film does not need an antagonist outside of the pair’s landlord, and yet affords this character an absurd amount of screentime that adds nothing to the film itself. Also in the mix is Patrick Cage as Maniac, a man that Dreux has her eye on, and the pivot point of a romance subplot that, again, does not serve the film outside of making it longer.

Worst of all is the complete lack of adventure that permeates all of these dynamics and events. There’s no genuine hook to the already out-of-place romance subplot, Berniece is the bad guy who stays the bad guy throughout, and even Dreux and Alyssa go through the typical motions of being besties, getting mad at each other and walking away angrily, and then forgiving each other because the movie is almost over and friendship must win the day.

This would be marginally salvageable if these formulaic beats weren’t played so seriously, but even then, we’d still be left wanting. There’s no reason to doubt that these extra characters could have added nuance to the film’s clear interest in the idea of community, but that also exemplifies the film’s problem; it’s interested in ideas without being interested in how it wants to present them. To go even further, it doesn’t seem that interested in figuring out what it wants to do at all.

All in all, One of Them Days is one of those films that tries to coast by on vibes, and then proceeds to suffer the fate of films that try to coast by on vibes. The sweetness and spunk inherent to Palmer’s and SZA’s chemistry makes the film an entirely bearable ordeal, as the pair’s appeal relies on something far more genuine than a sensational odd-coupling of celebrities so often utilized by the buddy comedy genre.

And yet, it’s precisely because that chemistry is mostly lost to the film’s pejoratively chaotic plot that the failure of One of Them Days stings as much as it does. Palmer has been a consistent delight on our screens since she was a child, and SZA’s competence in front of the camera is a fascinating revelation, so why undercut this incredibly unique pairing with material that doesn’t seem to understand why it consists of the things it consists of?

Indeed, it may be far from Sony’s worst offerings, but One of Them Days made a bad fumble on a great opportunity, and that’s depressing in its own way.

SZA is eyeing a dramatic career change following her tour with Kendrick Lamar. On Jan. 4 the singer wrote on X, “To fulfill my last 2 album requirements I think I just wanna make peaceful children’s music n get outta here. Then go be a farmer n donate the produce to underserved communities.”

The singer didn’t make it clear how many albums are in her contract or when she will begin recording the final two. Her discography includes Ctrl (2017) and SOS (2022).

2025 will be an exciting year for SZA

In addition to the tour with Lamar, SZA will also make her acting debut this year. She’ll costar in the film One of Them Days alongside Keke Palmer, who told People that fans will definitely enjoy her performance.

“The world is about to be just gagged,” Palmer said. “Honestly, it’s so, so good. I really am just so proud of you and the movie. It’s all, to me, a match made in heaven.”

SZA also told the outlet she’s “trying something new” despite her own anxiety about being in a movie. She added, “I have tons of fears of being perceived on camera, talking, my voice [and] being next to Keke, who’s a superstar of so many multitudes.” The movie lands in theaters Jan. 17.

Keke Palmer recalled the pressure to be her family’s breadwinner at 12 years old

Palmer has been in the industry for a long time, having started as a child performer with big powerhouses like Disney and Nickelodeon. She became famous at 10 years old with her role in Barbershop 2: Back in Business, and continued to steadily land roles in many films and TV shows since then. She has previously addressed her responsibility to her family in an Instagram post last year (see above) and doubled down on her comments during a recent appearance on the Club Shay Shay podcast amid the release of her new book, Master of Me.

“My parents, at their best, made $40,000 a year growing up. I was making that a show,” she recalled before explaining how her parents handled the money situation. “My parents got me a business manager when I was 12,” she explained. “They wanted me to know that they weren’t the ones controlling my money.”

Palmer added, “On top of that, my parents rationed me out an allowance. They also rationed out my older sister an allowance as well.” She also revealed that, at 12 years old, she was already a millionaire. She continued that she felt like “what’s mine is theirs, and what’s theirs is mine,” but teared up when Shannon gently reminded Keke it wasn’t “normal” for a child to provide for their family. “I would do it again for my family,” Palmer said through tears.

Jackson and Palmer share a 1-year-old child. Palmer revealed to People that she had actually planned to have the child with her partner, inspired by her parents, who also carefully planned her and her siblings. However, things between the two either began to deteriorate or the damage became publicly visible after Palmer attended an Usher concert and danced with the singer on stage. Jackson immediately took to Twitter, publicly shaming Palmer and questioning whether it was appropriate for a mother to wear what she had worn that evening. 

Soon after, drama between the two started leaking to the press, with social media erupting in debate. This time, it’s none other than the beloved Keke Palmer, who recently shared stories about her experience on the set of Scream Queens.

Allegedly, it all began when one of her Scream Queens co-stars — whom Palmer refers to as “Brenda” in her memoir for anonymity — was in a heated exchange with another co-star. Trying to comfort “Brenda,” Palmer said, “Have fun and respect each other,” to which “Brenda” replied, “Keke, literally, just don’t. Who do you think you are? Martin F— Luther King?” Oh, the microaggression senses are tingling.

When asked by the LA Times who this “Brenda” was, Palmer refused to name her. “I’m not a victim. That’s not my storyline, sweetie,” she told the publication. “I don’t care what her a– said. If I allow what she said to cripple me, then she would.” While Palmer may have chosen to take the high road, her fans will surely hold the grudge on her behalf — and understandably so.

And thus, fans began to speculate on social media — and so did we. So, who might this “Brenda” be? I have a few educated guesses, but let’s first go through Palmer’s Scream Queens co-stars. The show first aired in 2015 and ran for two seasons. The satirical series—still loved to this day—was led by Emma Roberts, with recurring cast including Billie Lourd, Abigail Breslin, and, of course, Lea Michele.

At first glance, Emma Roberts’ mean-girl persona on the show made it tempting to believe there might be a hint of truth to her role — and to some extent, there is. Her list of controversies is, to put it plainly, uncomfortably long. From a domestic violence arrest to on-set accusations of transphobia, Roberts is no stranger to scandal. However, she isn’t the prime suspect here.

I raise you: Lea Michele. If you don’t Michele, she starred in Glee for seven seasons and recently made headlines for her acclaimed performance as Fanny Brice in Funny Girl. Yes, she’s talented — but it just so happens that the “she may be difficult, but boy can she sing,” Kurt Hummel quote is far more truthful than anyone might have guessed.

In a now-deleted 2020 series of tweets, former Glee cast member Samantha Marie Ware called out Michele for her hypocrisy after the Broadway star tweeted in of George Floyd. “ when you made my first television gig a living hell?!?! Cause I’ll never forget,” Ware tweeted. “I believe you told everyone that if you had the opportunity you would ‘s— in my wig!’ among other traumatic microaggressions that made me question a career in Hollywood.”

This led to a domino effect, with more former co-stars stepping forward. Yvette Nicole Brown, who worked with Michele on ABC’s The Mayor, and Alex Newell of Glee both chimed in. Transgender model Plastic Martyr claimed that Michele yelled at her in the restroom at an Emmys ceremony, and actor Dabier Snell said Michele refused to let him sit at a table with her when he guest-starred on Glee in 2014.

While we can’t say with certainty that Michele is “Brenda,” her history shows a consistent pattern of alleged discriminatory behavior. It doesn’t help that Palmer follows all her Scream Queens co-stars on social media — except Michele. Yikes.

It’s standard procedure for celebrities to write memoirs that barely scratch the surface. But Keke Palmer decided to go the exact opposite direction when she was working on her book. Journalists who read the book prior to its release initially focused on her story of dating a 20-year-old when she was just 15. Now, however, the buzz has shifted to her time on the set of Ryan Murphy’s short-lived series Scream Queens.

Keke Palmer revealed in the book that she took issue with how Ryan Murphy spoke to her regarding a miscommunication about her schedule. On a day that had been previously scheduled as an off day for Palmer, she had arranged other business commitments. But in her book, she writes that Murphy seemingly had a change of heart and ordered her to come to set regardless of their prior agreement.

When asked about the excerpt, Palmer compared that period to being “summoned to the dean’s office.” Palmer shared that Murphy “ripped into” her, calling her unprofessional and expressing that he expected better from an actor of her caliber. For Palmer, this situation was an opportunity to assert that her time is valuable and that she isn’t beholden to anyone’s disorganization. On that fateful day, despite any potential consequences, Palmer chose to fulfill her prior commitments and ignore Murphy’s tantrums, and she offered this perspective:

“I’m still not sure Ryan cared, or got it, and that’s okay because he was just centering his business, which isn’t a problem to me. But what I do know is, even if he didn’t care, and even if I never work with him again, he knows that I, too, see myself as a business.”

Furthermore, that wasn’t even where the drama on the Scream Queens set ended. Palmer shared another less-than-savory situation from that same set. Most fans may not realize this, but film sets are high-pressure environments where everyone’s nerves are heightened due to how high-stakes and expensive filming even a single scene can be, sometimes leading to conflict. This is expected. What is not expected, however, is using that tension as an excuse for racism.

Yet that is exactly what a co-star chose to do to Palmer on the Scream Queens set when she attempted to calm a conflict on set. And while Palmer names many people she’s interacted with in show business throughout the book, in this instance, she chose to give the transgressor the pseudonym “Brenda.” Palmer explained that if she had shared this person’s real name, that detail would become the focus of the conversation. For Palmer, omitting the name was also a way to deny her transgressor’s words any power. Considering how, when Rebecca Ferguson shared a horror story of being screamed at on set, the conversation quickly turned to “who” screamed at her instead of why people shouldn’t do that, Palmer’s approach makes sense. We have to agree with her on this.

Palmer has clearly, time and time again, demonstrated her talent, but with this book, she seems to be on a different journey altogether. Keke Palmer appears ready to accept nothing less than respect in her line of work. And for someone who has nearly two decades of experience, it’s about time her colleagues view her as more than someone they’re merely “doing a favor” by working with.
