Trump is fighting a battle he never had the qualification to even dream winning.]]>
<![CDATA[

Acting barely like a leader and more like a dictator who wants everything he lays eyes on, Donald Trump has spent more than half of his second term as president salivating after Canada, wanting it as America’s 51st state, and leveling tariffs against the former U.S. ally when they refused to bend. But contrary to what Trump says and what MAGA desperately wants to believe, Canada is now confident that defeating a bully like the POTUS is a done deal. 5c5j48

Mark Carney has now won the elections in Canada and officially become its Prime Minister. In case Trump was hoping to sway the current istration in his favor, his PR team better remind him how he has technically annihilated his relationship with the country and nuked any chance of recovery.

Carney has been vocal and resolute in opposing U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent trade policies and dreams of annexing Canada. In early 2025, when the MAGA leader imposed a 25% tariff on Canadian imports, including steel and aluminum, Carney condemned these tariffs as a violation of trade agreements and harmful to Canadian workers and families. He united Canada and assured that they “will not bow down to a bully.”

In the last week of March 2025, he publicly severed all ties with America, announcing in a cabinet meeting that “the old relationship we had with the United States based on deepening integration of our economies and tight security and military cooperation is over.” This declaration was enough to somewhat bring Trump to his senses as he then got on a call with Carney wherein he shockingly “respected Canada’s sovereignty” and even told reporters that he “always loved Canada.”

And that’s why the people of Canada are confident that they have the leader they need to deal with a man like Trump.

Such was the extent of Trump’s toxicity that it changed the course of Canada’s election as initially, conservatives were predicted to have a landslide victory, but the country soon tipped in favor of the liberals and Carney. The Conservative Party, led by Pierre Poilievre, suffered major failures, even costing Poilievre his own seat, after they failed to deal strongly with and address Trump’s provocations.

But not Carney.

He has risen as an international leader willing to challenge Trump openly. Apart from appearing to be a capable leader, he is a respected name in the international world of finance – he was the former Governor of the Bank of England and Bank of Canada – and has already expressed the goal to become the world leader America can’t be until Trump remains in the White House.

No matter what Trump and team say, it is impossible to see why Canada should even think about knuckling under America.

Donald Trump singlehandedly handed the Liberals victory.]]>
<![CDATA[

Silver linings are few and far between when it comes to the Trump istration, but one notable side effect is that other countries have taken a peek at what’s now going on in the White House and responded with a disgusted “ew, gross!”

Donald Trump is so nakedly corrupt, chaotic, and incompetent that candidates and parties who wouldn’t ordinarily stand a chance are receiving a rapid re-evaluation from voters, if only to put as much distance between themselves and the United States. This is precisely what happened in Canada yesterday.

Up until Trump’s election victory, the Canadian Conservatives led by Pierre Poilievre were set for a barnstorming rout of the Liberal Party. Now the “Trump factor” saw Canadians abandon the Conservatives in droves, preferring the security and competence of the ‘boring’ Mark Carney. Heck, Poilievre even lost his own seat!

Carney has wasted no time underlining that he’s fully prepared to strike back against Trump and meet any aggression from the U.S. border. In his victory speech, he told a cheering crowd: “America wants our land, our resources, our water. These are not idle threats. Trump is trying to break us so America can own us. That will never happen.”

This is effectively a response to a Trump Truth Social post on election day that repeated his vow to make Canada “the cherished 51st. State of the United States of America”. It’s the kind of message that would have had the Conservatives wringing their hands with frustration as Trump himself does the best electioneering possible for the Liberals.

It’s been widely noted that even if Trump succeeds with his bonkers plan, it’d instantly backfire on him. Canada is much more liberal than the United States, so incorporating it would instantly swing American politics to the left. If Canada’s 10 provinces were added as states, that’d mean 20 new Canadian senators, 52 new Canadian House representatives, and an additional 54 new votes in the Electoral College.

This would effectively be the death knell for Trumpism and the Republican Party in its current form, as both would suddenly be subject to voters who’d understandably hate their guts. Alternatively (and depressingly!) Trump could just seize Canada and deny them a democratic say in who rules over them, but maybe having 40 million extraordinarily unhappy new citizens wouldn’t work out well either. Either way, whatever happens, Trump is firmly on the back foot and Carney and the Canadians are laughing down at him. Here’s hoping that lasts.

Canada is ready to lead the "new world" that is going to exclude Trump's America.]]>
<![CDATA[

If Donald Trump’s ultimate goal was to sever America’s ties with its strongest allies and dismantle the nation’s proud status as the leader others looked up to, then I guess congratulations are in order for the 47th president of the U.S.

Just days ago, when Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that their “old relationship” with the United States, which was based on “deepening integration of our economies and tight security and military cooperation,” is over, Trump backpedaled on his stubborn and frankly insulting stance on his neighbor. He got on a call with Carney, called him the PM of Canada instead of trying to mock him by calling him “Governor,” and announced he respected the country’s sovereignty.

But evidently, that newfound desire to be nice only stretched to not adding the new trade levies on Canada and Mexico since on his so-called “Liberation Day,” Trump imposed 25% taxes on steel, aluminum, and automotive from Canada. As the illusion of diplomacy shattered into pieces, Carney held a press conference to announce that Canada is answering these “unjustified” and “unwarranted” tariffs with a 25% tax on U.S. vehicles. He assured that these tariffs wouldn’t apply to their ally, Mexico.

“The president’s actions will reverberate here in Canada and across the world. They are all unjustified, unwarranted, and in our judgment misguided.”

Since Trump seems adamant on transitioning into a bully that wants to twist the arms of other leaders into submission, Canada will rise up to the challenge and be the world leader as America walks back the decades of progress and respect it had earned.

Carney revealed that he and other leaders, as well as trade officials, plan to establish and broaden “free and equitable” trade relationships away from and without America to

“In this new world, we need to look out for ourselves. Because we are Canadian, we will always look out for each other.”

Canada, Mexico, and the leaders of Europe are in pursuit of ditching Trump at a time when his mindless tariffs have left the big three of the U.S. stock markets looking at massive losses – Nasdaq saw a drop 6%, S&P 500 suffered a 4.8% drop, while the Dow’s value fell by 3.9%. As reported by The Guardian, Apple and Nvidia lost $470bn in value.

Now, the POTUS claims he did what he did to match high foreign tariffs on America and shared a big colorful chart detailing the offensive numbers. But while MAGA has already sewn its eyes shut and flipped the kill switch on their brain cells, the fact remains that his so-called claims are misleading and nowhere near the real tariffs. For example, he has announced 20% tariffs on EU goods, saying that the EU imposes 39% tariffs on America. In reality, the EU’s average tariff on U.S. goods is approximately 3%.

Not what we call “reciprocity” in the real world, Mr. President. But thankfully, he will soon learn as Canada, Europe, and many others are ready to impart real-time wisdom on what the word really means.

Well, that's what bullies do when they're backed into a corner.]]>
<![CDATA[

While politeness is appreciated in a person, it has been proven time and again that not retaliating when facing a bully will result in getting ruthlessly dominated by someone mistakenly believing they hold all the cards. Sometimes, you have to put your foot down hard enough for the said bully to recognize that his attempt to suppress you can and will backfire.

On that note, the MAGA crowd should know that Donald Trump has changed his stance on Canada mere hours after its new Prime Minister, Mark Carney, publicly severed all ties with the U.S. in a cabinet meeting.

“The old relationship we had with the United States based on deepening integration of our economies and tight security and military cooperation is over.”

For weeks now, Trump had been stuck on his controversial and insulting rhetoric of making Canada the 51st state of America. Former PM Justin Trudeau’s refusal to even entertain the idea led to Trump imposing a high blanket 25% tariff on Canadian goods as well as a 25% duty on steel and aluminium imports.

Carney assumed office on March 14, and traditionally, the president of America gets in with the Canadian leader soon after their appointment. But it was only after he announced how Canada will have to “dramatically reduce” its reliance on the United States that the POTUS got on a call with him.

“It’s clear the U.S. is no longer a reliable partner. It is possible that with comprehensive negotiations, we could reestablish an element of confidence but there will be no going backwards.

There’s even more to do, and that’s why I chose to go to and the United Kingdom, two long-standing and reliable partners, friends and allies of Canada.”

Donald Trump respects ‘Canada’s sovereignty’ now 1w735i

After tactlessly demanding that Canada give up its status as a nation and insulting it at every turn, Trump is now singing a new tune. As his decision to impose a 25% tariff on vehicle imports draws near, Trump engaged in a call with Carney, a discussion that both sides found productive. Surprisingly, Carney shared that the POTUS “respected Canada’s sovereignty,” which is completely against how he had been addressing the nation until recently. BBC reports that he even told reporters that he “always loved Canada.”

“I think things will work out very well between Canada and the United States.”

This sudden 180 towards a positive and respectable approach was followed by Trump’s post where he once again voiced his stance as Team Canada now.

Did Trump realize Canada would not be bowing down, accepted he was losing, and chose to change his tactics? Or did Canada cave during the call, Carney’s strong stance crumbling in the face of even higher tariffs? Speculations are all we have until the elections in Canada are over and the real deal Trump and Carney are working on becomes public knowledge.

Mess with the beaver, get dam'd.]]>
<![CDATA[

In the words of Canada‘s new prime minister-designate Mark Carney, Canada is always ready when somebody else drops the gloves — or, in this case, when Donald Trump drops unnecessary tariffs upon them. Today, Canada has walked that particular walk with news of a “dollar-for-dollar” implantation of tariffs on its southern neighbor.

Per CTV News, Canada’s tariffs are targeting steel and aluminum imports going to the United States. Like Trump’s tariffs, they’ll impose a 25% financial penalty, measuring out to approximately $12.6 billion in steel products, $3 billion in aluminium products, and $14.2 billion on what’s likely the same products that Canada hit with the tariff ray on Mar. 4.

Trump began this trade war with Canada on Feb. 4, having previously promised to slap a sweeping 25% tariff on the country unless Canada took additional actions on issues such as border control and drug trafficking. According to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau — who’s due to transfer power to Carney at an unspecified date — less than 1% of both illegal border crossings and fentanyl migration occurs at the Canada-U.S. border.

Trudeau, knowing that numbers would get him nowhere in soothing Trump’s aggressive impulses, nevertheless unveiled a $1.3 billion Canada-U.S. border security plan. Trump, demonstrating his trademark fluency in hot air, went on to impose the tariffs anyway.

With these tariffs, it’s become an out-and-out, fire-with-fire trade war. Products affected by Canada’s retaliatory tariffs include, but are not limited to, tools, computers and servers, display monitors, water heaters, sports equipment, cast-iron products, jewelry, watches, tricycles, video game consoles, smartphones, umbrellas, gongs, golf clubs, fishing poles, and lighters.

The solution to all this economic carnage? America getting its president under control. Put more politely by Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly, American citizens ought to get louder about what Trump’s tariff war is doing to their livelihoods. “Help us help you,” were her exact words.

Trust me, we Canadians have no interest in enabling a trade war with Donald Trump, but so long as he’s going to sabotage this once-reliable and everpresent trade relationship — which, make no mistake, he’s only doing to give the illusion that he’s getting stuff done as president, all while the livelihoods of Americans (MAGA and non-MAGA) are further sacrificed in the name of a fascist future — Canada is going to protect itself, and it’s going to do everything it can to protect its citizens in the process.

Speaking at a steel plant in Hamilton, Ontario, Carney — who turned up to speak to steel workers — assured Canadians that the proceeds from the tariffs would be put directly back into the country’s steel and aluminum industries.

The prime minister-designate has long been an opponent of the United States’ influence on the global trade market, having urged global banks to explore options outside of the U.S. dollar for reserve currency during the first Trump presidency, when China was a frequent target of tariffs. He also prolifically opposes wealth inequality and is a proponent of listening to scientists on the topic of climate change. In other words, Carney is more or less the antithesis of Trump’s mortal essence, and the POTUS will subsequently have no easy time pushing his neighbors around in the coming months.

He won the Liberal Party leadership in a landslide election.]]>
<![CDATA[

Earlier this week, the Liberal Party of Canada revealed their new leader (and, by extension, the new prime minister-designate of Canada) in one Mark Carney, whose landslide victory with 85.9% of the first ballot votes is made especially significant by the fact that he will be first prime minister in history never to have held elected office before.

His victory comes roughly two months after former Liberal Party leader Justin Trudeau announced his resignation from the prime ministry, which will be made official on March 24. Carney will be sworn in as prime minister on or around that date.

So, what can we expect from the 24th Prime Minister of Canada going forward?

Who is Mark Carney? 502335

Carney’s background as a high-profile economist is bound to walk the walk in this big step he’s taken into politics. He chaired Trudeau’s Task Force on Economic Growth, and has served as the governor of the Bank of England (Carney also has Irish and British citizenship, which he said he’s in the process of revoking, per CBC). He also informally advised Trudeau on Canada’s economic response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Needless to say, he’s been keeping an extra-sharp eye on Donald Trump’s obsession with tariffs, even long before Trump’s current term. In 2019, shortly after the then-POTUS played up his threats of subjecting China to additional tariffs, Carney urged global banks to work together to move away from the U.S. dollar as a reserve currency, which would subsequently dampen the United States’ “domineering influence” on international trade, per his speech at the 2019 Jackson Hole Symposium.

To do this, Carney suggested the use of a Synthetic Hegemonic Currency provided through a network of digital currencies from central banks all over the world.

At the 2023 Global Progress Action Summit, Carney urged elite progressives to use their wealth and influence to build “health care, infrastructure, schools, opportunity, sustainability and prosperity,” per the National Observer. He has been a vocal opponent of wealth inequality for over a decade, having referred to the Occupy Wall Street movement as “entirely constructive” in 2011, per the HuffPost.

Elsewhere, Carney has promised to spend 2% of Canada’s GDP on defence over the next five years, and was appointed as the United Nations’ special envoy for climate action and finance in 2020. On the topic of climate change, Carney had this to say in an interview on CBC’s Rosemary Barton Live:

We can’t self-isolate from climate change. Ultimately, we’ll all be affected. So we all have to act. There’s a recognition that the advice of scientists should be listened to. They advised on the risks of pandemics and we didn’t fully listen to them anywhere in the world. They’ve been advising for a long time of the risks on climate change. It is time to listen.

In a recent appearance on The Daily Show (per The Globe and Mail), Carney identified Canada’s oil industry as the country’s biggest culprit in the global climate crisis, noting how lifestyle changes in Canadian citizens alone cannot make up for the damage that the industry causes. Per CBC, during his campaign, Carney suggested scrapping the carbon tax for citizens, while keeping the tax active on the oil industry and other large-scale emitters.

A consumer incentive program that rewards environmentally-friendly choices was also named in that proposal, and he further promised to introduce financial penalties on Canadian imports coming from countries with high-pollution, low-environmentalist policies.

Perhaps most pertinently, Carney has no intent on backing down against Trump’s tariff odyssey (as if the Donald needs any help putting America in hot water). Per The Wall Street Journal‘s report of Carney’s recent speech to a crowd in Edmonton, Carney stated “We did not ask for this fight. But Canadians are always ready when someone else drops the gloves. Make no mistake, Canada will win,” promising to match the tariffs imposed on Canada by Trump and otherwise negotiate with the firmest possible hand.
