Cynthia Erivo inevitably knows how talented she is, but that doesn’t mean every role she gets from here on out is going to be handed to her on a silver platter.

The Tony Award winner and Oscar nominee became an overnight sensation following her transcendent performance in Wicked, a role that many believe only Wicked: For Good can top when it arrives in theaters Nov. 21. Capitalizing on her much-deserved moment in the spotlight, Erivo has wasted no time setting her sights on another iconic role she’d love to play: Ororo Munroe, aka the weather-controlling X-Woman known as Storm. With Marvel set to bring a new wave of X-Men into the MCU any moment now, it’s the perfect time for her to toss her name into Kevin Feige’s hat.

Unfortunately for Erivo, she’s not the only Grammy winner who wants to hurl lightning and electrocute evil amphibians. A fellow musician has decided to put herself in the running, with a different take on the role than what Erivo might have envisioned. There are so many talented actresses who can play Storm as well as her fellow X-Men and women. If it does come down to Erivo and her new competitor, who will actually achieve liftoff?

Who else wants to play Marvel’s new Storm?

Fellow Grammy winner SZA has revealed that she would love to play electric mutant Storm, too ⏤ and she wants her portrayal to be “gnarly.” During an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, she revealed that while she didn’t necessarily see a future in acting, there’s one reason why on-screen heroism is her calling.

“I would love to be a superhero!” she announced after Hudson told the studio audience she could see SZA playing one. “My dad, he collects first-edition comics, so he has first-edition Thor comics and Silver Surfer just in the basement. So I grew up, like, super being into Marvel and DC.” Although Silver Surfer was the first character she said she’d love to play, she quickly confirmed what she’d want to do if given the chance to play Storm.

“But I was thinking, you know how Storm has an origin story">The Fantastic Four: First Steps. So how immersed in Marvel are we really, SZA? *cheeky side-eye emoji*

Review: ‘One of Them Days’ loves its leads, but doesn’t love — or even know — itself https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/reviews/review-one-of-them-days-loves-its-leads-but-doesnt-love-or-even-know-itself/ https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/reviews/review-one-of-them-days-loves-its-leads-but-doesnt-love-or-even-know-itself/#respond Sat, 18 Jan 2025 15:56:51 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/?p=1826389 Keke Palmer and SZA elevate each other in spite of the film rather than because of it.]]>

The buddy film is one of the most vicious undertakings any filmmaker can find themselves in. It offers more than enough freedom in the realm of premise, be it grounded (Planes, Trains, and Automobiles) or madcap (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas), but it’s not always the easiest task to create a story that allows your two leads to thrive without overshadowing each other. And in some cases, it can be dangerously alluring to lean on the sparkly-but-rickety novelty of two celebrities playing off of each other in a quirky situation (see: anything with Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart).

One of Them Days — the feature screenwriting debut of Rap Sh!t mastermind Syreeta Singleton — doesn’t fall into either of these traps, but that’s unfortunately less to do with the immaculately paired Keke Palmer and SZA (in her feature film debut) and more to do with the film’s refusal to build itself around them whatsoever. Indeed, there’s a scrumptious wisdom to the world of One of Them Days that’s tragically absent in the way that it’s approached, and despite the somewhat-contagious fun that Palmer and SZA had on this set, the end result is a rather limp affair lacking in tooth, spine, and mind.

The film stars Palmer and SZA as Dreux and Alyssa, two best friends and roommates whose fortunes wind up in free-fall when Alyssa’s boyfriend Keshawn (Joshua Neal) makes off with their rent money. With just nine hours until they get evicted, the duo wrap themselves up in whatever shenanigans they can so as to keep a roof over their head by day’s end.

One of Them Days

One of Them Days lives and dies by its adherence to unity. This is true in the context of Dreux and Alyssa as a pair, as well as the community-centric environments that the film takes place in. The snappy sass that effortlessly emanates from the two leads is most effective when Palmer and SZA are playing off of/ganging up on a third person, and there’s a recurring theme of people looking out for each other that a heartier film would have leveraged more effectively, but is a mostly welcome ingredient here nevertheless.

But the critical mistake that One of Them Days makes — and it’s hardly alone in making it — is the lack of structure in its comedy; an ironic misstep, given that unity is its greatest strength. Indeed, the film commits the great comedy sin of throwing random gags, set pieces, and quips at the audience in hopes that more will land than not.

This is a frankly unacceptable approach to cinematic comedy no matter how you swing it. Comedy operates on a level of subjectivity that’s much deeper than most any other storytelling element out there, and that volatility needs to be counteracted by a sturdy framework, which would in turn give the film more of a comedic identity.

Instead, One of Them Days takes a sort of fire-and-forget approach to its comedic beats, quickly shuffling goofs in the door and shuffling them out just as hastily, with hardly an iota of tension to them. This is not a film that’s interested in being funny; it’s a film that wants to have funny things inside of it. The problem is that it can’t decide what it believes is funny, and so runs the gamut of raunch, slapstick, antagonistic, awkward, and whatever else it can pull out of the proceedings that could plausibly appeal to some abstract sense of humor.

One of Them Days
Image via Sony Pictures Releasing

Similar vices litter the plot, which somehow manages to overstuff itself while simultaneously starving itself of true development, as though half of the film’s bells and whistles were dreamed up solely to hit its ittedly refreshing 97-minute runtime. Aziza Scott plays Berniece, a ruthless bully who pursues Dreux and Alyssa for a painfully contrived reason, despite the fact that this film does not need an antagonist outside of the pair’s landlord, and yet affords this character an absurd amount of screentime that adds nothing to the film itself. Also in the mix is Patrick Cage as Maniac, a man that Dreux has her eye on, and the pivot point of a romance subplot that, again, does not serve the film outside of making it longer.

Worst of all is the complete lack of adventure that permeates all of these dynamics and events. There’s no genuine hook to the already out-of-place romance subplot, Berniece is the bad guy who stays the bad guy throughout, and even Dreux and Alyssa go through the typical motions of being besties, getting mad at each other and walking away angrily, and then forgiving each other because the movie is almost over and friendship must win the day.

This would be marginally salvageable if these formulaic beats weren’t played so seriously, but even then, we’d still be left wanting. There’s no reason to doubt that these extra characters could have added nuance to the film’s clear interest in the idea of community, but that also exemplifies the film’s problem; it’s interested in ideas without being interested in how it wants to present them. To go even further, it doesn’t seem that interested in figuring out what it wants to do at all.

One of Them Days
Image via Sony Pictures Releasing

All in all, One of Them Days is one of those films that tries to coast by on vibes, and then proceeds to suffer the fate of films that try to coast by on vibes. The sweetness and spunk inherent to Palmer’s and SZA’s chemistry makes the film an entirely bearable ordeal, as the pair’s appeal relies on something far more genuine than a sensational odd-coupling of celebrities so often utilized by the buddy comedy genre.

And yet, it’s precisely because that chemistry is mostly lost to the film’s pejoratively chaotic plot that the failure of One of Them Days stings as much as it does. Palmer has been a consistent delight on our screens since she was a child, and SZA’s competence in front of the camera is a fascinating revelation, so why undercut this incredibly unique pairing with material that doesn’t seem to understand why it consists of the things it consists of?

Indeed, it may be far from Sony’s worst offerings, but One of Them Days made a bad fumble on a great opportunity, and that’s depressing in its own way.

In addition to the tour with Lamar, SZA will also make her acting debut this year. She’ll costar in the film One of Them Days alongside Keke Palmer, who told People that fans will definitely enjoy her performance.

“The world is about to be just gagged,” Palmer said. “Honestly, it’s so, so good. I really am just so proud of you and the movie. It’s all, to me, a match made in heaven.”

SZA also told the outlet she’s “trying something new” despite her own anxiety about being in a movie. She added, “I have tons of fears of being perceived on camera, talking, my voice [and] being next to Keke, who’s a superstar of so many multitudes.” The movie lands in theaters Jan. 17.

‘It wasn’t just titled after you’: SZA finally explains why she has a song named after Drew Barrymore, so get out the tissues https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/celebrities/it-wasnt-just-titled-after-you-sza-finally-explains-why-she-has-a-song-named-after-drew-barrymore-so-get-out-the-tissues/ https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/celebrities/it-wasnt-just-titled-after-you-sza-finally-explains-why-she-has-a-song-named-after-drew-barrymore-so-get-out-the-tissues/#respond Tue, 14 Jan 2025 21:31:43 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/?p=1824495 SZA learned how to be SZA from Drew Barrymore]]>

SZA is growing into her own as one of the most talented R&B artists in a generation, and her piercing lyrics always feel relatable because she never fears to show us her insecurities and flaws. These aforementioned qualities were apparent when she released her debut album CTRL in 2017, and SZA bore her essence into several songs therein, such as the track “Drew Barrymore.”

For a long time, though, fans have wondered why exactly the song is named after the famous actress and talk show host. Taken at face value, “Drew Barrymore” is a quintessential SZA record, where the singer tackles her insecurity and ponders whether that means she’s unlovable. The song became a sleeper hit from her illustrious debut album and when it came time to finally shoot the video, Drew Barrymore was gracious enough to make a cameo in it.

Now it was time for SZA to return the favor. When the song first came out, SZA was just breaking through the mainstream, but now she’s one of the biggest artists outright, going on stadium tours, breaking streaming records, and working on a budding movie career. She finally appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show to talk about the song and why she named it after the host, even though Barrymore isn’t mention by name on the hook or anywhere else in the song.

For SZA, Barrymore has always been an inspiration. SZA told the host that she even wrote Barrymore a letter to share just how much she meant to the singer when she was still growing up, but she never sent it. SZA said, ““[The song] was inspired by you; it wasn’t just titled after you. You were so yourself — you were quirky, your smile wasn’t perfect. I had a slight speech impediment, and people still laugh all the time. They’re like, ‘What is SZA saying?’ It’s a running joke, but I love the way you talk… it gave me permission to be myself.”

Knowing Barrymore and how emotional she can get on her show, the tears started welling up. It’s heartwarming to see someone getting their flowers while they’re still here. With their busy schedules and the meteoric rise of SZA’s career, the two have never really had the opportunity to discuss the reason why SZA named the song after Barrymore, but we’re more than glad that it finally happened for all of us to see.

For some social media s, the heart-to-heart between the two icons was too overwhelming, and it just ended up in them crying.

SZA is a megastar, and with that comes public scrutiny of her body, her every word, and sometimes even just unmitigated nastiness. But every so often, we get to see her true self, and we’re glad she hasn’t lost that spark that made us fall in love with her talent in the first place. Knowing that the courage with which she’s held on to that charm with ushered along by Barrymore herself makes it all the more endearing. It also sparks hope that, somewhere in the world, SZA is inspiring another young girl to also stay true to herself.

SZA is set to make her feature film debut in One of Them Days, starring alongside Keke Palmer and Katt Williams. The movie is scheduled to premiere on Jan. 17, 2025, in theaters nationwide.

SZA calls out fans’ ‘weird’ behavior after they shame her for being ‘big’ and getting BBL surgery, which she has itted to regretting https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/celebrities/sza-calls-out-fans-weird-behavior-after-they-shame-her-for-being-big-and-getting-bbl-surgery-which-she-has-itted-to-regretting/ https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/celebrities/sza-calls-out-fans-weird-behavior-after-they-shame-her-for-being-big-and-getting-bbl-surgery-which-she-has-itted-to-regretting/#respond Tue, 31 Dec 2024 17:10:40 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/?p=1817915 Whether her fans are ready or not, SZA is ready for healing]]>

SZA has taken the mantle in a long line of R&B superstars whose lives seamlessly mesh with their music. The upsides to that are record-breaking sales, fame, and awards; the downsides are a parasocial fanbase that often finds ways to get on her nerves by constantly commenting on her body, relationships, and overstepping just about every boundary SZA tries to set.

The COVID quarantine era was tough for everyone. It disrupted daily life, impacting mental health, incomes, and even mortality. For SZA, it was an especially challenging time — she was grieving the loss of her grandmother, battling eating disorders, and dealing with depression. Yet, for some of her fans, this is an era they miss.

A fan page recently posted a video from that time of SZA in the backyard of her childhood home, upcycling one of her mother’s old skirts. That post, in isolation, would’ve been fine. SZA herself itted in a later post that she was masking her struggles, making it impossible for fans to know. But what made the interaction sinister was a commenter somehow tying the video to SZA getting a BBL. That’s when SZA finally put her foot down, retorting, “Y’all say weird s–t like this and wonder why I’m different and don’t feel comfortable w y’all anymore.”

SZA has already been open about her complicated feelings toward her BBL procedure. While her feelings were initially marked by regret, in a recent interview, she discussed how she feels about it now, years after getting it and repeatedly addressing it in her music and previous interviews. She simply shared that at this point of her life she’s neither ashamed nor proud of her BBL — it’s just part of her lore now. Yet fans keep trying to build a mountain out of this ant hill.

The real issue here is a tale as old as the concept of a pop star: after the release of her record-breaking sophomore album SOS, SZA outgrew her relatively small audience and became one of the biggest superstars in the world — as the commenter alluded to by saying, “before she got big.” Her music suddenly belonged to everyone, not just the early fans who were first in line — and to unevolved fans, that’s a cardinal sin.

Regardless of what these fans think, things are only looking up for SZA and her artistry. She finally released the deluxe version of her Grammy-winning album SOS, calling it SOS: LANA. She has another album on the way and is co-headlining a stadium tour with the biggest rapper in the world, Kendrick Lamar. The release of LANA has made SZA more forthcoming than usual, even by her standards of being an open book. She’s been on X and Instagram clarifying just about every miniature thing going on in her life. But perhaps the most refreshing thing to hear is that she feels this new era is about healing.

Commentary on SZA’s life, work, and body will never stop. She’s one of the defining artists of her generation, and for better or worse, that means she’s always going to be a topic of discussion. We’re just glad she’s defending herself more instead of letting the hurt and humiliation people try to put her through fester.

‘Clock starts now’: After years of broken promises, SZA might actually release her new highly-anticipated album as planned https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/music/clock-starts-now-after-years-of-broken-promises-sza-might-actually-release-her-new-highly-anticipated-album-as-planned/ https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/music/clock-starts-now-after-years-of-broken-promises-sza-might-actually-release-her-new-highly-anticipated-album-as-planned/#respond Tue, 10 Dec 2024 09:21:31 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/?p=1807438 We've been hearing this since 2022, so how long do we have to wait?]]>

After years of teasing, SZA has kicked off the countdown for the release of her eagerly-anticipated new project, telling fans on social media that the “clock starts now.”

Announcing the project — which serves as a deluxe edition of her 2022 Grammy-winning album SOS — SZA shared a teaser clip which sees her squatting in the woods to pee (iconic) as a dreamy song plays in the background. While the song samples the Isley Brothers’ “Voyage To Atlantis,” it appears to be an unheard SZA track, presumably lifted from the track list of the deluxe project.

At the end of the clip, the word “Lana” appears in ethereal font above “SOS Deluxe,” confirming that the former is the title of the expanded version of the album. “Clock starts now,” the musician wrote in the accompanying caption, before wishing fans a “Happy anniversary” for the two years since SOS’s release. Naturally, given just how long SZA has been teasing Lana, the fan reaction was one of disbelief and excitement.

“SHES ACTUALLY GONNA DROP IT HOLY S***,” one eager fan wrote, with another adding that the singer is “coming to save the music industry.” While the teaser frustratingly doesn’t reveal an official release date for Lana, it’s nonetheless a promising step forward for a project SZA has been discussing for almost two years.

It all began back in the months after SOS dropped, when SZA said a deluxe edition of the project was coming “soon” (yeah right). Then, in January of this year, she revealed that her process of creating the deluxe had expanded to become ten whole new tracks, before later saying that she would release both a deluxe and an entirely new album titled Lana.

Now, it seems the deluxe and Lana are the same thing, though we don’t yet know how many songs will feature on the project. Our hopes were dashed yet again in March, when SZA said she was scrapping the entire project after a few songs were leaked on social media. That was enough to send fans into a downright tizzy.

SZA, meanwhile, remained tight-lipped on the whole ordeal until two weeks ago, when she appeared on a livestream with internet personality Kai Cenat and fellow musician Lizzo. When asked about the status of Lana, the musician said it would “be out before the year is over.” For some fans, that felt like an empty promise, but the release of a teaser for the deluxe has recouped some of the hope that perhaps Lana will arrive by the end of 2024.

The fanfare only intensified earlier this week, when SZA shared a photo of what appeared to be the track list for Lana written on a whiteboard. While the song titles were concealed, she did leave visible the name “Saturn,” a song which was previously released as a surprise in February. As for what we can expect from Lana, SZA told British Vogue earlier this year that unlike SOS and her debut album Ctrl, this project won’t be informed so much by heartbreak or “brokenness.”

“I think I am making music from a more beautiful place,” the singer said. “From a more possible place versus a more angsty place. I’m not identifying with my brokenness. It’s not my identity. Yeah, I experienced cruelty. I have to put it down at some point. Piece by piece, my music is shifting because of that, the lighter I get.” Sounds like she might’ve gotten over that ex-boyfriend she wanted to murder on “Kill Bill”, and we’re totally here for that.

Kendrick Lamar has been a hot topic of conversation in the last 24 hours, and it’s probably not for the reasons you’d think.

The 37-year-old rapper has had a great year. In September, it was revealed that he’d been picked to headline the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show, and on Wednesday, he announced that he’d be embarking on his highly anticipated Grand National Tour next year.

Fans seemed excited when Lamar dropped the tour news. However, the excitement quickly turned to frustration when people noticed the sky-high prices on presale tickets.

It almost feels like Deja vu after we have just lived through this price-gouging story with Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.

TICKETS: Kendrick Lamar 2025 tour

Nosebleed seats in the upper levels for Lamar’s May 29 stop in San Francisco are currently going for $337 or more, with floor seats near the stage priced at $1179.

Many of the rapper’s diehard fans – who had been riding with him since his first album, “Section .80,” came out in 2011 – set social media ablaze with their frustration.

“I when hip hop concerts cost $50-$60 per ticket. $350 per ticket for Kendrick Lamar in the nose bleeds is insane lmao hard ,” one disgruntled fan wrote on X.

Other fans took to the comment section of Lamar’s Instagram post announcing the tour to vent their frustration.

One person wrote, “Those ticket prices were not for the broke fans and definitely for the privileged elite. I found nothing under $300 in the pre sale. Such a bummer I was really hoping to see yall this time.”

“But like why are tickets the cost of any plane ticket….why Kendrick,” another fan wrote.

“You need to fix the prices,” a third person said, alongside three crying face emojis.

“300 dollars cheapest ticket, absolutely absurd prices yall should feel shame,” wrote another.

Many fans blame the outrageous prices on dynamic pricing, strategy businesses like Ticketmaster use at times to adjust prices in real-time based on market demand.

Here’s everything you need to know about Lamar’s tour.

In an industry full of pop stars who protect their mystique, SZA continues to go against the grain, openly discussing her various cosmetic surgeries. This time, she has shared exactly how she feels about her Brazilian butt lift, commonly known as a BBL.

Even before opening up about her cosmetic surgeries, SZA’s body has always been a topic of discussion. That was, of course, until she released her critically acclaimed second album SOS, where she addressed nearly every aspect of her personal life, including whether her butt is natural — a question she answers in the intro by clarifying that it’s not. In 2022, people were not as forthcoming about plastic procedures. The stigma around them pressured many to lie and claim their bodies were entirely natural.

In 2024, however, the culture surrounding cosmetic enhancements is more accepting. Whether it’s Megan Fox itting to plastic surgery or Oprah Winfrey acknowledging the use of diet pills, altering one’s appearance through medical procedures is increasingly seen as socially acceptable. In a new, vulnerable British Vogue profile, SZA delved deeper into her BBL experience. She itted feeling conflicted, saying she once considered it “so stupid” and “just not super necessary,” but she also acknowledged that she loves how her body looks now.

SZA’s approach to making music and handling press by granting fans seemingly unrestricted access to her personal life appears to be working. Her debut album, CTRL, has remained on the Billboard 200 charts for seven years, setting a record for a solo female act. She shows no signs of changing this approach, with a deluxe edition of SOS and a follow-up full-length project titled Lana both scheduled for release this autumn.

SZA has been candid about having thin skin, and comments on her body are undoubtedly why she continues to address questions about it in interviews and her music. It’s likely difficult — we all have insecurities about our bodies, whether it’s less-than-straight teeth, thinning hair, or other imperfections. For SZA, these insecurities have been amplified by millions of opinions. It’s unsurprising, then, that she feels torn about whether getting work done was the right decision; she’s likely heard every critique imaginable.

That being said, SZA seems to have turned a new leaf in her self-analysis. She’s comfortable with not having an absolute stance on her body and is open to getting more work done in the future if she feels like it. The same evolution applies to her music. In the British Vogue profile, she stated, “I’m not identifying with my brokenness. It’s not my identity. It’s sh** that happened to me. Yeah, I experienced cruelty. I have to put it down at some point. Piece by piece, my music is shifting because of that — the lighter I get.”

SZA is clearly focused on moving forward and leaving the past behind. Her future includes not only two albums arriving this autumn, but also her debut lead role alongside the equally open Keke Palmer in the movie One Of Them Days, set for release in January. No matter how SZA looks or what she creates next, we can’t wait to see what she has in store.

Halle Berry, Drake ‘Slime You Out’ single cover controversy, explained https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/celebrities/halle-berry-drake-slime-you-out-single-cover-controversy-explained/ https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/celebrities/halle-berry-drake-slime-you-out-single-cover-controversy-explained/#respond Mon, 18 Sep 2023 01:02:58 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/?p=1588642 The dispute is about as juicy as Halle Berry's hair during the 2012 Kids' Choice Awards.]]>

Drake has stirred controversy yet again, though this time, it’s not for his long history of questionable betting habits. Last week, the rapper announced his latest single, “Slime You Out,” which marks his first collaboration with SZA and the first track to be lifted from his forthcoming album, For All the Dogs.

The cover art for the single is an image of Halle Berry getting slimed at the 2012 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, and the actress had some choice words for Drake following his “Slime You Out” announcement. For a woman whose name has been mentioned in nearly 100 rap songs, it appears Halle Berry (or “hallelujah,” as Kendrick Lamar might quip) has had enough.

Drake and SZA announce “Slime You Out”

On Sept. 13, both Drake and SZA took to their respective Instagram s to announce their collaborative single “Slime You Out.” It is the first preview fans have gotten of For All the Dogs, Drake’s eighth studio album set for release on Oct. 6.

Neither artist confirmed the single’s release date and simply accompanied their posts with a series of emoticons. While a SZA and Drake collaboration is news in itself — the pair dated in 2019 and have referenced each other in their songs — it was the cover art for “Slime You Out” that caught the most attention.

The cover in question is an image of Berry amid a royal sliming at the 2012 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, which she attended as one of the presenters for the evening alongside Glee’s Chris Colfer and Miranda Cosgrove of iCarly (how circa 2010s does that sound?).

Halle Berry weighs in

Following Drake’s announcement, Berry shared an Instagram post with text that read: “Sometimes you have to be the bigger guy … even if you’re a woman!.” When asked in the comments section whether the post was about the cover, the actress confirmed she was “disappoint[ed]” by Drake’s single art, writing that she had chosen to be “the bigger person and move on.”

Elsewhere in the comments, Berry revealed that Drake did not get her permission to use the image, saying that while she ires the musician, she “thought better of him” and described his using the image as “not cool.”

Another pointed out that Getty Images owns the rights to the photograph and that Drake likely got permission to use it regardless of Berry’s wishes. To this point, Berry revealed that Drake had personally asked for her consent and went on to use the image despite her declining.

“He asked me and I said NO,” Berry wrote in the comments section. “Why ask if you intend to do what you want to do? That was the f*ck you to me.” While neither Drake nor SZA has responded to Berry’s gripes, the plot thickens with the same viscosity as bright green slime following the official release of “Slime You Out.”

Drake releases “Slime You Out”

On Sept. 15, “Slime You Out” appeared on streaming services, though Berry’s gooey green look was noticeably absent in the single art. Instead, “Slime You Out” was accompanied by the album cover of For All the Dogs, which is a scribbled picture of a dog hand drawn by Drake’s son, Adonis Graham.

In any case, the furor has led some to question exactly what “Slime You Out” means, which is where the ever-resourceful Urban Dictionary comes in handy. To be “slimed out,” according to the dictionary, is to be “to get crossed… after you did something foul or suspicious,” a term which — if certain rumors are to be believed — has Drake written all over it.

SZA and Taylor Swift mend fences as ‘Anti-Hero’ blocks ‘Kill Bill’ from Hot 100 number 1 in record 8-week streak https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/news/sza-and-taylor-swift-mend-fences-as-anti-hero-blocks-kill-bill-from-hot-100-number-1-in-record-8-week-streak/ https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/news/sza-and-taylor-swift-mend-fences-as-anti-hero-blocks-kill-bill-from-hot-100-number-1-in-record-8-week-streak/#respond Tue, 17 Jan 2023 20:12:13 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/?p=1399731 It's 2023, so can we please stop pitting successful women against each other? ]]>

Taylor Swift couldn’t even celebrate her history-making Billboard Hot 100 number 1 without first putting out some fires started by her fans. The singer, whose single “Anti-Hero” has just sured “Blank Space” to become the longest chart topper of her career, left a sweet message for SZA on her Instagram story after fans of the two artists spent the last few weeks feuding on social media.

“PS – Been listening to SZA’s album nonstop. Absolutely adore her music. So much love and respect for her!!,” Swift wrote, adding a heart emoji at the end for good measure.

Swift likely felt the need to address SZA while celebrating “Anti-Hero”‘s record 8-week streak due to two screenshots showing Sza’s producer and manager apparently throwing shade at Swift that went viral on Twitter. In them, they can be seen commenting on Swift’s “attempt” to block the “Kill Bill” singer from topping Billboard’s album chart with her latest project SOS.

SZA quickly distanced herself from the situation, tweeting out that she doesn’t have any grievances with the Midnights songwriter, and that she loved her album and songwriting.

The two artists have been (lovingly) battling it out in the charts with SZA’s recently released and viral song “Kill Bill” not quite managing to take the top spot just yet. Swift’s own “Anti-Hero” first made it to number one on Oct. 31 2022 when the artist made history as the only person to ever take up the entire Billboard Hot 100 Top 10. With this week’s chart position, the lead single from Midnights successfully dethrones 2014’s “Black Space” as Swift’s song with the most weeks at number one.

SZA is expected to keep rising on the charts, as “Kill Bill” is already number one on Billboard’s Global Chart. Her album SOS has become the first to spend its first five weeks at Billboard Hot 200’s top spot since Adele’s 30.

It’s clearly all love between the two record-breakers. It’s 2023, so can we please stop pitting successful women against each other?

A Quentin Tarantino classic gains new life thanks to SZA’s new album https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/movies/a-quentin-tarantino-classic-gains-new-life-thanks-to-szas-new-album/ https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/movies/a-quentin-tarantino-classic-gains-new-life-thanks-to-szas-new-album/#respond Fri, 09 Dec 2022 07:13:00 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/?p=1370574 This iconic film is getting a revitalization online.]]>

Kill Bill is trending right now on Twitter. However, this version’s creative mastermind is not Quentin Tarantino, but rather the singer/songwriter SZA. Putting an end to her five-year hiatus, SZA has just released her latest album, with one of her songs named “Kill Bill” after the film, so perhaps to director is a little bit creatively behind it.

Just as the movie is a story about a seriously messed up revenge relationship so too is SZA’s song, in which the artist wishes to kill her ex-boyfriend and then maybe even his new girlfriend, as the lyrics in the chorus make clear.

“I might kill my ex, not the best idea
His new girlfriend’s next, how’d I get here?
I might kill my ex, I still love him though
Rather be in jail than alone.”

The relationship having ended has left the artist feeling somewhat unhinged as she is “in the basement, plan a home invasion.” We wouldn’t want to be her ex, that’s for sure. Let’s face it, though, many of us will have had the occasionally dark thought through our mind, maybe listening to this song is enough to feel validated so that none of us ever actually act upon any of these. We don’t think “but SZA’s song made me do it” will hold up in court.

Fans are falling in love with “Kill Bill,” causing it to trend on Twitter. This fan compares it to the film saying that both are masterpieces.

Though some say that the song tops the film and that Kill Bill now answers to SZA.

The trending has left some a little confused, though after listening to the song they don’t care because both are great.

The song is causing others to come out of their shell worryingly.

For many, it’s their favorite song on the album and is making them feel evil things.

This fan cannot wait for the music video, and it looks like they are hoping for that to also take inspiration form the Tarantino classic.

Kill Bill isn’t the only film that SZA uses in her album with one of her other singles named “Gone Girl,” yet another film featuring a less than healthy woman out for revenge no matter the cost. We hope that these songs are simply cathartic for the artist, because if not, we may be a little scared.

Singer SZA, Eddie Huang, and ‘Euphoria’ star Chloe Cherry to star in a new comedy https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/news/singer-sza-eddie-huang-and-euphoria-star-chloe-cherry-to-star-in-a-new-comedy/ https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/news/singer-sza-eddie-huang-and-euphoria-star-chloe-cherry-to-star-in-a-new-comedy/#respond Mon, 15 Aug 2022 22:10:13 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.moviesx.org/?p=1276003 Eddie Huang's latest project involves a hit man who falls in love.]]>

The breakout star from the hit show Euphoria, Chloe Cherry, and Grammy-award-winning singer SZA will star in a new comedy called Tuna Melt, alongside Eddie Huang.

Huang, who also wrote and will direct the movie in addition to starring in it, is collaborating with Scooter Braun and James Sin for SB Projects, according to Deadline, along with Andrew Swett and Aaron Ryder from Ryder Picture Company.

The movie is described as a Pulp Fiction meets High Fidelity, which means it’s a really bloody love story involving a music store and a lot of ex girlfriends, maybe? SZA was cast to play Huang’s love interest, but it’s not known yet what role Cherry will handle in the film.

Huang is a multi-talented personality who made his directorial premiere in the 2021 basketball movie Boogie, which he also wrote and starred in. His book Fresh Off the Boat: A Memoir was used as source material for the ABC show Fresh Off the Boat. That show lasted six seasons. He’s also hosted cooking shows and was tasked to produce a show called Panda for Showtime about pressed pills.

The movie will be singer SZA’a first foray into acting. SZA was born Solána Imani Rowe and her debut album CTRL went double platinum. She teamed up with Kendrick Lamar for the song “All the Stars” for the Black Panther soundtrack — a song that climbed all the way to the top ten of the Billboard charts.

Cherry’s next project is a sci movie called www.RachelOrmont.com. She’s the breakout star from the second season of the HBO series Euphoria.

Huang said he likes to challenge audiences and offer alternatives to all the white coming of age stories out there, especially with Boogie.

“It was always white people in school that were like, ‘Oh, I love Catcher in the Rye, I love Holden Caulfield,’” Huang told Variety last year.. “And I’m like, well, let me present you with a quite unlikable Asian character and see if you love him in the same way.”

He said teen movies were always very manufactured and never felt real.

“All of us kind of suck as teens. None of us are really that good at being people yet. And a lot of the characters you see in teenage or YA films, they’re very manufactured and they’re almost like either all good or all bad. I wanted to show a character that just struggled becoming a man.”

Tuna Melt, however, sounds like a decidedly different type of movie, with a hit man as its protagonist. There’s no release date for the movie just yet but we’ll keep you posted.
