Bella, where the hell you been, Loca? 'Twilight' is getting the musical treatment!]]>
<![CDATA[

Twihards will be absolutely thrilled to learn that a concert version of Twilight is set to embark on a 60-date tour across the country, to coincide with the book series’ 20th anniversary. 4f6a4o

Dubbed ‘Twilight in Concert’, the series of shows will see a 12-piece rock and orchestral ensemble perform the iconic score from 2008’s Twilight, the film adaptation starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. That score was created by Carter Burwell who, thanks to his contribution to Twilight, soundtracked many of our collective teenage years (and all the resulting fan-fics). Topping it all off, it’s said that each show on the ‘Twilight in Concert’ tour will be lit by 1,000 candles, giving it all the dimly-lit energy we’ve come to know from the franchise.

If you know anything about vampires and their aversion to harsh lighting, then the candlelit concert approach makes sense. The tour spans 60 shows across the U.S., kicking off in Seattle on September 13 before completing stops in Portland, San Francisco, Boston, and Philadelphia, among many others. The sweeping run concludes with a final show slated for Milwaukee on November 30. See the full list of tour dates and cities, as well as ticketing information, here

What’s particularly special about the show is that it is a live-to-film experience, meaning the actual movie will be played in sync with the musicians’ performance. The five Twilight films — titled Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn (Parts 1 and 2) — are based on the extraordinarily popular Stephanie Meyer book series of the same name. The first novel was released in 2005, meaning the concert tour coincides with the two decades we’ve spent pining after Edward (or Taylor Lautner’s Jacob, depending on where you land in that never-ending debate).

The franchise’s milestone anniversary has brought with it a flurry of headlines in recent years, from Pattinson revealing whether he’d return to the iconic role to news of a spinoff animated series. Elsewhere, we learned that fellow YA movie alum Jennifer Lawrence had auditioned for Twilight before heading to District 12 in The Hunger Games, and discovered famous author Stephen King’s thoughts on the original book series. Since studios love to milk a successful project for all it’s worth, Twilight isn’t the only beloved franchise to receive the accompanying musical treatment.

Stranger Things is currently in the midst of the theatrical run of its Broadway stage adaptation, while the brains behind 2023’s Barbie — namely Margot Robbie, Greta Gerwig and America Ferrera — have expressed interest in bringing the movie version of the iconic doll to the stage. In any case, news of the ‘Twilight in Concert’ makes one thing clear: I’m due for my eleven hundredth rewatch of the franchise, if only to relish in the glory that is “Bella, where the hell you been, Loca?”. Care to me?

I wasn't prepared for that punch to the gut.]]>
<![CDATA[

Robert Pattinson has played it all, from brooding vampire, to masked vigilante, and even a socially awkward lighthouse keeper. But when asked which of his past roles he’d bring back to life, his answer wasn’t what most fans expected. With options like Edward Cullen from Twilight or Neil, his mysterious character from Tenet, there were plenty of picks that could have made sense. Maybe he’d pick a character with unfinished business? Or perhaps, one whose story could have taken a different turn? Oh no, Pattinson’s pick sent fans into a full-blown nostalgia spiral.

A heartbreaking choice qn4g

During the press tour for his sci-fi film Mickey 17, Pattinson sat down with content creator Brooke Averick for an interview that turned out to be one of the highlights of the promo run. She asked him a simple yet thought-provoking question: “Out of all the characters you’ve played, if you could pick one of your past characters to bring back to life and start over, who would it be?” Pattinson didn’t hesitate with his response.

I was thinking maybe like Cedric Diggory… It was a tragic one.

For those who need a refresher, Cedric Diggory was the golden boy of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. A Hufflepuff through and through, he was brave, kind, and honorable. He was also one of the few characters in the Harry Potter film series who didn’t have a dark or complicated past. Similarly, Cedric wasn’t haunted by trauma or chasing redemption. He was just a good person who wanted to do the right thing. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to save him.

Cedric was chosen as Hogwarts’ champion in the Triwizard Tournament, competing alongside Harry Potter. Despite the tournament’s high stakes, Cedric and Harry maintained a sense of mutual respect, even helping each other along the way. But in the final challenge, everything took a terrifying turn, and Cedric was killed by Peter Pettigrew on Voldemort’s orders. No epic battle. No final words. Just a senseless, gut-wrenching death.

The moment was made even more painful by the reaction of Cedric’s father, Amos Diggory. Even to this day, his grief-stricken screams still echo in our minds. Evidently, it was one of the most shocking deaths in the series, and fans have never really gotten over Cedric’s tragic goodbye. Also, hearing Robert acknowledge that just makes it hit even harder.

What if Cedric got a second chance? 2y6k69

Cedric’s death felt unfair because it was unfair. That’s why it’s interesting to compare Cedric to Mickey Barnes in Mickey 17. Both are thrown into extreme situations beyond their control, and both meet an untimely fate. The only difference is that Mickey gets to come back. Imagine a world where Cedric Diggory had that chance?

Would he have changed the course of the Harry Potter series? Would he have fought alongside Harry against Voldemort? Or would the trauma of dying and coming back alter his personality completely?

It’s definitely a fascinating thought experiment, and it just goes to show that, even after all these years, Cedric Diggory’s death still haunts us. And if Robert Pattinson could bring him back, you know Harry Potter fans would be first in line to see what Cedric’s second chance might look like.

Those outside of Los Angeles associate the city with its bustling entertainment industry, its high cost of living, and its beach-friendly weather all year round. While this Angeleno its we have some fantastic weather throughout much of the year, I know those who aren’t from here may have never experienced June Gloom or the Santa Ana Winds.

ittedly, our weather is often as picture-perfect as movies like La La Land suggest the majority of the year, but we do experience rain and wind from time to time. Heck, it’s even snowed before where I live in Pasadena! Unlike most of the country, we can’t expect bad weather during the winter months, but one thing we can count on is the Santa Ana Winds. These winds are hot and dry, usually blowing in during the Fall and often causing destructive wildfires. They’ve returned this week and are poised to be extra damaging, with the National Weather Service describing them as “life-threatening” gusts up to 100mph.

To take our minds off the potential power outages and destruction of property heading our way, I’ve compiled a list of movies I’ll be watching during this severe weather event. Hopefully this can inspire you to practice some healthy escapism while you pray that a tree doesn’t hurtle into your house.

1. Twisters (2024) 4b2k6t

I used to be deathly afraid of tornadoes as a child. Honestly, I am still afraid of tornadoes, but if anything can help me overcome this fear, it’s Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones looking hot while they chase storms.

2. The Day After Tomorrow (2004) 1i3b17

Speaking of severe weather in Los Angeles, I had no business watching this film as a child. What do you think gave me my fear of tornadoes? This film did also make me aware of both climate change and Jake Gyllenhaal, so I can’t be too mad.

3. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009) p5x3o

Flint really didn’t think things through when he created a machine that turns water into food. You’re telling me this genius inventor didn’t think to for rain? This movie reminds me that things can always be worse, but it also demonstrates humanity’s resilience in the face of catastrophe.

4. Sharknado (2013) 3p4255

If you really want to feel grateful for our weather, watch any Sharknado film. No matter what havoc the winds wreak today, it’s nothing compared to sharks flinging into people at top speeds.

5. The Ultimate Christmas Present (2000) 6w4z6z

The Ultimate Christmas Present is a Disney Channel Original Movie about two girls (yes, that’s Brenda Song in the trailer) using a weather machine that causes an extreme weather event across Los Angeles. Sure, there’s no snow in our forecast, but I maintain it’s both nostalgic and topical.

6. Weathering with You (2019) 6q1

Written and directed by Makoto Shinkai, the man behind Your Name, Weathering with You follows a teenage boy who meets a girl who can control the weather. The movie’s a rain-filled feast for the eyes and one of my favorites to watch during any storm.

7. The Wizard of Oz (1939) 2ht2h

The chances of the wind carrying you to the magical land of Oz are astronomically low, but it’s okay to dream. If you’re ambitious, watch this and Wicked as a double feature. If you do, make sure to sing along to “Defying Gravity!”

8. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) 731z3y

Any Harry Potter film is great when the weather is bad, but Prisoner of Azkaban is both my favorite and the gloomiest. The color grading makes everything in this film look overcast, perfect for the stormy weather we’re having. Now if only it would rain.

9. Twilight (2008) 4x4n2v

If we’re mentioning films with gloomy color grading and poor weather, I’d be remiss to forget Twilight. This is one of my favorite movies to watch when it’s looking bad outside, and I just want to escape into a world where sparkly vampires say things like, “Hold on tight, spider monkey.”

10. Twister (1996) 14631p

Before 2024’s Twisters, there was the singular 1996 film Twister. Much of the premise is the same — hot people are chasing incredibly destructive tornadoes across Oklahoma while trying not to die — and the film is considered one of the best disaster movies of all time. This is an entertaining way to face my fears as the wind whistles outside my apartment.

Some people might like to forget the whole Twilight franchise (and I’d like to have a stern chat with them), but Robert Pattinson‘s post-vampire career has been irable. While those who haven’t been living under a rock have rightfully ired the different challenges the English actor takes on, one person thought Pattinson moved on from Hollywood after inspiring the iconic Team Edward vs. Team Jacob debate.

In an interview with The New York Times, Pattinson shared that he and Suki Waterhouse, his fiance, were at the airport when an employee said, “Hey, you’re the guy from Twilight. Why’d you stop acting">starred in a Harry Potter film before he was famous.

Maybe the person at the airport decided to watch Pattinson’s post-Twilight catalog after his little gaffe and was as impressed as everyone else by what the actor had accomplished. And at least he wasn’t swarmed by hordes of teen girls while traveling, which was a common scenario back in the day.

Listen, we love pop culture and all the fandoms it has to offer just as much as the next person. There’s nothing quite like finding a community at the behest of your favorite fictional characters, worlds, ships, magic systems, and continuities.

But thanks to the unescapable cosmic grasp of duality, there are dark sides to fandoms as well. Engraining one’s favorite stories as part of one’s personality is a one-way ticket to getting offended at even the most sensible criticisms; offense that can even snowball into violence depending on the depth of devotion. There are plenty of examples out there, but none take the cake quite like the Twilightloving (hating?) pup of TikTok‘s @charismafowlie.

@charismafowlie

Replying to @steverogers The original sound since it’s been requested a few times 😅😂

It’s a tale as old as time: the most feral member of Team Edward is made to watch one of the later Twilight films, and their unbridled fury towards the mere acknowledgment of Jacob’s existence prompts them toward total destruction. In this pooch’s case, he sat and watched this Twilight film, waiting for the exact moment Jacob finished his wolf transformation before delivering a swift, destructive haymaker to the corner of the screen. The job is done; Jacob can no longer be viewed.

It’s a stupendously curious act of defiance from the pup. You’d think a canine like himself would declare his loyalty to the hot guy who happens to be a werewolf. But no, this dog is so alternative and so countercultural, in fact, that he’ll proudly wear the Team Edward hat to make doubly sure that those expectations are subverted. He probably ignores squirrels, too.

But let’s put aside the diva energy of this Twilight devotee for a second. Can we talk about how fragile a television needs to be to collapse from a dog’s love tap? The televisions of yore could shield you from an atomic bomb, so what happened?

Well, television vulnerability can, among other things, be traced back to the fact that the more complicated something is, the more complications it can play host to. Popular Science notes that as televisions become wider, thinner, and put increased emphasis on LED screens whose pictures can be manipulated via settings, they’ve come to require more nuts and bolts than older CRT televisions, which means there’s more opportunity for error as the television strives to give you the picture you’re looking for.

One of these components is a single, enormous piece of thin glass not meant to be touched, let alone jabbed at with a paw full of sharp nails. And that’s just one of the many lessons Charisma learned that day, including but not limited to: Don’t put your television within punching distance of your Edward fanboy of a pooch; don’t activate that same pooch’s protective instincts by letting a wolf appear near you; and don’t you dare give Jacob a single moment of your attention when you could be watching a playlist of Bedward edits while sharing your snacks with your furbaby. these things, lest you get outed as a poser with a broken television.

The best TikTok trend might just be upon us right now — and that’s saying a lot, given the endless stream of trends that pop up on the platform almost daily. But there’s something about this one, centered around tech “mistakes,” that makes it the perfect breeding ground for some creative celebrity content.

The trend we’re talking about is none other than the “Flip Camera Trend.” It essentially involves someone — or something — recording a video, only to flip the camera to selfie mode and reveal who (or what) was actually behind the lens. We’ve seen it all in this trend: cats, dogs, and even the Boogeyman behind the camera. It’s a funny and completely harmless trend, which makes it ideal for making all kinds of jokes. Take these for example:

Like most trends, sooner or later, celebrities were bound to hop on the hype train — and for once, this is a genuinely funny trend that many of them can in on without it feeling too cheesy or overdone. So far, we’ve seen stars like Adele put their own spin on it, even sharing a fan-edited video as part of the trend. The video’s caption reads, “Y’all need to let Adele take a break. She don’t wanna make music,” with the camera flipping to show an old Adele livestream, as if the singer herself was filming. It’s hilarious, and it’s clear Adele agrees.

This trend has blown up, with seemingly every celebrity on TikTok ing the fun. Joe Jonas put his own spin on the flip camera trend, captioning his video, “Guys, we need to start recognizing that our younger siblings are basically always right,” flipping the camera to reveal himself instead of his older brother, Kevin Jonas. Ed Sheeran also chimed in with a distinctly Irish twist, captioning his video, “TikTok listen up let’s go easy on Ed Sheeran he’s an alright bloke.”

While many stars have shared their takes, few were as funny as Taylor Lautner’s. The former Twilight star leaned into his roots as Jacob Black, referencing his iconic role from the popular film series.Honestly, screw Edward. Bella should have ended up with Jacob,” the caption read, before the camera flipped to reveal Lautner himself as the person filming. One comment summed it up perfectly: “Everybody go home, he won this trend.”

The comment section on Taylor Lautner’s video was pure gold, with fans flooding it with praise for his creativity. “In the clurb we all Team Jacob,” one fan wrote, using even more Tiktok slang to make matters funnier. Many others itted they loved the video before even realizing it was posted by Lautner himself — assuming, like Adele’s video, that it was fanmade. “Not me liking the video before realizing who posted,” one confessed. Others couldn’t resist reigniting the eternal Twilight debate between Team Edward and Team Jacob. “Would repost, but I could never be a Jacob girlie,” one person wrote, prompting Lautner to reply, “Wowwwwww.”

Things got even funnier when Kristen Stewart, who famously played Bella in the saga, shared Lautner’s video on her Instagram with a cheeky reply: “Hey, be nice. She loves you!” — a playful nod to the way Jacob was hopelessly friendzoned throughout the series. Ouch but also, props to her for sharing the video in the first place.

As for Robert Pattinson, who played Edward, he doesn’t have any public social media s, so there’s been no online interaction from him about the trend. However, if the three of them happen to share a group chat, we can only imagine it’s absolutely on fire right now.

"I didn't feel an urge to go on.”]]>
<![CDATA[

By now, you’ve probably heard of Stephen King’s thoughts on everything from Donald Trump (a favorite talking point of his) to billionaire Elon Musk and even Russian president Vladimir Putin

What you might’ve missed, however, was the prolific author’s opinions on young adult novels, specifically ones about glitter-faced heartthrobs and a dystopian future where children fight to the death. That’s right, King’s comments about Twilight and The Hunger Games have resurfaced, and it’s clear he shares as much disdain for the wildly popular book series’ as he does for the former president

The Carrie author made the comments during a 2013 interview with The Guardian, around the time that both books had already received movie adaptations, and at the height of our collective Team Edward or Team Peeta fascination (I’ll personally never forgive Gale). Speaking on whether the Twilight book could be considered horror — the genre he is most prolific in — King said the books are “really not about vampires and werewolves.”

“They’re about how the love of a girl can turn a bad boy good.” Of course, one could argue that Stephenie Meyer, who authored all novels in the Twilight series, never set out to create a horror franchise, though anyone who has seen Kristen Stewart’s acting might beg to differ. Referring to Meyer, King said he “read Twilight and didn’t feel any urge to go on with her,” a criticism which he also extended to Suzanne Collins’ dystopian trilogy.

“I read The Hunger Games and didn’t feel an urge to go on,” King said, before comparing the book series to his own 1982 novel, The Running Man. That book was first published under King’s former pseudonym Richard Bachman, and is set in a dystopian future in which the participants of a reality show must evade a team of hitmen.

“[The Hunger Games] is not unlike The Running Man,” King said, “which is about a game where people are actually killed and people are watching: a satire on reality TV.” While King’s seeming aversion to two horror-adjacent young adult novels might be somewhat surprising, his thoughts on Fifty Shades of Grey might be a little more predictable.

That book series — written by E. L. James and based around a fan-fic inspired by Twilight — was seemingly inescapable around the time of King’s interview, and the author said he “felt no urge to go on” after finishing the first installment. “They call it mommy porn, but it’s not really mommy porn,” King said, adding that the Fifty Shades series “is highly charged, sexually driven fiction for women who are, say, between 18 and 25.”

King summarized his thoughts by adding that he “wouldn’t say” we were in the golden age of horror, since he couldn’t “think of any books right now that would be comparable to The Exorcist.” Anyone whose read Fifty Shades of Grey might believe it to be just as squeamish as demonically possessed girl, but with so many iconic novels (and film adaptations) to his name, we’ll just have to take King’s word for it.

Stephenie Meyer fans are positively dying of thirst for a reunion between Bella and Edward.]]>
<![CDATA[

It’s been more than a decade since the release of the last Twilight Saga movie, and while many of the so-called “Twihards” have moved on to other stories, there are still a great many hopeful for a reunion special between Bella and the rest of the gang.

Stephenie Meyer doesn’t seem particularly inclined to revisit the franchise, and after 2020’s Midnight Sun, which told the story from Edward Cullen’s perspective, the Twilight Saga has officially gone on hold. Over on the side of live-action, the fandom has, across the years, put two and two together and realized that the main actors, and that would be Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, didn’t care for the franchise, nor their time making the movies.

Besides, given that the on-screen duo dated for a few years while making the films and then split, I think it’s safe to assume that a reunion is not happening anytime soon.

Which begs the question: What is this new Twilight Saga 6: The New Chapter teaser that everyone is gushing about on social media? Well, perhaps it’s best to check out the trailer for yourself first.

Alas, as you can clearly see for yourself, this is a fan-made teaser mashing together different scenes from the movie series and using AI to give it a new look in certain frames. But I won’t blame you if you actually fell for it. The rise of AI tools is making it harder and harder to tell the difference between these fan edits and the real thing. Where it would’ve taken us only a few seconds to notice an obvious compilation video, we now have to check the shots again and again to debunk something like this, if we manage it at all.

In fact, going by the comments under this video, a lot of fans did fall for it and are now raising the cry for another Twilight sequel. “This isn’t ‘art,’ this is mean,” wrote one . “There are thousands and thousands of us who want this and they won’t give it to us.”

Others weren’t far behind in sharing the same sentiments. Now that it has been 12 years since the last Twilight movie, is it perhaps time to revisit the franchise? What with remakes of favorite franchises (like the new Harry Potter television series on Max) being all the rage recently, it was only a matter of time before Twilight received the same treatment. Though unfortunately, details have been so sparse about this new project that many have naturally forgotten it’s still in the pipeline.

Though it has only been a decade since the greatest franchise of our time has ended, it’s time to bring it back. Like Max’s reboot of the Harry Potter franchise, Twilight is also on deck for a new adaptation.

The first film of the Twilight movies premiered in the year of our lord, 2008, with Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in the iconic roles of Bella Swan and Edward Cullen. After moving to the rainy Pacific Northwest town of Forks, Washington, our young heroine becomes enamored with the pale and strange Edward. One thing leads to another and of course, he turns out to be a vampire. Not the normal kind, though. This sort doesn’t have fangs or human flesh. Their skin is like marble and they subscribe to a diet of animal blood. Let the romance begin!

The five films in the franchise adhered to the odd choices of the books for the most part, from vampire baseball, to imprinting on a baby (don’t get us started.) However, the source material has stuck with fans. It was only a matter of time before it got a new adaptation. Variety has announced that Lionsgate is considering an animated series, and we are dying to know the details.

What is the release window? 4n5x5k

Studio executives will always have their eyes on the next cash cow, and Twilight never stopped being successful. The recent renaissance is proof of that, which has led to talk of a new series. During a Q&A at the Morgan Stanley conference, Lionsgate vice chairman, Michael Burns, expressed a tentative plan for the vampire franchise.

“We’re going to go out with the ‘Twilight’ series, an animated series, I think there’ll be a lot of interest in that.”

As it is in its beginning stages, there is no official release date yet. But true to Burns’ estimation, fans are surely going to be interested in anything Twilight-related if and when it gets released. This update also causes a lot of speculation on what the plot will be. Is this the official adaptation that will introduce a new generation of fans to the wild world of Meyer’s Mormon-coded vampires?

What is the plot? 1p1551

There is no confirmation of the plot of this new series. However, there is a lot of source material that a show could pull from. Perhaps the eternal love story of Edward and Bella is strong enough to land in an animated medium. But it would be even more interesting to see other stories developed. Meyer wrote a novella after the events of Eclipse, entitled The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner. It follows the titular character who was a newborn in the army of the adversarial vampire, Victoria (Bryce Dallas Howard). Despite being ultimately guiltless, the Volturi still decide to punish Bree.

But even more fascinating is the gender-bent book Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined, which was supposed to prove there was no misogyny in the original text. (Spoilers, it failed.) And then there is always the book from Edward’s perspective, Midnight Sun. Since Edward’s story is mostly cerebral, this would look a lot like the original Twilight in a television medium. There are many options for putting a twist on a fan-favorite story, but we will still have to wait a little longer for more details.

It may have never been showered with critical acclaim – and the level of fervor it inspired among its most ardent devotees went right over the heads of many – but it can’t be denied that The Twilight Saga did hire several stellar directors to steer the literary-turned-cinematic phenomenon to over $3.3 billion at the box office.

Catherine Hardwicke broke out in a big way with her acclaimed feature debut Thirteen before landing the opening chapter just five years later, while Chris Weitz had an Academy Award nomination under his belt for penning About a Body, with David Slade regarded as one of horror’s brightest new talents, before Oscar-winner Bill Condon brought the series over the finish line through the two-part Breaking Dawn.

Renesmee learns about the Volturi in Twilight

However, another recipient of the most prestigious prize in Hollywood could have been the one to close out The Twilight Saga, with three-time nominee and one-time victor Sofia Coppola revealing to Entertainment Weekly that she held talks about it. Wisely, though, the prospect of that harrowing CGI baby and the questionable lore of imprinting put her off the idea.

“We had one meeting, and it never went anywhere. I thought the whole imprinting-werewolf thing was weird. The baby. Too weird! But part of the earlier Twilight could be done in an interesting way. I thought it’d be fun to do a teen-vampire romance, but the last one gets really far out.”

The decision to plunge young Renesmee straight into the uncanny valley from the moment of her birth is capable of causing nightmares and inducing ridicule in equal measure, although it would have been undeniably fascinating to see what a talent such as Coppola could have brought to the grand finale of a blockbuster behemoth.

For a rainy day, whether you want to cozy up or soak in gloom. ]]>
<![CDATA[

Choosing the perfect film to watch amongst a sea of movies can be quite tricky to do. Add in a specific desire for a certain atmosphere, setting, or weather event, and it’s no surprise that many viewers will feel lost. Where do you even find movies that fit a very specific vibe? If it’s an atmospheric rainy day vibe, you’ve come to the right place!

A lot of the films we’ve recommended will also fulfill the desire for Fall movies, but we didn’t want to, um, fall too far down that hole. So rest assured that I thought long and hard about the best rainy day movies, including a variety of genres, release dates, and even some variations on country of origin. You can’t go wrong by watching at least one of the selections we have below.

The Twilight Saga 1x4z

Image via Lionsgate

Whether or not you are a fan of the content in 2008’s Twilight and its following entries, no one can deny that the movies are insanely atmospheric. They scratch an itch for our idealized image of the foggy, cool, and rainy Pacific Northwest. If you are in need of rain, muted lighting, and a chilled atmosphere, you can’t go wrong with the Twilight Saga. I especially recommend Twilight and Twilight: New Moon for this vibe. It doesn’t hurt that they also have amazing soundtracks.

The Wailing 6g3r1d

Image via Fox International Productions

One of the more serious entries on our list, The Wailing is a triumph of the horror genre that thrives off of its rainy setting. Set in the small South Korean village of Gokseong, The Wailing follows an investigator trying to get to the bottom of a confusing and fatal affliction consuming the local community. A bleak movie in a rustic setting, it makes for a perfect film to complement your thunderstorm binging.

Me Before You i6y3f

Image via Warner Bros.

While a romance movie may not initially come to mind when you want to soak yourself in some cloudy energy, Me Before You does hit a sweet spot that can’t be ignored. Rain isn’t present in the entirety of the film, but it is seen at multiple key points that help to establish the tone. Whether it’s a constant, dreary trickle in the English countryside or a torrential downpour at a tropical resort, rain is definitely used effectively in the bittersweet romance of Me Before You.

Significant Other 6c4e18

Image via Paramount Plus

We don’t want to tell you too much about the sci-fi horror movie Significant Other, because it’s a film that benefits from going in blind. The rain itself is technically pretty rare in the film, but Significant Other manages to evoke the vibes you’re looking for even in scenes without a drop of water. A couple backpacking through the Pacific Northwest encounter something strange that will change them forever. The twist for this movie is massive and will catch you off-guard, but it doesn’t detract from the cozy, overcast mood.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show 2294m

Image via 20th Century Studios

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is more commonly associated with Halloween, but this technically shouldn’t be the case. It actually takes place in November, only further proving that this horror-comedy musical deserves a more broad place on movie recommendation lists. We find that the vintage vibes, abundant rain, and moody castle makes this a perfect addition for your rainy day viewing. It doesn’t hurt that this cult-classic also features tons of memorable songs and one-liners.

Arrival 2k1p6n

Image via Paramount Pictures

Another entry in our list that technically doesn’t have a lot of rain, Arrival has still earned its place. As evidenced by many other films, a scene of it raining isn’t enough on its own to properly capture a rainy mood. From the dark green landscape, to the dim and cool lighting throughout, the sci-fi film Arrival finds inventive ways to evoke the feeling of overcast skies. Most importantly, the meetings with the aliens in a foggy white expanse is the pinnacle of liminal spaces.

Sleepy Hollow 1n6f4t

Image via Paramount Pictures

Can you really embark on a cool and rainy themed movie marathon without including a Tim Burton title in the mix? Of course you can, but we really recommend checking out the 1999 Burton movie, Sleepy Hollow. A young Christina Ricci steals the show, with her ethereal face as the focus of many moody shots throughout. This adaptation of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow really strikes a chord with rain and overcast weather enthusiasts, inviting you to feel the atmosphere through the screen.

The Ritual i3z16

Image via Netflix

There are few things more painful than grief, and the environment of the horror film The Ritual only amplifies this sentiment. Following a group of adult friends traversing the Northern Swedish wilderness after a horrible tragedy, The Ritual is punctuated by its dour lighting and intermittent rain. From the first few minutes of the movie, you are reassured that this won’t be a sleepy little film. The graphic horror doesn’t detract from the overcast vibe, though.

Road to Perdition 3g4h3c

Image via 20th Century Studios

If you want a movie where the quantity of rain is very important, you can’t go wrong with Road to Perdition. While the film won tons of awards shortly after its 2002 release, it has been a bit lost to time and become sort of a hidden gem. Featuring Tom Hanks, Jude Law, Paul Newman, Stanley Tucci, and more very talented actors, the cast is definitely star-studded. Road to Perdition is a very moody and noir- inspired crime drama with an impeccable atmosphere.

Blade Runner 4y6n3l

Image via Warner Bros

While rainy-day movies often feature low-tech settings like the woods, cozy cabins, and derelict manors, the 1982 film Blade Runner goes to show that atmosphere is the most important quality of a rainy film. Set in a dystopian and futuristic version of 2019 Los Angeles, there is weirdly an alarming amount of rain for the Californian setting. We don’t mind though, as it only adds to haunting tone of the slow burn sci-fi.

From 'Hannibal' to appearing in a Rhianna music video, actors like Mads Mikkelsen are just built different.]]>
<![CDATA[

Actors of Laurence Olivier and Marlon Brando’s caliber are always considered classic; they were theatrically-trained professionals who took everything seriously, and produced some of the best performances that we can think of. But there can be a double-edged sword to this kind of performer — Brando was such an industry professional that he took himself over-seriously in his later years, and created a lot of behind-the-scenes drama. He may have crafted some of cinema’s ultimate roles as Stanley Kowalski and Don Corleone, but his ego seemed to overshadow his work.

Modern actors, as a whole, appear to be less neurotic and have more of a sense of humor. Or, at the very least, they seem to think that being a Hollywood actor isn’t a reason to think too highly of themselves. Contemporary thespians aspire to rack up a wide variety of credits, and have chosen the career for the joy of it. Of course, not all celebrities are created equal, but the famous actors who’ve truly earned a place in fans’ hearts tend to be the most relatable. Some fans on Reddit found that whether they are in big blockbusters or not, some actors are just a delight in interviews because of how down-to-earth they are.

Hannibal’s own Mads Mikkelsen has starred in some truly exemplary movies and TV shows, and was at the top of the list. But in addition to the iconic villains he’s portrayed in franchise films, Mikkelsen has also given some iconic interviews.

After doing an interview with GQ about his iconic roles, the actor showed his playful side, sharing anecdotes from the set of Casino Royale. And the one actor that was (ironically) terrible at poker?

“Daniel [Craig],” Mikkelsen shared. “He had no clue. He sucked.”

And after appearing as the titular character in Rihanna’s music video “B**** Better Have My Money,” the actor humbly acknowledged in a Vulture interview that he was just happy to be part of the production.

And then, of course, there is the image of him during press for Rogue One that tells 1,000 words.

Redditors were also quick to name another unpretentious star with a wide range of roles — one Cillian Murphy. The Irish actor’s first big role was as a survivor of a zombie apocalypse in a cult favorite flick that hit the nail on the head of zombie films before they became all the rage: Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later.

The film was small, but paved the way for his relationship with Christopher Nolan. The director cast Murphy as Dr. Crane in his Batman franchise, and continued to work with him for the next two decades until he finally landed a leading role for the director in Oppenheimer. But even more impressive than Murphy’s body of work is how much he leans away from the limelight. Murphy has all the worth ethic of a classic Hollywood actor, but apparently none of the ego.

by from discussion
inpopculturechat

Even when a part of big productions, Murphy shies away from questions about himself, and is dismissive of much of the celebrity culture of being an actor. In an exclusive interview with People, Emily Blunt revealed she teased Murphy about his trademark eyes.

“It’s like that ‘Ocean Eyes’ song by Billie Eilish. We just hum it all day,” she said. However, Murphy was quick to disagree.

“They’re not even that blue!” Murphy responded. As a truly unpretentious actor, he doesn’t put down other people’s works, and was even an advocate for the Barbenheimer trend catching the internet like wildfire. When Variety asked if he would consider playing a Ken if a sequel came about, his answer was simple.

“Sure, yeah. Let’s read the script, let’s have a conversation,” Murphy responded about playing Ken. “I can’t wait to see [Barbie]. I can’t wait to see the movie. I think it’s great for cinema to get all these great movies happening this summer.”

Some franchise actors are a little more eccentric 593t5w

Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse
Image via Summit Entertainment

Mikkelsen and Murphy have been in the industry for a long time, and know how to play the press game. But some of their younger cohorts have a different method of addressing celebrity culture. Robert Pattinson was a familiar face in the indie scene before he landed Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter. And the rest, as they say, is history. When the actor landed the role of an intense vampire, Edward Cullen, he could not be bothered with acting how the production may have wanted him to. By his ission, Pattinson can’t help himself going off the book when the center of attention, as he told Willem Dafoe in a conversation for Interview.

“I definitely do get a certain high from it. There’s a little gremlin inside of me that thinks, ‘Just say something shocking. You’re only here for a few minutes, say something terrible.’ There’s a kind of perverse glee I get from that. But I’ve given my publicist a number of heart attacks.”

Because of that, Pattinson is the gift that keeps on giving as he gives some interview moments beyond reproach. Even when promoting Twilight, he couldn’t help but give his honest opinion.

“I was convinced that Stephenie [Meyer] was convinced she was Bella and it was like a book that wasn’t supposed to be published, and you’re like reading her sort of sexual fantasy. And especially when she said it was based on a dream and it’s like ‘I had this dream about this sexy guy,’ and she goes and just writes this book about it,” Pattinson told E!, going on to conclude: “This woman is mad.”

And then there is the notorious GQ interview where the actor blew up his microwave. There is no predicting what Pattinson will say next, making him one of the most unique household names. The last person to consider himself a heartthrob, the actor seems to have the most fun.

Though not quite in the same league of having no filter, Pattinson’s Harry Potter co-star Daniel Radcliffe deserves to be in the same category. The child actor who played the titular character of J.K. Rowling’s children’s series took the opportunity to move on from the franchise. Radcliffe would go on to serious fare like the neo-Nazi film Imperium, but also plays Weird Al Yankovic in the fictionalized biopic. Throw in his characters from Guns Akimbo and The Lost City, and you have an actor who does not care what people think. Branching out appealed to Radcliffe, who had interests outside of playing The Boy Who Lived.

“I had this awareness that people expected we would do nothing after Potter — that we would fade away,” Radcliffe told GQ. “I really wanted that not to be the case, because I knew that I loved it, and I wanted to do whatever I have to do to have a career with longevity.”

Experienced actors stopped caring what people think 17gp

Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Image via Marvel Studios.

There are those actors who have been around the block so many times that doing press and acting is just another day at the office. As opposed to self-serious performers who only ever want to be in Oscar-nominated films, other industry professionals work for the love of acting. Samuel L. Jackson is one of the most beloved actors who is also exceptionally straightforward. He knows his worth, but he also just enjoys what he does. Jackson recalled in an interview with Vulture that he jumped at the chance to be in Snakes on a Plane because he knew what a good time it would be.

“When I got there, they were trying to change the name of it to something like Pacific Flight 121, ‘Cause we don’t want to give it away.’ I was like, ‘That’s exactly what you want to do! Hell is wrong with you? I signed up for Snakes on a Plane and I guarantee you that audiences will be way more excited about Snakes on a Plane than Pacific Flight 121.”

As per usual, he was right, and the film contains one of his most quotable lines of all time. And in the same vein, Jackson also knows what a talented actor he is. After getting his honorary Oscar after being snubbed so many times in the past for the award, Jackson had no problems with acknowledging that he deserved it.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan falls into the category of rejecting Hollywood ideals as well. He and his wife, Hilarie Burton Morgan, live on a farm in upstate New York with their children, even as the actor jokingly tells one of them: “Go away son, I hate you,” in his remote Hot Ones interview. Morgan has come a long way since bursting onto the scene. An actor who had died in roles just as much as Sean Bean, he was a name to look out for after appearing as Izzie’s dead fiance in Grey’s Anatomy. His role gained him the part of The Comedian in Zack Snyder’s The Watchmen, and his career took off from there. Morgan is never one to mince words, and makes no apologies for who he is.

And then there is one of the most kindest actors on the scene, Keanu Reeves. Starting in action picture megabits such as Speed and The Matrix, Reeves soon got a reputation for his friendly demeanor. The Independent reported all of his touching interactions with fans over the years, as well as his tireless advocacy for cancer research. Reeves is one of those actors who means what he says, and is an example of leading a selfless life.

Other actors are down to earth in a different way 3513d

In the 2010s, there had been no one bigger than Jennifer Lawrence. The youngest Oscar winner at the time, she reached heights of fame after leading The Hunger Games as unlikely rebel Katniss Everdeen. But Lawrence was also never one to bask in the limelight. Though she continues to make films, she took a decided break after concerns about overexposure. Her self-awareness is uncommon in the entertainment industry, and is even more impressive when factoring in how young she was when starting her career. Recent credits included the rated R comedy, No Hard Feelings, and the interview show, Hot Ones, where she shared her feelings on Method acting.

“I would be nervous to work with somebody who is Method,” Lawrence said. “I would have no idea how to talk to them. Do I have to be in character? That would make me nervous.” Lawrence took a page from Christian Bale’s playbook, taking only 10 seconds to get into character. The Hunger Games actor has very little concern for fame or censoring herself, like contemporary Anna Kendrick.

Like Lawrence, Kendrick wound up in the middle of a hot franchise at the start of her career. She didn’t play the lead, but is one of the shining lights of Twilight who is legitimately funny. When speaking to Vanity Fair, the actor confessed that the set wasn’t quite as magical.

“I just my Converse being completely soaked through and feeling like, you know, this is a really great group of people, and I’m sure that we would be friends in a different time, but I want to murder everyone,” Kendrick said candidly about the experience, adding as a caveat: “There was like something about it that was like, you know, like you go through like some trauma event, like people who survive like a hostage situation. You’re kind of bonded for life.” Fans respond to people they identify with, and the more outspoken actors are, the more they become embraced.
