Among the many, many things to look forward to in 2017 is the return of David Lynch’s iconic TV series Twin Peaks, premiering on Showtime. While we’ve only been receiving little bits and pieces of information and footage as the network teases their series, it’s more than enough to keep at least the diehard fans excited about returning to the weird little Northwestern town.
In the latest teaser, Lynch himself makes an appearance, reprising his role as Gordon Cole, the hard-of-hearing FBI Regional Bureau Chief. With true Lynchian weirdness, the entire teaser is just Cole eating a donut as the iconic Twin Peaks theme plays on in the background. Odd? Yes. But it serves to remind us of why we love Twin Peaks in the first place: the strange, meandering nature of the plot, the charming but off-centre characters, and, of course, the donuts, coffee and cherry pie.
[zergpaid]The new Twin Peaks series picks up 25 years after the events of the original show, when Laura Palmer was murdered in her small bucolic town and Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) arrived to investigate her death. This new series will bring back some of our old favorites – like Gordon Cole and Dale Cooper himself – for a return to Twin Peaks and, presumably, some extra strange occurrences. Much of the original cast is returning as well, along with some teased cameos from Lynch’s always dependable stable of actors.
While there have been some ups and downs with production – including, at one point, the Lynch directing all the new episodes.
The new Twin Peaks will premiere on Showtime in 2017.
